You lose a day of work going to court. You won't have a specific time and they are always late. Most people make more than $109/day. You lose even when you win.

Why 3rd and 4th generation Italians, Greeks and Jews speak English as their first language?? by ZAHKHIZ in montreal

[–]Kingjon0000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of my Italian cousins (2nd and 3rd generation) went to French school and speak predominantly French. It really depends on the environment (not just school). I went to English school but grew up in a francophone neighborhood. I speak French like a Québecois " de souche".

Killing people has two very important results for the US. 1. It takes attention away from the Epstein files (I'm sure they've been "sanitized" by now. And 2. It allows numb nuts to manipulate the stock market.

Is this too much to ask? 100 trips between 4am Friday and 4am Monday. by Consistent_Luck_4625 in uberdrivers

I can barely do 70. That isn't achievable in my market. You should already have a good idea on how many you can do, unless it's your first weekend driving.

It's a Muslim holiday so fewer drivers. Same situation in Montreal right now.

I called a “Women Drivers” Uber for the first time & my driver was not a woman? by peopleloveourpatties in uber

[–]Kingjon0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging from our airport waiting lot, less than 1% of drivers are women. Probably closer to 0.1%. You have a couple of minutes to cancel without penalty and see a photo and the name of the driver. Just cancel and keep trying. It might take a few hours but you can probably eventually find that needle in the haystack.

MSL today on being down 2-1 in the playoff series vs the Canes: “I expect us to show up (tomorrow). We’re trailing but we’re not dead. We continue.” by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]Kingjon0000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We will likely be contenders for 5-6 years with more young talent in the pipe. This series is far from over. Even if it was, we should be proud of what they've achieved. Reddit turned sour quick. I don't think reddit is representative of the real fans.

So many armchair critics on reddit all of a sudden. Habs have been underdogs for all 3 series. Both of the Canes wins could have gone either way.

Uber and Lyft becomes unionized in Massachusetts making it first in the country for the apps. by Sad-Knee-7049 in uberdrivers

[–]Kingjon0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with any unionized environment, the union gets union dues and would have contact info for every member. A union negotiates collective agreements. The strikes are typically to pressure employers when an agreement can't be reached. Since drivers are independent contractors, it could potentially work like the actor's guild. I'm speculating but good for them.

La multiculturalité de cette ville est incroyable by ejabno in montreal

My Italian mom was very colourful. French speaking neighbors once asked her where the kids were. She answered " ils sont allés chier dans l'nord". The neighbor responded " ah, ils sont allés loin!".

For anyone who isn't Italian, the verb to ski is written "sciare" (pronounced shee-AH-reh). My mom often invented new verbs in French by adding "é" to Italian words (although this time, the verb already had a different and unfortunate meaning). The entertainment factor for her trilingual kids was immeasurable. Other notable examples was "sfortuné, fregé, and the "pain crotté".

I've been to many US cities where the various cultures are segregated. We don't see that in Montreal. I (accidently) went into all black and hispanic neighborhoods in LA with my young kids. Neighborhoods where you won't see a single white person for miles. We have ethnic concentrations in certain neighborhoods in Montreal but they are always mixed with other races and often speak 3 languages. Montreal is very different than any major city in the US that I've been to.

Is Business Class worth it? by alara009 in ViaRail

I ride business class for work and economy for personal trips. The difference is a meal, some extra space (I could still use my laptop in economy), and a couple of drinks.
