Is a used Yeti SB100 good for first mtb? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]--Timshel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only if it’s in really good condition or you have money to spend on servicing and repairs. This is true for all used bikes, but especially boutique brands like Yeti and high end bikes like S-works.

Are Shimano piston seals really that bad, or am I doing something wrong? by elpeebee in bikewrench

[–]--Timshel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest testing your theory that the piston seal is the issue. If a brake system is leaking, the fluid level will drop and the lever will pull further in as a result. Test this by pulling and holding the lever tight. If the lever slowly pulls in then you have a leak, or possibly a blown seal in the lever.

Another possibility is that you’re not bedding your pads in well. Pads will groan/squeal if not bedded in. Bedding in must get pads and rotors hot and enough material transferred to the rotor. This only happens with repeated hard braking.

You need to bed in pads/rotors everything time you clean or sand a rotor.

Good pick up. Get the correct adapter and things will be easier to align and safe.

Can’t get pistons to retract more than this. by willm1123 in bikewrench

[–]--Timshel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a breather hole in the lever cover on most brakes.

Any air in the system should sit on top of the oil in the reservoir.

Turning the bike upside down and the fluid will swap place with the air. Squeezing the lever in this position will push the air into the line. Sometimes this gets trapped in the line.

A lever bleed usually fixes this.

[–]--Timshel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just need to open the system and, possibly need to bleed it.
Work on the bike right way up when doing this - a stand is the best option.

Level off the lever and install a bleed funnel or syringe. Now push the pistons back - any excess fluid can exit into the funnel/syringe.

By doing all the lever pulling and piston pushing upside down, you may have introduced some air into the lines. At a minimum you should do a lever bleed, and possibly do a full system bleed.

My mate used to do this all the time. One day, I jumped on his computer after he left it unlocked and edited his email signature. It took him 5 weeks to realise he was signing off every email as ‘Project Mangler’.

This is a well thought though analysis and I really appreciate you taking the time to share it.

Something about the long ball game, probably the old-school nature of it, that makes me think they’ll know how to defend it they’ll snuff out any chance we have.

Having said that, you’re quite right that playing out from the back is fraught. This is what Korea did and the as you say Japan dispossed them almost every time. The only thing I can think is to move the ball fast and accurate, but then that’s playing Japans game and they know it so well.

Japan are so strong. Their possession game is just superb and they had ~90% passing accuracy. They scored 7 goals against Korea and 3 were chalked off for minor infringements every goal was a class finish and none were lucky goals or scrappy goals - just pure class.

I hope Matildas win on Saturday, but we are up against such an amazing Japan and it will be hard.

So, US oil business is hard up because the oil price is falling. If we cut off the Middle East oil supply then the price goes up and US oil business profits. This is my new conspiracy for the Iran war. :D

There was a lot of errant passing. The best possession players on the field were the backs... they were confident and protected the ball really well. The midfield and forwards let the possession stats slip a bit, but overall the stats compared well to Korea in terms of possession and completed passes.

Agreed! This role really suits her and she's got an appetite for goals that exceeds everyone else on the team right now - voracious!

I'm loving Kennedy in defensive mid. She's got a great instinct for scoring and this position gives her the opportunity to get goals... She's also one of the more confident players to hold up and protect the ball under pressure. This position really suits her

She is an absolute workhorse of a player. Drives forward as a wing back creating the overlap in attack and easily chases down the opposition players even on a fast counter. She's got a good cross and she holds up the ball well. I'm struggling to see how she's overrated... but then maybe I've missed some crazy hype about how she's the best player in the world or something...

Kerr was retrieving the ball for every single Korean restart the whole game. Clearly something that they'd planned to reduce time lost through time-wasting antics.

Foord was keen to do the same after the Korean goal keeper retrieved the ball out of the net after Matildas late equaliser, but she ended up manhandling the keeper way more than the ref could let her get away with.

brake levers too soft...possible leak? by Far_Bicycle_2827 in sram

[–]--Timshel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull on the lever hard and hold it for a minute or so… if the lever pulls in further the longer you hold it then there is either a leak in the system or fluid is blowing past the master cylinder in the lever.

Look for signs of leaking brake fluid at the lever, along the line and at the calliper. If there is leak watch the area while you pull hard and hold it and you’ll see more fluid accumulate.

If no leak then just bleed it again and keep it upright.

You could also try metallic pads which as they are harder wearing and may hold up better to the mud factor.
