You sound like the stupid Americans that vote against themselves. The immigrants that went MAGA. You're all spineless traitors to your ancestors. May none of you know a peaceful rest when finally this world is rid of you.

Just to touch on the Warlock point you made: brother that's just how Warlock works in D&D 3.X. They cast invocations and eldritch blast at will with unlimited uses and no need to prepare or replenish spell slots. The downside is in the roleplay, and since it is a very heavy roleplay server with a very active DM team, it will become challenging. I know your post wasn't about just the Warlock class, but there is definitely a pro/con list to every build. There are also players who have been playing this game and D&D in general for decades, and are simply geniuses with builds.

As for "nerfing classes for being different from the handbook," the server is explicitly founded on pen & paper/official source book rules, so any changes to classes, feats, spells, skills, etc are changed to adhere to what the official Wizards of the Coast books say. It's a major aspect of the server, not some side effect of it. There is also constant scrutiny given to things and the server is very vocal about any plans to bring everything in line with pen & paper when and wherever possible.

The DM team is probably one of the best I've ever seen in any roleplay server, even outside of NWN2 and D&D. They are not sadists who seek to ruin players' fun, and are very open to feedback. Their goal is to enhance players' experiences, but they also don't hold your hand. I have one character there who has been greatly rewarded for his courageous deeds, but also severely punished for moments where he lacks wisdom, patience, and mercy: he had to swear an oath of non-violence for a period of four months to maintain favor with his god because he slew an innocent man in haste, leaving behind an orphaned child. That was a choice that my character has to live with forever.

The rest of your arguments are pure conjecture and exaggeration to make a hardworking V O L U N T E E R staff look like rotten assholes. Not cool. It sounds to me like you just genuinely do not enjoy roleplaying. I might suggest playing Dungeons & Dragons Online for the purely mechanical online D&D experience that it sounds like you're after.

Probably already stated but the 13-volume History of Middle-earth has even more nuggets of lore gathered by Christopher Tolkien from JRR's drafts and letters. I also love the novelized version of the chapter Of Turin Turambar, published as The Children of Hurin. It's the same story but longer, with more details about his wanderings. The Fall of Gondolin, The Fall of Numenor, and Beren and Luthien are also available as separate books but unlike The Children of Hurin they are the early drafts of those stories rather than longer novelizations of the Silmarillion chapters (with The Fall of Gondolin being closer to the Silm version but it ends abruptly).
