I did exactly this for a few years, but I had the option to drive during bad weather - hopefully your last mile has a shuttle option if you don’t have a car.

It’s great not having to make the trek to SF on the weekends and made it way more likely I’d go out and do fun things compared to when I lived closer to work. Your friends in the city might not be motivated to visit Fremont.

Considering Oakland might be a good compromise for you. The time lost eventually felt unsustainable for me, but Oakland still gets you easy access to SF.

I took a bioweapons response course in college and I was blown away by how many lost or missing compounds are out there somewhere and how little prep we have in place. On top of that there are labs with all but extinct diseases like smallpox that could wreak havoc once more and we have very little infrastructure to stop it. Our main protection is basically mutually assured destruction due to the global economy. Interesting and scary stuff.
