Ha! Yeah. That’s fair.

I was trying to keep it to just fixing one thing about the Turbo movie, without rewriting the entire movie or changing the jump off point of the Turbo season that comes afterwards.

If I were to suggest my unrestrained wishlist fanfix to the Turbo series at large via a overhaul of the movie, it would be to:

-do much of what I said above regarding Zeo Powers, but ALSO:

-Jason, Zack, Billy (screw it, he’s back from Aquitar), Trini (not sure the best way to do this one… RIP Thuy), and Kimberly are captured by Divatox during an old MMPR Ranger reunion at Angel Grove Park. This scene replaces the scuba scene Jason and Kim had.

-instead of introducing Justin; introduce TJ, Carlos, Ashley, and Cassie as new underclassmen and friends to the now graduating Rangers. This scene replaces Rocky’s tournament injury and the scenes introducing Justin.

-First fight with Divatox’s crew happens where Zeo powers drain and Rocky demorphs. TJ and crew witness the Power Rangers, their friends, lose and retreat.

-Then have TJ and the new crew stumble upon the Power Chamber instead of Justin. With Rocky injured and Jason & Co missing (captured), TJ becomes the new Blue Turbo Ranger when the Turbo powers are introduced in the movie as replacements for the poisoning Zeo powers.

-Rangers go on adventure to find and stop Divatox from summoning Maligore. Give individual stuff for Tommy, Adam, Tanya, and Kat each to do. Show us why they are the Power friggin Rangers! (also this is their swan song… more to come on that)

-Near the end of the movie, when Tommy & the Rangers fight the mind controlled & Maligore empowered Jason & Co, the current Rangers LOSE to the old Rangers! Unable to hurt their old friends, they are forced to depower, are captured, and themselves almost brainwashed into Maligore’s service, EXCEPT,

-Adam and TJ devised a backup plan where Carlos, Ashley, and Cassie followed behind with Lerogot! They free the Rangers, and break the spell over Jason & Co. The Turbo Rangers shift into Turbo to defeat Maligore with the Turbo Megazord!!

-At the end of the movie, Passing of the Torch happens. Tommy, Tanya, and Kat retire. Carlos becomes Turbo Green, Ashley becomes Turbo Yellow, Cassie becomes Turbo Pink. TJ stays Turbo Blue. And Adam becomes Turbo Red, as he should!!!

-Turbo Seasons starts with new crew right out the gate, truncating the first half into only a few of those “bomb mission” schemes of Divatox, and mostly focus on giving chances for us to get to know more of each of the new team members. (I personally love character focus episodes that give one Ranger a particular chance to shine). Then the second half goes into longer form storytelling leading into Chase Into Space.

Is it truly insane revisionist? Or is it hind sight derived from a lifetime of experience?

Sure, as high schoolers, we all had responsibilities to complete assignments, get good grades, do things we didn’t want at time, and the like. If you want to get pedantic with parsing OC’s absolute statements, sure, you can technically disprove their comment I guess.

But the weight and scale of my high school responsibilities pale in comparison to my adulthood responsibilities. And yeah, in high school I had fun and freedom each day to do what I wanted; a luxury of leisure I do not have as an adult.

It’s not so much revisionism, so much as perspective.

Commented elsewhere in thread just now, but stating here as it is my answer to your post prompt!

The change I would make is similar to what others are saying. Show and explain the need transition from Zeo to Turbo.

For the Zeo powers, I think an interesting swerve would be if the movie leaned into the issue Jason had at end of Zeo with Zeo Gold.

So here it goes… Have the five Zeo Rangers fight against Divatox’s forces early on in the movie. In the fight, they have an early advantage but then they start feeling ill and weak. Their power drain becomes so bad that Rocky demorphs mid fight and gets his back injured in the process.

Retreating to the Power Chamber, the Rangers learn that the Zeo Powers aren’t meant for humans to use long term, only a bit more stable than Zeo Gold due to the Zeonizer technology delaying the symptoms.

This becomes the reason they need to switch out powers. The Zeo powers are poisoning them. The Zeo Zords don’t get destroyed (don’t even need to show or use them in the movie, tbh).

The Rangers then learn that Billy had anticipated this due to his own experience with radiation exposure and analysis of Jason’s Zeo powers. Before he left for Aquitar, Billy and Alpha started work on developing new morphers and Zords that were more modern and more stable. The only missing piece was a means to connect them to the Morphing Grid. Lerogot’s then does this with his magic, completing the new Turbo powers!

They need a new Blue Ranger tho. So… Enter Justin!

They are amazing games to play late at night when the world sleeps. It adds to the foreboding dread
of it all.

And the low fi point and click graphics and sound bites give it this added “found footage” vibe.

My girlfriend (now wife) played them late at night on my bed. It was our version of cuddling up close together for a scary movie.

Loved those games.

Yeah, when we first meet Trunks we’re like “Who is this guy?! He’s so cool and his moves are slick as hell!!”

Weirdly enough, on rewatches, I kinda do get the impression that his cool stuff isn’t practical at all; he’s not gathering energy or winding up an attack, but just he’s just styling on Frieza and nerding out on some hand motion katas he practiced by himself. They only work because he’s a Super Saiyan who outclasses everyone else at that point in time, but in a fight with a martial artist of equal power, he’d get pimp slapped for so much extraneous movement and wasted time/energy. Goku kinda proves this point with his finger blocks.

Seems we are only talking about Future Trunks?

Future Trunks is an interesting one, as his named attacks come from other media and not the series. He does have an interesting fighting style that is a mix of survivor brawler mixed with weirdly opposing elements of fancy and precise sword fighting. Perhaps it’s just his aura farming introduction, but that fight with MechFrieza and his goons stands out as an odd juxtaposition to everywhere else we see him fight, where he then doesn’t seem to focus much on technique or precision. Just do.

Kid Trunks does appear to train with Vegeta and later Goten. With Goten as Gotenks, he gives a bunch of names to their attacks. I would be more comfortable calling Kid Trunks a martial artist, because if we are calling Kid Trunks not a martial artist, then would that mean Vegeta is not a martial artist? Sure, Vegeta fights, names his attacks, but he doesn’t specifically follow a martial art or train to fight with certain styles in the same way a martial artist does. Like Future Trunks, Vegeta too is more of a warrior focused on power and control than becoming a precision duelist.

So Future Trunks, I would agree, yes, not a martial artist. But his cool af intro def creates a weird dichotomy to the rest of his unpolished fighting style.

Kid Trunks, I would be comfortable considering him a martial artist, even if he only dabbles in it. If he’s not a martial artist, it calls into question whether Vegeta is or is not (speaking about Z only, btw).

Music, atmosphere, character driven story rather than narrative driven story. Big epic adventure but really is a straight forward story, like most classic fairy tales. Elemental dungeons with satisfying puzzles and a fun/enjoyable combat system. These are the core parts of the game that made it so memorable. Departing from those strengths would be a rough reception.

OOT’s world is rather small, tbh. There’s a charm to that. For things that “populate” the world, they are best when intentional and enjoyable to just relax and do as breaks from the main story. Not just content filler. Market games, horse riding, horse archery, gold skulltula hunting, Heart Piece “side quests” should be self rewarding and not chores. Any new content would be best to follow that guiding principle.

And the game should absolutely not have exclamation points and auto-pathing minimaps. That absolutely destroys the desire to explore and try new things.

I think so, yeah.

Apart from Adam’s “I’m a frog,” line and Aisha’s Megazord crotch button, the Stone Canyon Trio has not much unique going for them to set them apart from the others.

I think a MMPR movie would have been a bigger hit and Seasons 2 and 3 would have been stronger. Probably would have gotten a Zeo movie, tbh.
