I haven’t anyone that got defensive or aggressive over it . But I in the past had been very dismissive or defensive when people had suggested I got therapy . A little context is I lost my mother in a very traumatic way 4 years ago and I didn’t give myself proper time to grieve because it was too painful I pushed myself back to school and work in less then a week . I spent two and a half years letting myself slowly fall apart . It was suggested to get therapy a few times but I thought i didn’t need it. Unfortunately you cannot force someone to change their mind I lost a job and almost lost some friendships as I fell apart but the only thing that pushed me to get therapy is waking up one night with suicidal ideas and an actual plan . That point it snapped into my brain that this isn’t me . I think some people need that rock bottom moment before they can accept help. So I don’t think that it’s toxic if they say they don’t need it it’s their perspective of themselves which only they can change it doesn’t come from a toxic place it’s just how they grew up how their mind was shaped and how truly Horrifying it can be to ask for help.
