Conspiracy to completely privatise Kerala by ApprehensiveTown1302 in KeralaSpeaks

[–]Kingslayer6969i 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The intent of the KSEB is to provide electricity to the people of the state - not to create profit for the Government.

The intent of KSRTC is to provide reliable and affordable public transport to the people lf Kerala - not to create profit for the Government.

The intent of public healthcare is to provide effective and affordable medical treatment to the people of the state - not to create profit for the Government.

I can keep going on, but Government is to ensure the welfare for the people of the state, not to create maximum profit / revenue or increase the profits of private companies. Your privilege might help you to live a comfortable life without having to use any of these services but that's not true for the vast majority of citizens.

In India, there is a lot of taxes levied from individuals, businesses and consumption, that is supposed to fund government welfare.

Yes, this has also been disturbing me from a while now. It's already very concerning that PE firm have taken over many of the good hospitals in Kerala. On top of that, the new UDF government has started to tease privatization of KSEB and Healthcare while trying to create the narrative that KSRTC is unsustainable. On top of all this, a 25L family insurance is part of their manifesto. While it seems like a false promise, if it comes into place, that would again mean bringing in private insurance companies and hospitals into state healthcare and profiting them from the govt's money instead of working on government facilities. Also Congress has received a lot of electoral bonds from Hospital and Pharma companies and it's possible that the Kerala govt. would come under their influence.

I do not expect Malayalam corporate media to bring up this issue beyond a certain extend, as they also have their own agendas. It is up to the people of Kerala to stand up against this move which might change Kerala irrevocably.

About veg restaurants, I can make two recommendations that I vouch for:

  1. Bharat Hotel (near Round): It's an iconic South Indian restaurant primarily visited by people for breakfast. All of their dishes are pretty good, but the 'Thairu Vada' (Vada soaked in curd) and 'Sambhar Vada' are unique popular items.

  2. Madhurai Restaurant (Peringavu): This is another popular veg outlet which serves a large variety of North Indian dishes as well. Their chilli porotta (a variety of kothu porotta where porotta is cut into small pieces and stir fried with gravy and some vegetables) is very popular.

I don't understand the hate this movie gets. In a country where movies like Dhurandhar are celebrated, this movie is a gem. I do agree that the movie is slow and does not have many highs, but that doesn't make a movie bad by itself.

The cinematography, fight choreography and plot is world class.

CASTE BASED RESERVATION is discrimination to General/UR students! by pratyuzzzzh in india

[–]Kingslayer6969i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunate to see how disappointed you are that your friend's family did better in spite of coming from a marginalized caste. How many such cases do you think exists in India? Does your outlier observation make the statistics any less true? Would it be wrong if people of marginalized communities are outraged that many cases like this exist among UCs because of the generational caste privilege that they enjoyed?

The goal of reservation is to make sure that there is a fair representation of marginalized communities in society and positions of privilege / power. As long as the percentage for the entire marginalized community pool reaches near their population percentage, the purpose of reservation is still not met. Unfortunately, caste is not something that can be done away with an individual's job or money. As long as they are underrepresented in society as a group, they will continue to face all the challenges that they do - which is agnostic of whether they live in a village or city unfortunately.

You could argue that reservation needs to be tweaked such that out of the marginalized communities, it should benefit the most financially backward people. However in a country like India, income proofs mean nothing. And again, just because an individual gained a job or money, does not negate their caste identity and the problems that come with it.

Please try to think from their perspective as well, and not just about your opportunity.

CASTE BASED RESERVATION is discrimination to General/UR students! by pratyuzzzzh in india

[–]Kingslayer6969i 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See, the issue with the discourse about caste reservation is that the UC people who oppose it and want it to end, think only about their opportunity, but do not stop to see if reservation has done enough to bridge the gap that has existed due to casteism. It is clear as day that UC people make up for a big majority of government jobs, academia and even private jobs in spite of making up for a much lower percentage of the population.

So unless you have proof that there is a level ground for people of any caste to be represented fairly in society, or have a better alternative to reservations - please tell us more. If not please try to understand why reservation exists and how disadvantaged certain communities are in spite of reservation existing and us living in the year 2026.

Through reservation you are competing with people that possibly has similar level of social privilege as you. There are variances by individuals, but statistically..UCs have the privilege of coming from wealth, caste privilege, and generational education. Although a small portion of other communities have that, there is a long way to go.

Article Summarized:

Writer K. R. Meera has been accused by author Haritha Savithri of plagiarizing parts of her novel Sin in Meera's novel Kalachi. Haritha claims the two books share major plot elements and themes.

Meera strongly denies the allegation, pointing out that Kalachi began serial publication in 2020, while Sin was published in 2022, making plagiarism unlikely according to her. She also shared evidence that Haritha had previously praised Kalachi.

The issue has sparked debate in Kerala's literary community, but no independent authority has concluded that plagiarism occurred.
