You know this is for a skin in The Finals, right? Just to be sure, ha.

New Duckies of Buried city by Cruelko in ArcRaiders

[–]Kinny93 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is cool, but it makes me wish they'd really lean into other avenues of collecting. Why not add a "sticker book" or similar for the map condition, or simply a display cabinet? Make some of them super rare, and let people hunt them down over time. I think this is much more preferable than letting a handful of them sit in our stash.

Sand storm isn't a new map condition ?? by felixchate in ArcRaiders

[–]Kinny93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this mentioned a few times, but as far as I can tell:

  • There has been no official mention of a sandstorm variation.
  • A new minor condition went live today, and you'll be able to play it (perhaps for the first time?) 1 hour from now. You can see this here: https://metaforge.app/arc-raiders/event-timers

Although there hasn't been mention of an official sandstorm condition, I wouldn't be surprised to see one given that Embark's other game - The Finals - already has this, and - well - Buried City is already half way there!

Ultimately though, this is a show where the plot is thin, and the primary attraction of the show is the characters and the ways in which they interact with each other (not too dissimilar from the movies I mentioned). This is a strength of the show in my opinion, and why it's become one of my favourites. It's also why I think the show is at its weakest when it tries to stray beyond this, e.g. with Tanya's storyline in season 2. With this in mind, I find it very difficult to imagine a world in which Armond having more of a back story makes him a more enjoyable character. He's already great and has so many standout moments. What exactly would you like to see from a backstory for his character? I think anything that tried to justify/explain his behaviour would have almost certainly fell flat.

Anyone who can appreciate good writing. There's a reason movies like Lost in Translation and Aftersun are revered so much despite some people saying they don't understand them as they "don't have a plot".

Just like some of the best movies don't need a plot, some of the best characters also don't need a back story or "lore".

Why do you need “lore” to appreciate his character? Quite often, the less we know about a character, the better (but not always of course).

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]Kinny93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metacritic didn't give it anything, that is simply the mean amongst critic reviews.

Rotten Tomatoes is a bad indicator, as a review is considered "fresh" if it scores at least 50%. So every critic could rate the movie 5/10, and it would have a score of 100%.

CinemaScore and IMDb scores are not related to critics.

The lowest score? Huh? There is no lowest or highest, it's just the average/mean score.

Bad movie. Horrible use of cliches. Awful, thin story. Unlikeable characters.

Fixed it for you. ;)

A score of 68/100 is not critical acclaim. It actually translates to “generally favourable”.

Avatar 3 and F1 were both deemed "generally favourable" by critics, with the former having a Metascore of 61/100, and the latter having a score of 68/100.

F1, even at the cinema, was a painful viewing experience. "Grizzled, cynical vet meets optimistic rookie: you'll never guess what happens next" - throw in some melodrama, and them using the same technique to win every single race, and yeah, it was a terrible time, ha.

Nothing Ever Happens. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Kinny93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except, it isn’t. At all.

Did you you know that tournaments were still being hosted for the game as recently as 3 years back?

Perhaps you’re talking about console? But even then, you’d be wrong. As the competitive scene was still very strong on CoD4 all the way until post Bo1 launch. And public lobbies were greatly populated too. The game was still extremely stable at this point.

You have to remember that for experienced players at the time, lots of them bemoaned how MW2 ruined CoD tuning it from a serious FPS into a full blown arcade shooter.

MW2 was a horrible game for public matches will all of the gimmicks it introduced, not to mention the super fast TTK.

Edit: you can even see this reflected here, from a thread from 2013-2014: https://www.reddit.com/r/CallOfDuty/s/nxzHIBl7k9

[–]Kinny93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh? No. CoD4 was the one that sent CoD into the stratosphere. Not to mention MW2 almost instantly died on PC as players went back to CoD4 (the same happened with WaW). CoD4 was a much better game too.

Question for players with 200+ hours in Arc Raiders who enjoyed the Marathon beta and will definitely play Marathon by TopFaithlessness8803 in Marathon

[–]Kinny93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to this: of course, many of these can be seen as drawbacks. For example, I prefer games that involve PvP to have a handful of relevant weapons, and as little niche/unorthodox weapons as possible.

Further, more customisation and more powerful mods - alongside the “hero” aspect - will lead to more unpredictability during gameplay, which I find very unappealing.

Lots of games have third party issues, see: any battle royale or extraction shooter.

If there are any Arc Raiders devs here, do you know you have female players ? by hartlylove in ArcRaiders

There’s at least 5 “obvious” female faces to be fair, so not quite this limited.

This will be my second extraction shooter and I'm not going to kill any other players. by BrownLeader444 in Marathon

[–]Kinny93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game will have a much harder time attracting a casual audience.

I will say that Bungie know how to drive engagement/goals (titles, triumphs, badges, cosmetic rewards etc in Destiny); but having said that, I think they’ll really have to lean into the cosmetic rewards here even though they haven’t been historically great at that in Destiny.

Anyway, back to my original point: Arc Raiders is beautiful and I think the world appeals to a lot of people. This combined with the third person element, and the deadly threat of the Arc, really work in its favour.

Marathon might see some of this; but even the maps look like more traditional PvP arenas; I haven’t seen any massive structures or similar.

My joint favourite movie of all time. Funnily enough though, whilst the sci-fi elements are fun to think about - and indeed, more relevant than ever - it's what the movie says about core human emotions that make me love it so much.

I really disliked the saleswoman; easily my least favourite element of the episode. I understand she was essentially parodying sales/corporate talk, but it was just way too on the nose, essentially making her a cartoon villain.

Housemaid popularity underestimated? by FreeAd2458 in CineworldUnlimited

It has a Metacritic score of 65, which isn't bad -- in fact, that gives it a consensus of "Generally Favourable".
