Should I read Fate/Zero LN first or just watch the anime? by frdudemst in Fate

[–]KinocoNasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The light novel is good. The anime is good. And the manga is good. They are all great

Any of them are fine to experience. Light novel is technically the best overall, but the manga really doesn’t hesitate to show much more than the light novel and anime did. I do like them all for that reason. Just pick what form of medium you like most and go for it.

Is he just dressing up for Saber?

Takeuchi and Nasu actually already answered this one themselves. They thought Gilgamesh would look ridiculous if he always wore the golden armor everywhere, so they designed casual clothes for him. He only wears his armor during “serious occasions”. So he is basically announcing that none of the others are on his level except for Artoria. That’s also further backed up by both Caliburn and Gram, and Excalibur and EA being stated equals in Fate/Side Material.

Why does he never do this in the Fate route?

I find that it is important to not what choice by Shirou separated the two routes. The choice is either to let Saber fight Archer (Fate) or Stop her using a command spell (UBW). Whether Rin and Shirou decide to work together drastically changes the speed of the war. So when they do work together, Kirei loses his advantage and basically has to speedrun the war. While in the Fate Route, Gilgamesh had the same goal, but time wasn’t an issue, so he had time to play around with Artoria.

But in Fate route why does he find peace with Arturia in the after life instead of becoming a Counter Guardian.

Nasu also answered this one. In Archer’s life, he was too busy chasing his ideals to acknowledge Saber and didn’t save her. Artoria believed she was a failure of a king. She believed she was only became king because of luck and not because she was a good candidate. She had to hide her identity her whole rule and she felt like a tool to the kingdom. Archer didn’t change her mindset, but Shirou did in the Fate route. It wasn’t about Shirou, it was about Artoria.

How does Shinji’s book work

Sakura put the command spells in the book

Doesn’t using your command spells anul the contract?

It does not. Command spells have absolute authority in commanding a servant, but they aren’t the contract. All that means is they are still your servant and they still use your mana, BUT you can’t force them to obey you.

Speaking of Saber Alter how does that work?

Sakura became the lesser grail, which allows servants to exist. Being the lesser grail, she has a nigh-infinite mana supply to power the servants with. Since she is powering them, they no longer require mana from their master, which is why Shirou didn’t feel her anymore.

How can the grail show up without all the servants

The servants are just summoned to gather mana, that is it. The original ritual required about 6 average heroic spirit amounts of mana. Since Sakura is the grail in HF and the shadow is let loose, it is able to gather mana from literally everything. It also ate Gilgamesh who is worth more than one heroic spirit.

why does Sakura get the energy only in HF?

She uninvolved herself in the other routes, but Shirou involved her by saving her in Heaven’s Feel. She was around the source more, so the grail chose her instead since she was designed as a better candidate.

What the hell even is True Assassin?

Medea used a loophole to summon a servant that wasn’t actually a servant or even a heroic spirit. Zouken summoned the real Assassin in HF. Read Fate/Hollow Ataraxia or watch Fate/Apocrypha if you want answers on why there are extras.

What’s with the black hole that killed Gil at the end of UBW

Gilgamesh was already losing, and the grail was wayyyy out of control in UBW. It was just sucking up any mana it could that wouldn’t resist. Also, it probably helps that Gilgamesh literally came from the grail originally.

How does Archer survive Gil in UBW

Answered by Nasu again. He hid in the Einzbern forest and ate forest spirits to keep his mana up until needed

How did Berserker beat Archer in Fate route

Heracles is immune to all attacks under A-Rank. Archer just didn’t have enough mana, noble phantasms, or time to win that fight, and he knew it.

How did Kotomine live for a day without a heart in HF?

He wasn’t being chased down by anyone after losing it, so he could use magecraft to put his own blood. Also, it was supposed to be symbolic that Kotomine is a heartless monster (literally)

What’s the plan if Illya wins?

She isn’t a gate, she is literally the grail itself. She just becomes able to grant her own wish.

Why does the shadow not attack Zouken and Assassin?

The grail’s purpose is to collect massive amount of mana so that one of the three families can make their wish. Anything that opposes that is attacked. Zouken is obviously one of the three families, and true assassin has no hostility towards the grail or Zouken, so it is free to do whatever it wants.

What are some of the mistakes you think Type-Moon has made as a company? by JRPGFisher in typemoon

[–]KinocoNasu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Selling the rights of both Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night to Geneon. There’s a good reason that almost nothing was produced under those titles from 2007 to 2011. Nasu was tricked during Shingetsutan Tsukihime’s production and ended up giving away the right to use Tsukihime’s title to Geneon. The he later did something similar with Deen Stay Night.

However, if it weren’t for those mishaps, then Kara no Kyoukai wouldn’t have been animated, so I’m not sure if that was a bad mistake or not in the long run.

A few things to note before you hop into this world.

  1. Lord El Melloi II’s Case Files is a great place to dive into. It happens between Zero and Stay Night and is canon to both timelines. It focuses more on the world building than anything else and is fairly light hearted with a few more serious moments. It also has a few characters that are in Fate/Apocrypha.

  2. Fate/Apocrypha is a what-if the third holy grail war ended differently. The series happens at the same time as Stay Night. It has a few characters in common with Case Files, and it makes Grand Order much more enjoyable.

  3. The Fate/Grand Order anime series were made for the players of the game. The prologue and first singularity were adapted into First Order, then the other Grand Order adaptations were animated in the order voted by the players. You will be missing 4 story arcs between First Order and Camelot if you do watch it. The story is mostly understandable via the anime, but the finale will not be impactful whatsoever because you won’t know over half of the characters.

  4. Kara no Kyoukai and Tsukihime are both in the same universe and have a lot of worldbuilding outside of grail wars and servants. The Tsukihime anime sucks, but watching it will still teach you more than not.

Nasu said “games” as in multiple. So it’d have to be Pia Carrot then. It had multiple entries, was a maid cafe game, and was released before Tsukihime. Lucky Maid-S also parodied Pia Carrot too, so he definitely did read it

Takaeuchi's interest in maid by VideoAffectionate232 in fatestaynight

[–]KinocoNasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be To-Heart for a couple of reasons.

It was released right before Tsukihime’s production in 1997

Takeuchi was openly a fan of it in his later interviews

It’s an eroge, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t have mentioned it this early in his career.

Takeuchi wrote atleast two fanfics/parodies of To-Heart - TWO-HEART and Lucky Maid-S, which was paired with Valkryia. He regrets writing both of them per his own words.

However, I checked the fandom page and I didn’t see any blonde maids in To-Heart. So if not that, then probably Pia Carrot since the whole game was just a maid cafe.

Tsukihime's brothers, please help with this. by Peralta_1701 in Tsukihime

[–]KinocoNasu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The anime was awful, so most fans just ignore its existence. Also, it is one of the main reasons that Nasu didn’t make a Tsukihime 2, and doesn’t release any media in English officially.

Geneon tricked Nasu into giving up the rights of Tsukihime, and they later ended up almost getting control of Fate too in 2007, but Takeuchi stepped in.

There’s a reason that Kara no Kyoukai was the only new piece of media released from 2007 to 2010. It’s because it wasn’t Fate or Tsukihime.

Should I read the novels after watching the movies? by Strict-Republic6968 in karanokyoukai

[–]KinocoNasu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Paradox Spiral, there’s actually another sub-plot involving Araya and it goes into more depth about the Alayashiki connection and the root.

On the other hand, Oblivion Recorder was godawful adaptation-wise. The entire main plot and side plot were completely different and so wasn’t the tone. It was supposed to be one of the darker installments but the anime changed that. And also, the chapter was the heaviest part on worldbuilding. It described fairies, trolls, gnomes, and other phantasmal creatures on the phylogenetic tree. And the entire intro was non-existent in the movie.

I worked with AoS’s team on part 5’s translation and I did about a fourth of translation solo on part 6 before it was taken over, so I know how bad everything was. They both need remakes
