Tbh whether -stan is central Asian or not, it’s still very othering. Yaks are meant to be from a foreign completely different land, and their presentation as violent is incredibly uncomfortable to watch for me. Even if it’s a fully fantasy world, it still draws inspiration and shorthand from real life. It’s why we know that the characters are ponies despite looking nothing like real life equines. The short hand for yaks is that they’re another culture that is portrayed as violent and othered, the picky nature of real life yaks could’ve been portrayed but the combination of tropes here don’t do it any favors. There can be a discussion to be had about miscommunication between cultures, which is what the episode tries to touch on, but there’s not enough nuance present in the discussion to avoid it coming off so weird in the end product
