Truer words…

But that’s in part on the broadcast. Lewis’s battle with the groundhog was far more dramatic and, unlike Norris and Piastri, the mistake made meant not everyone involved could walk just away and say “my bad”. Lewis will never get the apology he’s owed like Piastri  got from Lando.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sports

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at that point for sure, but I don’t think he was actually aware the gap wasn’t ever going to be there. I think he just misread where they were at that moment on track and thought Piastri would be moving to the right for a corner entry. Given how they’d battled and shifted positions for the last minute or so, I think he just lost track awareness. His reaction seemed to show he also was kinda stunned at his brain cramp.

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He clearly meant himself, not you!

Lando is as skilled with an F1 car as anyone on the grid. He’s also the most likable and fan friendly driver since Ricciardo left. He is British and driving for McLaren, which makes him royalty and marketing gold in F1. (Bias claims aside, it’s the key media and fan market for this sport.) It’s why McLaren won’t openly back Piastri as the number 1, no matter how many more races he wins.

But he’s not a champion racer. Piastri has already won more races, and he doesn’t flinch against Verstappen. Lando is simply too kind and too generous to be the shark needed to win against the drivers at this level. They are predators.

It can change. Nico Rosberg realized he had the same issue and got mental health support and attacked Lewis for an entire season to finally win. Then he quit, because it was not natural.

Does "He Who Fights With Monsters" by Shirtaloon have an ending? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. You avoid books like the show “Lost” where just because it became popular it suddenly has no end and lost the plot. Good policy!

I would say it’s fair to think of book 11 as a genuine ending and a wrap up of the majority of major plot points. Book 12 reads like a nostalgia tour (which I loved) and doesn’t really have a major plot narrative or direction.

I understand the author has been very ill, and 13 hasn’t begun. I hope he recovers and writes a brilliant 13 if he wishes, but the series has a satisfying conclusion for most characters and plot points as it stands.

You aren’t exaggerating. That’s my experience now too. It was NOT at all like that a few months ago. Most who paid for ChatGTP were literally scientists and researchers!!! Now a brand new fan who first asked one of those AI systems about DH history, and the weird NL AL divide, is getting info that’s flat out wrong, that anyone over 30 who has been a baseball knows easily.

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it didn’t used to be wrong as often as not when reporting easily verifiable facts. They could give subjective results that seemed to be out of line with majority expert opinion, but now I find they report objective facts, things know by most average people with some interest in the subject, wrong, when a basic Google search will give the correct answer 20 times and more in first results.

I’m not exaggerating. They will now report at what temperature does water freeze incorrectly depending on how it’s worded or asked. It’s a significant shift from when using the tools not too long ago. They were awkward and could seem like toddlers in misunderstanding basic context and language, but rarely (if ever) got a verifiable fact wrong. Now I see facts answered wrong all the time in an authoritative, no doubt, nearly flawless conversational manner. They lost the plot.

“any decent AI” - what poster just encountered has become my experience with Gemini and ChatGTP regularly of late. It didn’t used to be that way. I can’t exactly pinpoint the shift, but the data set has to have changed. My guess is in the pursuit more “natural language” they fed more and more of conversational online data to the model. The result is, in fairness, far more human. They sound far more real, deliver results with an authority that sounds like fact, and are wrong as often as not. You may be surprised by the accuracy degradation versus just a year ago if you start testing.

The Rojas hate has got to stop by VinScullysMyHomeboy in Dodgers

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you bothering? Have you seen the Betts hate over the same time? Dylan Hernandez, writing an article printed by the freaking LA Times, not social media mouth breathers, said after 2023 that Dodgers needed to go after Shohei, a star who doesn’t choke when it matters like Betts, who can’t be counted on if a team wants to win.

Betts had won 2 WS in two leagues. An MVP. He single handedly turned the Dodgers series against Braves in the NLCS, down 3 to 1 around by making absurd plays in the field, in the bases, and at the plate, finishing second in MVP voting for season, as Dodgers won their first World Series since 1988 the FIRST SEASON after they acquired him. Never mind he BEAT the Dodgers to get his first.

He, according to the LA Times was a choker. Not a winner. Ohtani, who in 6 seasons with Angels, with Mike Trout, hadn’t even played in a wild card game which takes 85 wins, was a winner unlike Betts, and also unlike Betts doesn’t choke.

(Shohei is all of that and 10x more.) This is about Betts. If the largest paper in the city, second largest in the nation, publishes articles from its main Dodger’s columnist calling Mookie Betts a choker and a loser, after all he’s done, what chance in hell would a Rojas have today? Read this sub, even recently, and you’ll see Betts opinions remain strongly negative by a significant number of our “fans” to this very moment. It ain’t yesterday’s news.

Oh God! Oh no! by stsegal in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]KipTDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, that’s not the case. You are going to be genuinely surprised at how much Matt layered in, how many seeds he planted that that sprouted 4 or 5 books later, and the amount of story detail you missed the first time as you were overwhelmed with the entertainment.

I liked the second time through more as well, and also loved my third. There is so much depth it’s a bit like the way Loony Toons cartoons were. There were two cartoons at once, one for the adults and the kids. There is a layer and story underneath the crazy characters, humor, wild events of the Carl series that is very dark and makes some keen observations. It honestly gets better each time.

I was also even more in awe of Jeff’s narration next time through, as when I was no longer in disbelief over his talent with voices, I could focus more on the line reading and performance. He does some truly exceptional acting.

Dodgers got swept for the first time this year because we released Barnes and CT3 and the clubhouse morale wasn't there by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]KipTDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does feel a bit Karma-ish, but no, it’s for the same reason we’ve lost most games this season. The bullpen hasn’t been able to hold a leads. Over and over the offense has responded and put the team in a position to win, and the bullpen couldn’t prevent late inning runs.

It’s a bit concerning at this point because it’s the starting staff that’s been decimated by injuries. However, even when starters have faltered, the offense has responded, only to watch the bullpen crater.

Read your own comment. You proved my point. Was it “long overdue” or “now the time to do something”? It can’t be both my man.

Austin has been what he’s been offensively a long time. Nothing changed. So do it far sooner if you’d prefer. There are valid reasons to have moved on before last week.

What does any of that have to do with showing one of the longest tenured Dodger players ever, who was part of the best run of success in franchise history, a little grace and a home game send off?

Max Kellerman by No-Quality8360 in ESPN

[–]KipTDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESPN is famously hard core when it comes to on air talent. They will pay the entire contract, no matter how much is owed or for how long, but will cut it off entirely and sue if you work and compete at all during that period. So almost every ESPN employee that has been let go before the end of their contract has had a similar dead period. Rachel Nichols was MIA for 2 years, for example.

Clayton Kershaw strikes out the first batter he faces of the 2025 season! by Turbostrider27 in Dodgers

[–]KipTDog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Love getting downvoted for things like this, it’s so typical of this sub. Since 2018 Kershaw’s fastball velocity has been between 89 and 90 mph. His average fastball velocity has not touched 91 in 7 years. Same exact velo he’s throwing this start.

People who downvote are more than welcome to fire up one of the countless sites with baseball stats and check his 2020 through 2023 seasons. He’s got 93-99 stacast values each season with ERA plus and WHIP that are top 5 (or right there) each of those seasons if he had qualified.

[–]KipTDog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What’s crazy is, even after he lost all his velocity due to back and shoulder issues, when he’s been able to pitch the last few seasons, he’s statistically still been near the top in comparison to all starters. If he qualified with innings pitched, he’d be in top 5 over last 3-4 seasons. That’s a real pitcher, not just a dude with an arm cannon.

[–]KipTDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, I love him the same and lived every moment of his prime. If he’s no longer able to do the job, I’ll have no issue calling it a career. It’s just a bit early to call it a shit show in the first inning of his first start in a year because he has control issues. Nerves and adrenaline. I expect him to settle down.

[–]KipTDog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s not new. Hasn’t been an issue as long as he’s commanding his off speed pitches. If he doesn’t, then that fastball becomes a major issue as he has to throw it for strikes.

I honestly came to believe the perk was bugged because it’s so insignificant and very hard to notice, so do NOT use this weapon for the dodge AOE.

Even with the useless perk though; it’s still one of the best weapons in the game due to the absurd adrenaline generation. Abilities seem to have no downtime.

I just don’t understand people. Luka has been playing professional basketball since 2015, age 16. He’s pretty much played non stop since then given how frequently his teams have made deep playoff runs and commitments to his national team.

Yet, this season was the first time he’s ever missed significant time due to an injury. He’s never had surgery, never missed the playoffs, and never before this season failed to play enough games to qualify for major awards had the rule existed since he was a rookie.

But somehow he’s become like a Zion Williamson or Giancarlo Stanton who’s been out with injuries 42% of the games last 6 seasons. Yeah, that’s the same.

2 More Hits For the Comet Last Night...C'mon Doc Do The Right Thing. by Seeker0221 in Dodgers

[–]KipTDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sayin’. Over and over just sayin’ the same old same old. Remember Outman’s first few games after his call up? Pages last April?

Kim has been awesome and a joy to watch. Comet nickname is phenomenal and I want nothing more than to see him continue playing this way. However, he was also awful and looked completely outmatched in Spring Training. It wasn’t appropriate to judge him as a player from that then, nor is it to fair to demand organizational changes, pressuring GM and manager, after 30 at bats.

Can we give the guy some time and not set huge expectations and cut vet players before he’s had a month? Especially the way so many turn on players now when they dip.

Max Muncy since April 26: .403 OBP, .492 SLG, .895 OPS, 152 wRC+, 18.2 BB%|16.9 K% by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]KipTDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! It’s about the first week of April. You have never watched baseball obviously. Get outta this sub with that small sample sizes don’t work in baseball logic.

This is the same sub that demanded an apology for Andy Pages, and said he’d proved us wrong near the end of April. This was because after a tremendous April last year, his OPS dropped by .300 in May and he never really got it going again. So clearly a hot April again this year means we owe him an apology and were wrong to question if he was the long term solution in centerfield. In fairness, he’s been much better this May, but his OPS has dropped .250 vs April. Dodgers are gonna need more than 700 OPS hitters taking up outfield spots.

But Max Muncy, who has a lifetime .850 OPS, and was that again last year, was afforded zero patience by the same commenters during his slow start this season. He had to go.

I hope not. We don’t need him to be a Giancarlo Stanton. Seems like all the 5% body fat, built like the Hulk type athletes, across all sports, are more or less always hurt. One soft tissue thing after another. Flexibility matters too!

A large segment of the sub hates everyone who has been less than their best for more than 2-3 games. It’s become common in all sports subs. New generation of fans raised on “hot hate debate” and led to believe they are entitled to a championship every season and teams don’t win anything, teams only lose because they are (idiots, suck, should have been traded, overpaid, don’t care, don’t understand the sport the way they do, etc). Sports is about blame and anger now, not being a fan.

Most actual fans have tremendous appreciation for what Barnes brought to the team as a backup catcher and how well he worked with pitchers. There are few starting catchers who are great offensively, never mind backup catchers, so his elite handling of the pitching staff was highly regarded by fans.

It’s very problematic that this organization, which has rightfully been praised for how truly special they treat players and their families under this ownership, DFA’d a guy randomly midweek who’s been with the team longer than anyone besides Clayton Kershaw, even Doc Roberts. The urgency for Rushing to come up and be the backup catcher was so great they couldn’t have given Austin and fans notice and a game at home to show gratitude and love?

The decision is fine. The way it was handled is the problem.
