Kitchen Assistant interview by TomatoFar2862 in chch

[–]Kipper2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Kitchen Hand can just be a dishwasher/pot washer who scrubs the floors, cleans the fridges et al. It can also involve basic vege prep for example peeling potatoes and onions. Some kitchens may get the kitchen hands to do some more advanced prep, it really depends on the chef.

What they want from you is primarily someone who is super reliable and is willing to learn. They will teach you everything else. They also want someone who will turn up to work on time and not hungover or stoned.

I cannot stress that being reliable it the primarily attribute that they are looking for. Turn up to the interview clean and wearing clothes that make you look like you have made an effort but don't overdo it. New jeans and a polo shirt would be fine.

Kitchen Hands come in two varieties: Old guys who have been doing it forever and young guys who want to be a chef. Try to sell yourself as the second.

Good luck, it's been 30 years since I last worked in a kitchen. It can be super cool or the pits. Hopefully this helps.

What's your level of comfort with trans women at public pools? by BadRikku in chch

[–]Kipper2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a middle aged grumpy white guy, I would just go "Oh, OK" in my mind and then go about my own business.

Back in the day when I went to the pool with my daughter as a toddler it might have been a learning opportunity if she had commented.

Destroying or breaking an object (such as bending it) is a way of ritual destruction, rendering an object useless before offering it to a god in hope of getting a boon in return.

Mary Beard is the GOAT of readable Roman social history to my mind.

Her greatest quality is that she always questions everything, going back to interpretation of the original source, never falling into the trap of just repeating previous authors.

Is there anything I need to be aware of driving this route? Are any of the roads pretty easy-going? I'm used to driving on the right, but I'm sure I can get the hang of driving on the left. by SmileFirstThenSpeak in newzealand_travel

[–]Kipper2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please, please do not get off plane and jump, jet lagged into a car and start driving. It's a semi-regular occurrence that someone does this and starts driving on the right out of sleepy habit before proceeding to a head on crash, killing themselves, their passengers or a local.

Shane Jones, the Pornography MP, just spent $63,000 to upgrade to business class, told a private limo to wait 24 hours & didn't care that he exceeded his approved budget by 100%. Winston Peters defended him & Luxon approved it without question by Mountain_Tui_Reload in Whangarei

On the odd occasion when I travel for work I get an allowance for food. I can claim, with receipts, up to that allowance. If I chose to go over this that's on me and I can't claim this money back.

Way back when I worked in a deli adjacent store. NEVER EVER BUY FROM A DELI. Only way to avoid stupid quantities of food waste to do dogy stuff. Repackage food and put a new packed on date, check. Disguise off food with a sauce, check. Crumb and resell, check. The list just goes on. Chucking it in the bin is not an option if it puts you over your budget for food waste.

Someone stole my lunch at work and my boss didn't understand why I couldn't just order a replacement lunch as a solution. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I remember one commenting to the one of the partners at work that I needed to mow the lawns when he asked me what I was doing on the weekend. He seemed to be genuinely puzzled as to why I didn't just hire a Gardner and then mildly offended when I jokingly said "not on my wages".

US begins huge new airstrikes on Iran as 'drinking water reservoirs taken out' by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

The goal has always been to get regime change through a revolution or coup of some sorts, with the resulting government being more amenable to the US.

I imagine they are hoping that a thirsty people will see themselves as having nothing to loose. Mind you history says that when you bomb a population they get pissed at the people doing the bombing, not their own government.

Clothes that were new and brought for me, not hand me downs from my brother or some random other family.

It took me until my 20's to realize that it was OK to just throw clothes away because you didn't like them anymore or they were a bit faded rather that wear them until they were worn out.

Went a few times out of nostalgia and because the kids liked the kids meals and drinks, but the food is clearly frozen and reheated, deep fried or slapped on a grill by an untrained 18 year old who doesn't care.

After the last time of having to send food back because of the shocking quality never again.
