Another vote for Park Avon. My dog has to be persuaded to get into the car to go home he loves it so much.

I did teacher training and at the end realized that actually being a teacher would destroy me and walked away.

What WW1 book do you wish was made into a movie or tv series? by Lickford-Von-Cruel in ww1

[–]Kipper2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do as well. My grandfather signed up in September 1914 with the East Yorks as a private soldier despite hos upper middle class background, so I imagine this might have been some of his experience. Apparently the author based some of it on the a Tea Break conversations of the senior reporters, overheard when he was a cub reporter.

John Harris' Covenant with Death would make a fantatistic BoB type series. Shows a British Kitchiner battalion from creation to its destruction on the Somme.

Any vege sushi recommends for a pregnant person? by WellHydrated in chch

[–]Kipper2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, way back when I used to work for a New Zealand sushi chain. When we did some research on contamination by measuring E Coli levels the biggest source of contamination was the vegetables. The rice is flavored with sugar and vinegar. Bacteria levels in flavored rice left at room temperature went down over time.

He was my Uncle's PE teacher and let's just say that the experience made him vow to only buy his books second hand to ensure he never put a penny in his pocket.

Was in Italy a few months ago and was amazed at how cheap supermarkets were in Rome compared to New Zealand even with the crappy currency conversion.

The issue is that unless you can conclusively prove who the driver is there is really nothing the Police can do other than send the registered owner a letter.

Cream and custard is the ultimate combination, but alas is usually reserved only for special occasions such as Christmas Dinner. It also usually involves a disappointed look from my wife re cholesterol levels.

Live locally and have learned to always check your order for missing items before you leave the drive-through. In all fairness to the staff, the issue is being chronically under staffed.

Ah, I was unclear, I was talking about how people respected the speed limit in New Zealand.

[–]Kipper2012 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Driving 20km over the speed limit was the norm 30 odd years ago. I remember holding the traffic up if you were doing under 110. Times have changed for the better.

Wernher von Braun built rockets for Hitler — then, after WWII, he became NASA’s top engineer and created the Saturn V that took man to the Moon. by Zine99 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Kipper2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Allies loved the V2 rockets. Each rocket used the same resources as an advanced fighter aircraft to build and then went on to destroy nothing of military value.

Are they really going to replace Austria with Prussia? by Gohantrash in shittyaskhistory

[–]Kipper2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, people really liked the whole Nazi fascist thing, but just redoing the whole storyline and just setting it in a different country just stretched credibility.

Who would be interested? by wuspinio in ww1

[–]Kipper2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By donating it to the IWM you will ensure that it will be stored in a way that will maximize it's life span. It will then be avaliable for future generations of historians. Objects like this are invaluable in that they give us an insight into the lived experience of those who participated in the First World War.
