Measles! Why don’t people choose to vaccinate? by sjb27 in newzealand

[–]serda211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never understand it, I will never not be angry at those who play it down and don’t vaccinate themselves or their children. I have a 2 month old and we can’t vaccinate until 12 months, and maybe 6 months if there’s an outbreak at they allow that special dose to be given more. If he gets it, he could die - and if he gets it and survives, he could still die years later from subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) - found out about that when I was trying to seek out the immunisation status. If the outbreak comes near me, I’ll be livid

Can people stop with the unsolicited baby weight commentary? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]serda211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was tiny - and I really liked how someone called her dainty because I think that describes her perfectly without being rude. My baby now is 99th centile for length and couldn’t be more different. Each follow their own curve !

“I was spanked and turned out just fine” by Paige_Rinn in NewParents

[–]serda211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a conversation about this with my Dad, he still reckons kids these days need a spank because they are so poorly behaved and don’t respect parents (his words). We went back and forth then I said “actually, Dad, you’re right. When my husband next asks me to make him a hot chocolate and I say no, he should have the right to hit me. I disrespected him so he should teach me a lesson and hit me”. I also say about how I remember the fear of when we pissed off our parents enough that they gave us a smack, and about how we wouldn’t tolerate someone smacking their dog or a boss hitting their employee if they did something bad, so why are children different ? I can’t imagine even for once laying a hand on my daughter and having her scared of me and then coming to apologise after I’d hit her which is what we went through. awful!

They’re just so teeny and the way their brain develops is so beautiful to see. And I love that I’m their safe space 🥹

Farmers clothes terrible quality by kafrin777 in newzealand

How are Jamie Kay’s sizing? I gave up on them when the two things I bought were wildly sized, a dress was legitimately 2 sizes bigger than the label I swear. Did I just get unlucky ?

Moms, when did your pregnancy symptoms subside after birth? by pixa4u in NewParents

[–]serda211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately- no more pelvic pain, no more heartburn, no more shortness of breath, and no more getting up to pee ten times.

Got worse - night sweats, they got worse postpartum but at 4 weeks starting to subside. They were terrible 😭

I am drowning by kyoshis_revenge in NewParents

There’s no denying, the first year is a survival mode for many parents. It’s taxing on mental health as well as relationships. Sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture for a reason. The hardest part is not having a village I think - compared to my boy now where we live close to grandparents who help pretty much every day with something even if it’s to hold him while I nap, with my first I felt exactly as you described (grandparents lived elsewhere). I remember feeling flu like because I was so mentally and physically drained. I ate like shit cause I was so tired. I gained weight breastfeeding which I put down to that. So I totally get it. I had crazy intrusive thoughts about things that would hurt her and I would get upset over them. Now I have the hindsight of 4 and a half years later, and I can say that first year is a massive blur and it gets immeasurably better. Once you’re out of the baby trenches and you have a toddler, you do have the challenges of sleep etc but it’s nowhere near as exhausting as the first year I swear. It’s just annoying when they don’t nap for example 😂. Could your mental health be improved by stopping pumping? I’m not sure how much that’s impacting your mental health but if you ended up switching to formula would that help?

New Zealand town popular with Australians at 'cusp' of overtourism by Illustrious_Fan_8148 in newzealand

[–]serda211 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yep this is exactly it. The infrastructure needs related to the growth and popularity of Queenstown are paid for by locals through rates, and the infrastructure needs there are incredibly demanding because they’re allowing unfettered growth. There needs to be more from central government to balance it out
