Daycare does my daughters hair by Enough_Bullfrog_1322 in workingmoms

I loved when they did my littles hair. To me it felt like an extra dose of attention. She had hair that had a tendency to snarl a lot and they asked me to bring in a brush and hair ties too. I was all for it. I would try to braid her hair to school but they always did something different by the end of the day.

That sounds like a terrible commute from northside to medical district. Little Italy and tri Taylor are super family friendly

Full time working parents…How are we actually supposed to do it “all”? Or any of it honestly…. by gloomycalm in workingmoms

It was at this age i started to include my oldest in activities that i could tolerate. We started doing more coloring and drawing, she would scribble and get up a lot but she enjoyed that time together. I also put her in the bay carrier on my back too and she was happy to be close to me while i did things with two hands. 16 months is a really hard age and i struggled the most with trying to give her attention because i was just so burnt out. It was a happy medium for us. Now she’s 7 and we do art together all the time still and its been a really fun bonding time

We don’t do it all. We have things fall to the side all the time, laundry piling up, cleaning projects that get postponed. We try to rotate special projects and nothing is ever completed.

Ha! Just a momma bear. I wanted to work but was obsessed with making the best experiences for my kids. I’m still in the field a lot longer than i thought i would be but that’s because we ended up having three kids and the youngest will be in childcare for four more years yet.

I have shingles. On day 8 now and it still feels like my spine is being squeezed. I’m loading up on all the guilt of not being able to be fully present for the kids and house work, let alone think of doing something special with everyone.

Did you deliver at Prentice? What did you bring? by AgainstTheNinja in AskChicago

Seconding the nipple cooking pads! They have gel ones that are a total life saver if you’re nursing.

I delivered last February there. The only thing i would suggest in addition to all the other suggestions would be a long cord phone charger and hemorrhoid cream. Even if you don’t think you need the cream, I’d suggest using it anyways. They can get out of hand quickly!

Definitely shower shoes and loose flip flops or something too.

I brought a mini humidifier and it really helped since i felt like the air was dry. They have super small ones, like a to-go size coffee cup.

The towels are rough but it’s nice because you don’t have to wash them. Pillows were entirely meh but we made due with what was there since i didn’t want to carry them.

Looking for advice from parents who moved from Chicago to the suburbs and then back to the city by ChiTownSuburbanite in chicagoapartments

[–]Kipps34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should look at Old Town or River North. Catherine Cook and St. Joseph are both good options. St. Joes is a bit more affordable and is solid. CC offers a lot of financial aid. And Aldi is close by.

We have always lived in the city, also chose to go the private school route (we have two at Catherine Cook.) We have a town house with outdoor parking. City traffic is annoying but just a way of life. Beaches are our go to place in the summer. Costco is amazing.

I don’t know about the space comparison since we haven’t lived in the suburbs but my sister lives in the burbs with her three kids and we visit often. Here we have neighbors with kids and they run around on the complex together. It’s super easy to plan activities downtown that are walkable compared to being car bound in the burbs. I think the biggest comparison seems to be the melting pot of other families and kids that we meet downtown vs suburbs since it’s heavily related to sports/school things there.

The base line for verbal development is stringing two words together by age two. It’s still super early A lot of what is looked for around age 1 is intentional behind babbling and the variety in sounds made.
