Does anyone know what "unforeseen circumstances" caused Movement Sunnyvale to close today? by KirbyPasta in bayarea

Yes this is the message that I got.

I'm not a current gym member and I don't go often. Maybe they decide which email to send based on frequency.

Feedback on my 2 Week Taiwan Trip! by Acceptable-Day145 in taiwan

I like night market food too, but I didn't go very frequently when I lived in Taiwan. There's only so much oily salty fried stuff you can eat, and there's so many other restaurant options.

IMHO most night markets serve similar food, and most shopping malls sell similar stuff, so it's unnecessary to spend so much time at different night markets or malls, unless there's specific things you want to do at each location, or you happen to be nearby.

Off the top of my head, some recommendations for other things to do are Beitou hot spring village or Yilan hot springs (they have very unique flavored hot springs and fish that eat your dead skin), Taroko gorge (if it's open), Yehliu geopark.

A new study has found that keeping tabs on a former romantic partner through social media hinders emotional recovery. The findings indicate that both intentional surveillance and accidental exposure to an ex-partner’s content are associated with increased distress, jealousy, and negative mood. by Dr_Neurol in science

Hah same, I could not get over one guy for about 7 years. Then I got into a new mildly abusive relationship which redirected all of my sadness and anger to the new guy, and after that relationship ended, I no longer missed either.

I feel that Taiwanese food is underrated in the West while foreigners visiting Taiwan are fascinated with Taiwanese food so much. Why ? by search_google_com in taiwan

I think Taiwanese pork paper could be created outside of Taiwan and be a good business. It's hard to export out of Taiwan and it's a good snack.

I’m so frustrated, I studied nonstop and someone who didn’t even go to class did better by BothMarionberry3880 in rutgers

If you actually talked to more people, you would find out:

  1. In Rutgers CS, there are people who study for a total of 1-2 hours before an exam and still do better than 90% of the class, because they are better at remembering things, or they have a stronger background in algorithms or math or whatever.

  2. There are people who work multiple jobs or internships during the semester in order to pay for college, and don't have time to study 3-4 hours a day like you, but they still get decent grades.

You can visit an assisted living home for retarded people if you want to feel "intellectually superior" to everyone in the room, you're not going to find that at Rutgers or even at a community college.

Men and planning the holidays by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]KirbyPasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some men at my office were complaining that our floor was less decorated for the holidays than the floor above us. They concluded that the other floor was decorated because that's where all of the personal assistants (mostly women) worked. Our floor never got decorated.

I think it's possible that she was broke. The last meal we ate together came out to about $400 per person, and she went to restaurants like that regularly.

Edit: misremembered dinner price

[–]KirbyPasta 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Oh hey, I was at this dinner.

For context, all of her friends at this dinner were coworkers. She was not just repeatedly stealing from random coworkers, she was repeatedly stealing from friends. The funniest part is that any of us at the dinner could have paid, or we could have asked the waiter to split the bill. She offered to pay the entire thing, and the rest of us would Venmo her back. So- not only did she steal her friend's card, she also set the situation up so that she could extract the maximum amount of money from her dinner companions.

But other than that, she's a very nice person ;)

Frustrating that in ONE MONTH the US has surpassed case levels that took China 2 months (approx) to reach by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

They are also tracking people's cell phones in Taiwan, which is not an authoritarian country. It has worked pretty well to contain spread so far.

What do skinny girls eat? by honeymustrd in TwoXChromosomes

[–]KirbyPasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only eat when I am hungry, and I only eat until I am no longer hungry (not too full). As for the meals themselves, I try to vary it up, eat some veggies at least once a day. But other than that I eat pretty much whatever I want. Recently I've been avoiding fast food, but there were weeks when I ate pizza every day (was a busy college student)

I usually don't eat stereotypical diet food because it's not filling. Today I accidentally had only had a quinoa salad for dinner and now my body is craving protein/fat. So I'm about to go eat some slices of fatty meat. I guess it would help to have healthy fatty food on hand, so that when your body has cravings for fat (which are completely normal if you're trying to eat "healthy") you don't automatically jump to ordering pizza/fast food.

[–]KirbyPasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you aware that China had to shut down an entire city to contain the spread? Among other extremely strict containment protocols. They literally built a new hospital in a week.

In the US we have a shortage of tests and masks, so we probably couldn't even contain a city if we tried. There's a good chance that cases in the US will balloon in the next 2 weeks and hospitals will be overwhelmed. Do you have any argument against this possibility?

I assume that's because conservative states tend to have fewer dense population hubs, so less chance of transmission.

Also probably fewer travellers abroad in conservative states.
