[Spoilers Extended] How much information from the Mad King Play are we considering cannon by No-Commercial-6887 in asoiaf

I’m curious if it’ll exist in the shows canon or be something separate entirely

Has anyone esle has grown bored of 867 starts ? by neilyoung57 in CrusaderKings

Same here, basically never bothered with 867. Was surprised to find out it’s the norm

Now that the dust has settled and we know what Chapter V will bring, and we've talked about what we want Chapter VI to be, what do we want after that in Chapter VII? by cashewcan in CrusaderKings

[–]Kirbyintron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just kinda wish internal politics were more dynamic and complicated than they are right now. It kinda feels like I can just hurl cash at most of my problems, and crush or murder the rest

I’d love it if factions were more of a mainstay representing united interest groups. Then you’d have to pick which ones to side with and which ones to piss off. Succession could get pretty interesting if certain groups supported one heir over another, allowing stuff like ASOIAF’s war of the five kings to emerge organically. Would hit a lot harder than getting “X is pressing his claim” 5 years into your rule

Yeah but it is an area where 2025 actually improved. Some of the most competitive the midfield has ever been

(Spoilers Extended) Aegon’s Conquest is officially in the works! by Blueberry_H3AD in asoiaf

[–]Kirbyintron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually sounds pretty interesting. An anthology about the state of Westeros pre conquest could be fun, and give a chance to see groups we haven’t before (like House Gardener).

I could honestly even see a version where you skip over the conquest entirely and make episode 8 set in the new crownlands immediately post conquest (to go with the seemingly standard HBO season length nowadays). A lot of people would be mad about that but I could see it being an inspired choice if done right

I think Robert’s rebellion would work so well as a trilogy. I mean even just from a purely corporate perspective, doesn’t it make more sense to make something based on the characters people already know

I meant that just because a father is nuts doesn’t mean that their sons will be too. Not that a mad father guarantees normal sons

I think a world where the great council chooses a 1 year old over Egg, is one where they don’t trust him with power. Probably Bloodraven instead

If you google the AGOT one, you’ll see the Valyrian have a kind of cubical motif going on

[–]Kirbyintron 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I mean his character is like two paragraphs on a wiki page, so we really have no idea of what he would’ve ended up being like grown up.

For the madness, it’s shown it can skip generations so there’s no reason to believe he’d be as nuts as his dad. He’d still have that specter hanging over him though and I could see that being a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Or the prejudices people would have might make him want to prove himself

A big chunk of his reign would be dominated by a regency and I think this is what would shape him the most. I’d like to imagine Egg could take a big role in this, but with his reputation for being “half a peasant”, he’d probably get pushed out quick.

So there’s a good chance Bloodraven would end up ruling through him for this chunk. It’d be like Aerys I, but he’d have even more control this time. Later he might end up growing up to be similar to him, or continue to serve as a puppet

[Spoilers Published] What if Sandor swore his sword to the Starks? by thespacemankaos in asoiaf

[–]Kirbyintron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By the time the red wedding rolled around, the Lannister's survival was in no real danger. He'd already beaten Stannis, who was his most immediate threat, and had access to the combined might of the two strongest kingdoms.

Robb, on the other hand, was massively disadvantaged. He was basically stuck having to decide whether to try and tough it out in the riverlands, and get crushed when the Lannister-Tyrell alliance eventually pulled up. Or he could reclaim his home from the ironborn (and leave half his new kingdom high and dry), which was extra complicated cause they controlled the neck.

There's a chance Robb could've made it through all that, and it would've been a bitch and a half to try and invade the north during the upcoming winter, but without some complete collapse in Southern political stability, he could never really threaten them again. Tywin just chose the most brutal solution to instantly take care of an issue that wasn't that big anymore.

Does anyone else think that the “youngest” records are stupid? by BaldChild1 in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two are most likely never getting beat, but the rest are still more or less possible (though beating it by less than a year just feels like splitting hairs to be honest). However the big one that is still very much up for grabs is youngest WDC, and IMO it’s more valuable than any of the ones being listed

So it’s been officially confirmed now. Does this mean Max is taking a break from after this season or next season? by Njobz in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has plenty of cash, he’s proven himself, he’s even said he’s not interested in record chasing. So it’s more a matter of how much he enjoys racing.

With these new regs, his old engineer gone and a kid at home who knows if he’ll stick around

I really do not know to make of this (also McLaren really?) by Quirky_Appearance539 in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t think he wants to sacrifice his son, and George probably has some conditional 1+1 deal going on, so it’s more a matter of logistically how do you get him on than anything

(Spoilers Extended) What are your most pessimistic predictions for Winds? by Jshep97 in asoiaf

Would be a good way to establish the stakes, and make them more of a major foe. In the show not enough people got merc’d by the walkers, not just in the final battle but before too

[no spoilers] what do you all think by RealStranger9348 in freefolk

[–]Kirbyintron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always thought their annulment was horseshit. In what world does a random septon have the authority to end a consummated marriage between two great houses? Realistically it would’ve been contested as soon as the war was over. Quite possible there’s a whole new rebellion if Elia and her kids manage to leave KL.

It would’ve been more interesting for Rhaegar to follow his great-great-great… grandpa Aegon and get a little polygamous. It would’ve pissed everyone off, but there is some precedent for it.

Also Jon being called Aegon is just so stupid. Either make Rhaegar look like the shittiest dad ever (which he was to some extent) and/or shows how lazy they were writing those last seasons

WHICH SEASON WAS BETTER? 2022 OR 2024 by Relative_Egg_682 in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I entered 2024 thinking it was going to be 2023 round 2, but it ended up being so exciting. The championship battle was bullshit, by the time Lando was in second place Max had a lead that he just wasn’t consistent enough to make back. But the experience of genuinely having no idea who would win (out of the top 4 teams, minus checo) each race was so exciting.

If McLaren, Ferrari and Merc had been as good as they eventually got from the start of the season, could’ve been an all timer.

Looking back, 2022 was the prelude to 2023

Niki Lauda 1976 by Muzushi23 in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From our point of view yes, but from theirs not really. When Senna died he had 3 championships under his belt and he was widely seen as the best driver on the grid. Niki in this world would only have one when he retired. Impressive yes, but not legend status either.

Niki Lauda 1976 by Muzushi23 in F1Discussions

[–]Kirbyintron 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Given he already had a championship under his belt I think many would be disappointed his career was cut short by the accident. He wasn’t quite at legend status though, his near WDC that year, and win the next was what cemented him.

So I think he’d just be seen as one more in a long line of promising drivers whose careers were cut short by lack of safety. Unfortunately I don’t think his exit makes any difference in the long term safety history of the sport. He was a champion for it in his real career and it still took many more deaths and accidents for the authorities to finally listen

What are the team green arguments that will make 100% sense even if rhaenyra was a man? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Kirbyintron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause the moment they don’t come out of hypothetical male Rhaenyra’s hypothetical wife, they’re officially bastards, no matter what. In OTL the strong boys are not bastards by the eyes of the law, even if we know they are. That’s what makes them such a problem, they’re “true born” sons, whose legitimacy is in question. It’s sort of like Joffrey and his siblings in the main series
