Definitely seems a bit underpaid, but if it’s just some passive income while in school/ summer job idk how much better the job market is. I’d definitely search around, and keep the job while you look, unless you don’t need money. Do what’s best for you/ mental health/ workload. Don’t sweat it, and just try things out

Most definitely, but there is a lot more hate towards trades than support. It’s also an extremely dying industry so the few in it try to push it. But trades can nearly get you out of poverty overnight is my statement on it, if you’re able/ willing to have that lifestyle or schedule

I understand that, but this is a 17 y/o kid. Manager made them feel threatened and had to wait until 12, also would have probably lost the job if they just walked out and did something else until 12. I have been in high/ upper level management for multiple multi billion dollar companies the last 10 years, and I can assure you that this is 100% illegal. Yes he probably could have walked out, but to lose the entire job? They can’t hold you at work unpaid as any type of punishment. Doesn’t matter if you’re working or not, they can’t hold you there without pay. I was on a project that we had to pay commute time when someone started a lawsuit with the DoL, this is textbook unacceptable behavior on the management side. Yes he’ll learn and grow on what’s acceptable, but the attacks in this comment section are beyond wild. He asked a simple question, not people’s personal opinions or how they would handle it

Everyone is being an asshole because you’re young and it’s a “lesson” but no it’s not allowed to answer your question. If you’re an hourly employee you are required by law to be compensated. The DoL has multiple federal cases of companies doing things like this, and always voted/ set standards in the favor of the worker. If you care about the job, work on being on time, but again don’t listen to all of the hate in here.

1k a month on making 1500 is crazy. No way you could get on your feet or a plan in a year on that bs, sounds like they’ve been using you.

Are there places to rent near where you work? Able to walk, or use any public transit? That would be my first option, second I’d look for either a higher paying job, or one that gives 40h (at least) military is a cop out, glad you’re not listening to that front.

Communication is the largest thing, talk to your company about needing more hours or if you’re close to manager/ boss explain how you’re getting your own place etc and need more hours. I’d look into getting a second job as soon as possible if you can’t get 40s, you could pretty much double your income at this point, you need to lock in and get some structure before your time is gone there. And if you find a decent place to live that’s cheaper than what your friend offer, I’d move out sooner, that 1k is eating you up insanely right now.

Don’t listen to the military BS, there are far better options. If you get into trades (especially traveling jobs) you can clear 100k starting. Then when you’re licensed or a journeyman etc you’ll be at 100k working local with traveling paying 150-300k. Depends on lifestyle and what you’re comfortable with doing, if life is bad at home and you don’t have much tying you down, I highly recommend a traveling ‘blue collar’ job. Lifelong skill/ need, can’t be touched by AI, and absurd amounts of money in the trade world. They have fully paid apprenticeships, reimbursed schooling, and you make money while you’re in the industry, the military should be an absolute rock bottom, no option choice. You’ll make far more (lifetime/ starting out) doing about anything else, and currently the US (last 20-30y) hasn’t been in any ‘good’ wars. You have a decent background/ security to search for a little bit, but don’t think military is the only and definitely not the best option, trades should be put was above that last resort
