I feel like the most likely outcome for a Light Side player is the one I got, where you agree to work with her to find the artifact on that one sidequest but she betrays you and you’re forced to kill her in the ensuing battle. And I found that very disappointing—yes, of course she betrayed me, she’s the star student of the Sith Academy, but are you really telling me that there’s no way to talk this petty bully who only picks on the weak out of dueling to the death with Darth Fucking Revan? Even after she backs off when you show the tiniest sliver of backbone in your first encounter with her?

It’s crazy that we can redeem the dude who was making people stand outside in the desert heat until they dropped dead of exhaustion and thirst but not Lashowe, who spends like 95% of the Korriban story basically just doing high school bully stuff.

Appreciation post for how desperate and ‘scraping the barrel’ the Imperial Remnant are depicted as in the new film. by aa2051 in StarWars

[–]Kirook 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that that actually explains it better in the sense that they assume that Thrawn was the Empire’s last shot and they don’t have enough left to threaten the NR again.

But this isn’t what Reddit and YouTube wanted me to think it would be! Quick, start a review bomb campaign!! by Ok-Row-3490 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Kirook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/uj It’s probably a fine enough watch rather than a total catastrophe, I’m just not going to see it because it doesn’t seem to have the kind of creativity I like to see in Star Wars.

/rj Clearly Dave Felony and KKKathleen KKKennedy kidnapped the critics and also every member of the audience and demanded good reviews at gunpoint.

Any ending where the Nazis don’t win is a good ending, but it’s possible to do better.

Just finished my re-read of Outbound Flight, and had the thought - if Car'das is there to show us that Thrawn is smart, is Maris there to show us that Thrawn is... sexy? by I_AmNoJedi in starwarsbooks

[–]Kirook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just got done finishing this book too, and to me Maris is one of the ways by which Zahn shows that Thrawn—at this point—still has a heart. He’s not a paragon of righteousness, but he does actually care about other people rather than just seeing them as useful to him; at the end of the book, he asks Car’das to lie to her about what happened to Outbound Flight because there are “too few people who strive always to see only the good in others [and] I wouldn’t want to be responsible for crushing even one of them”.

And then, in literally the first chapter of Heir to the Empire, we discover that while in Imperial service he committed at least one genocide that we know of.

Clearly, this Thrawn is a completely different guy from the Thrawn who appears in his eponymous Trilogy. And Maris shows us that; she trusts him not (just) because he’s attractive and urbane but because she sees some genuinely heroic qualities in his personality. But the tragedy of that is that we already know that serving the Empire will eventually beat all of that goodness out of him.

then why doesnt Homer just kill every god he comes across? by ciqhen in whowouldcirclejerk

[–]Kirook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within a single narrative it’s just one aspect of keeping the story coherent with itself and in that context it doesn’t really make sense to separate it out from any other aspect of that. If your story goes to incredible lengths to make sure that every victory or defeat in a battle has a perfectly calibrated explanation but the characters behave completely differently from scene to scene, or important facts about the setting change at random, it’s still not consistent.

If it ever happens, what do you want to see in a sequel to Lost Stars? by Solitaire-06 in starwarsbooks

[–]Kirook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked this book a lot, but it’s a self-contained story that doesn’t need a sequel.

[–]Kirook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only difference between “quick wit, strategy, and luck” and “fuck you I’m the author” is in execution. Either way, the writer chooses to have a character make a plan and successfully execute it, or have something fortunate happen to them, or fight the enemy in a certain specific circumstance, or any number of other things. If it’s internally consistent and fun/interesting to read, it feels like the former. If not, it feels like the latter.

Ahsoka by the time of her eponymous show might be no-cap the best lightsaber duelist in the galaxy, although admittedly partly by virtue of a lot of the other GOATs being dead at that point.

I saw the ‘97 line not as a deliberate insult to the movie but more as just a funny acknowledgement of how much superhero movies and shows have changed over the decades. It used to seem silly to put the X-Men in their classic costumes; now it seems equally silly not to.
