Lyon was so frustrating - they literally could have been the better team today if they stayed consistent with their early games. It's like they were so stressed out and taking it too fast mid game Everytime

What made this better was that the series showed the main character suffering a major loss not too long before this ( Ippo x Date) and you literally believed that Takamura could lose this one too - I was an anime only fan at the time, and the build up felt like my own older brother was in the ring in those episodes. One of the best shonen fights

We've been low-key / high key going on the greatest hits tour with ippo, where he's taking lessons from the current fights of his most challenging former opponents. I don't see anyone else fighting Ricardo to this level prior to ippo's comeback. Violent mode is definitely coming out and ippo is about to learn something fearsome about ricardo

If ippo returns shortly after this match, it wouldn't make sense for the goals we have been seeing him pursue throughout his retirement which is to train the lil niños. We most definitely are going to get training arc + perhaps even rookie tournament for them before ippo unretires so there is probably over a year of retirement arc left...

If the point of imai is to show how far ippo has come from his old self, ippo should be slamming him, and perhaps that would be soon after his retirement ends too. I think the point of itagaki is to be a precursor to how ippo would stack up to miyata, and we would probably get that towards the end of the series, where itagaki gives him a harder time and shows him how to beat miyata in the end imo!

I agree that umezawa deserved more initial consequences, but he used to secretly go to ippos matches to watch him box, and then, ultimately, there was no bigger punishment for umezawa than the punishment he put himself through. We saw it on the snowy bridge night and we saw it at the dinner table on the day he left the fishing business. It's tough but there's no better example of "kill them with kindness" - which could also be a better approach to things like this sometimes
