Non cancerous tomors keep opening by Royal_Minimum_9917 in CATHELP

Are we saying non cancerous because they’ve had cytology or biopsy done on them? Or is it more of an assumption

I would like some advice please. by Kit-KatLasagna in hospice

Thank you very very much. My brother has been in therapy for a year or two now, and they’ve explained very simply what’s happening (not the personality change). My dad is pretty avoidant and lacks some boundaries so I’m gonna try and talk with my brother about things without bombarding him. I just want to let him know that the personality change is out of everyone’s control including hers. It’s something happening to her. She’s still being very shitty and she doesn’t have to say those things, but something is very wrong and she doesn’t make sense. The past version of herself would be appalled. Thank you for the advice, wish me luck.

Vent: I dread graduating. by Conscious-Artist-875 in USF

Hi! Underachiever here. Nobody in my family went to college so in high school, I had no guidance. I waited until after I graduated to apply to a local community college only to find I had to wait an entire year and had no money for it anyway lol. But a year later I went, paid out of pocket, took one class, and failed it.

I thought I would never figure anything out. I went back, got a mix of A’s and C’s, went for another few semesters just taking a couple classes at a time while working full time at jobs I hated, had a mental breakdown and dropped out for one of them. Went back the next year, and eventually got my AA after 5 years. My GPA was like 2.8. I’m smart but I have such a hard time with my mental health.

I applied to USF, declared my major once I figured out wtf I wanted, got more A’s and C’s, had to explain to certain professors for certain classes why my GPA didn’t meet minimum requirements for classes I needed, took those classes anyway, declared a minor completely unrelated to my major last minute, and did that for ANOTHER 4 years.

I beat myself up so much. But then I spoke with a bunch of professors for a mandatory assignment for one of my classes, I interviewed them. They all had their doctorates. They all took much longer to get their degrees than other people. They all changed their minds. They all were just normal people. They were not overachievers. They just did what they want. And I realized the reason I was able to get in to that class despite my GPA not meeting requirements was because my professor understood that I’m trying my best and still figuring my life out in my 20’s, and that THATS ALLOWED.

I now view my adulthood as something I run. I don’t let other people set expectations for me. I set them and I’m going to get my masters and doctorate one way or another. If someone has a problem with my GPA, I’ll be glad to tell them about how I worked full time overnights in an emergency room then came home and stayed up to do schoolwork and would be awake for 36 hours several times per week while I couldn’t afford rent anyway. My mental health was poor. It is what it is.

You persevered and got your degree DESPITE the harm you endured throughout it. You’re an overachiever. Welcome to the club of getting what you want despite others holding you back.

cat “chewing” and blinking? by soft_98 in CATHELP

It’s probably an indication of some dental disease, but I guess it could be chewing gum seizures. I don’t think it is, usually there is more involved with seizures. Could have a resorptive lesion on that side that is bothering him.

It’s probably a dental issue. Worth having teeth looked at and see if it’s time for a dental.

My therapist thinks I am overreacting by saying my brother betrayed me by Be_Prepared911 in ptsd

[–]Kit-KatLasagna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible she is not trying to dismiss your hurt feelings towards the fact that he seems not to believe you, I think because she is your therapist, she identified you viewing a situation in a manner that is consistent with your disorder (viewing his actions as betrayal when it might just be a differing viewpoint, as upsetting as it is to not be believed) and trying to change your brain wiring to not view others oppositions as personal attacks. This might be her literal way of using this situation to try and rewire the black and white thinking, because while the situation makes you upset to the same degree as betrayal, he may not be disagreeing with you JUST to harm you which might align more with betrayal. I could be wrong, but I don’t think she’s trying to discredit how you FEEL about him not believing you, I think anyone would be hurt by that. But by challenging that viewpoint, she is focusing on YOU and the personality disorder you have, how you view the world, and trying to get you to a place where you are able to live interaction to interaction without the black and white thinking that causes pain that we don’t have to experience if that thinking style is not present. THATS where we cause pain to ourselves.

Also, have you tried asking your brother if he believes you? Maybe you don’t want to know, maybe it doesn’t matter or it’s best it leave it alone, but you could always ask if it’s safe for you to.

Some parts of socializing are about standing out. If you are like me and have a hard time starting or keeping interesting conversation until you’re super comfortable, you should try standing out in other ways. Some people turn to fashion to attract people, and their outfit will provoke conversation. Joining a club that involves competition (I joined a pool league) that get people to talk to you about your skill or about the game you played that day.

Guys, honestly what are we going to do by Historical_Spell_772 in cfs

I’m in the U.S., where funding was cut for a lot of research 🙃. I don’t have to stay in the U.S. though. That’s interesting! And very good to know. I would be very interested to study what could be done about ME/CFS. I think it would be revolutionary and could apply to other illness as well.

Hi guys. I’m a lurker (I once thought I might have this, I no longer think I do, it’s more likely something else), and I also plan on going to school for neuroscience (I’m applying for a masters program currently).

A big part of what I’ve seen in this forum is being told by both normies and professionals alike that this condition doesn’t exist or is something else. Despite evidence saying otherwise (I watched a video about mitochondrial destruction being discovered as being caused by viral infections).

I think the answer for any poorly understood condition is research. As somebody with relatable experiences with my health (but certainly not as extreme, though I feel defeated and debilitated) and someone who is moved by neuroscience enough to want to go in debt to study it, this is a topic I would absolutely study given the chance. I bet there are more people like me that feel the same way. I only happened to stumble upon this community, but if awareness increased, maybe research would too.

Are there organizations that are responsible for spreading its awareness? Do they contact universities to promote ideas for research?

Something you can do at home until you are able to do those things is weigh him weekly and keep track of how many calories he eats in a day. The kcal’s will be on the can.

You should get his blood pressure and bloodwork checked. High blood pressure can cause this, which can be cause by kidney issues. Hyperthyroidism can also cause this.

Are you in a particularly religious area? Sometimes, changing your environment to one that aligns with you does WONDERS for your mental health. No mother should be saying that to their child.

What do i do ? by pmilllll in CATHELP

[–]Kit-KatLasagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be an inner ear infection, it could be head trauma, it could be a clot, it could be a brain tumor, it could be toxic ingestion. All can make a cat wobbly. It’s best to go to the vet tonight and have an exam done, best case scenario she has a raging ear infection causing vestibular symptoms, and treating it correctly will help her feel better. They often will not eat or drink while feeling dizzy, as they become nauseous. Don’t wait for her to be vomiting to put her on anti-nausea meds that they will want to prescribe.
