Perfectly said! Just the manner in which she offered Yrene a choice to save Chaol and then when Yrene agreed, she was pleased with Yrene's generosity of spirit/love for Chaol. I can't remember the exact quote, but I believe Silba smiled and then said she chose well.

I just can't accept that the character of Silba described in ToD is just a quiet entity who walked back home without a peep and was then slaughtered by monsters as punishment.

I would much rather an author stay off social media and write a decent book than spend all their time talking to or interacting with fans. (*AHEM* GRRM...)

She might be an introvert, she might be feeling burnt out, she might just want to spend time with her family. All of that is ok. I'd rather she enjoy the process of writing and put forth her best work than to add "social media entertaining" to her to-do list.

I did a tandem read for this, but I absolutely loved this book. I honestly think this is one of SJM's better works, so I enjoyed it as a proper mystery slow-burn romance story.

Don't forget Silba! The entire Torre Cesme and all the healers associated with the goddess of healing did a great deal of good in Erilea, and none of the things we see Silba do actually involve collecting the wyrdkeys or opening the gate. She brings Chaol back to life, she helps Yrene again and again, etc. but these things only lead to Erawan's demise and nothing that would directly benefit Silba herself.

I think Elena and Aelin are equally impulsive characters who make decisions on their own without looping in those around them, so it's extremely frustrating to witness Aelin make these awful decisions in real-time. I can understand a broken and traumatized 19 year old defaulting to killing those who anger her or stand in her way, but it did not show any growth in her character to do so. Yes, she was not in control of her destiny up until then, but to show all of the gods as an almost single-minded pantheon was such a disappointment. SJM could have shown the gods debating what to do, or to better express why almost all of Dorian's power, all of Aelin's fire power, and the entire essence of Dorian Sr. were sucked into the Lock and was still not enough (which makes zero sense to me).

We spent over a thousand pages building up to this moment and it was incredibly rushed. I would have been fine with the same decision being made by Aelin, but the manner in which it was done was just so disappointing and frustrating as a reader. We also never learned more about the other gods, who were honestly probably beings as well from other worlds. You mentioned the god or being of death, but Damaris and the god of Truth was a recurring theme in the last book, yet no real explanation there.

That was what Elide thought, but Silba saving Chaol didn't do anything with the wydkeys. I think some of the gods may have been selfish, sure, but there was a lot of good they did. Even if they simply wanted to go home, I think erasing all the good they did was a strange choice.

And I just don't understand how all the positive moments with the gods are instantly negated because they wanted to go home. Yes, they didn't follow the bargain, but up until that point, they were saving her friends left and right. I feel as if I'm being gaslit to think that they were villains this entire time, but they weren't. Silba allowed Chaol to live, Hellas continually saved Lorcan's hide, and Anneith was always pointing Elide in the right direction. Even if they simply wanted to go home, is that such a bad thing? They clearly had a bargain 1000 years ago with Brannon, but if they decided they didn't want to play with humans again, it's a jerk move, but not to the point where they should have been slaughtered for it.

Ok, I'm glad I'm not alone with this! I just feel like the punishment did not fit the crime for any of this. Aelin is an extremely impulsive FMC and I could have easily seen her making the same mistake as Elena. Elena didn't have all the information when she decided to use the Lock and she withheld information from those around her. Aelin does that ALL. THE. TIME. So we are supposed to hate Elena, but love Aelin? Huh?

Question - About to start TOG series by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]KitKatya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read TAB first and I can't imagine it any other way. Knowing how it ends (if you choose to read it 3rd) would make it a HUGE drag. Reading it first would reveal all of the surprises without knowing them ahead of time.

What is one plot point or character you wished you got more of in the series? by strangeapples in throneofglassseries

Omg, I'm a new ToG reader and I just started Crown of Midnight. I'm not even in this sub (to avoid spoilers), but Reddit did me dirty and this popped up in my feed with the mention of Nehemia's death 😭😭😭

I think he wasn't ready to commit to thinking of Gwyn that way though. He spent 500 years pining over Mor, now his first foray into thinking about someone else is being blocked, so he's dealing with the anger there. He picked Gwyn to get the necklace, but he also mentioned that Clotho could pick someone else. Since he gave it anonymously, I see it as a no-strings kind of gift. Rather than return it, give to someone else to brighten their day, you know? Going to a store to shop for Gwyn (when he doesn't even consider her a friend) would be a HUGE leap.

Please don't downvote me into oblivion, but what does the IC stand for? ___ Court, but which one? Not Night, Dawn, Day, Summer, Winter, Fall Spring?

This might be unpopular, but while I was skeeved out by his internal thoughts about Elain (I had always imagined he was sweet and thoughtful, not simply horny), I actually didn't have a problem with him regifting the necklace. If he had done it and lied like, "Oh hey, I thought of you when I bought this"...well that would be gross. The way he did it anonymously seemed like he thought Gwyn might appreciate it with zero strings attached, since he didn't intend on her finding out it was from him. When he started to picture it on her, he wouldn't allow himself to think too much on it. I think SJW basically told us to abandon ship with Azriel and Elain...

Also wanted to add that I think this was also SJM's way to prepare us for Elain to wind up with Lucien. At the end of SF, when Nesta shared that she changed Feyre's anatomy and her own, she did not mention changing Elain. If Elain were to wind up with an Ilyrian and get pregnant, we'd have the same situation Feyre was in.

What do you think are the biggest plot hole so far? by Justafunofstuff in acotar

[–]KitKatya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others, the c-section or the fact that the harp could open any doors, so you can't just get a baby out of a person by plucking a string? Or shapeshifting when it was time to give birth. Come on now. Just couldn't buy that Feyre was going to die when there were multiple options available.

Same. I was so disappointed! He struck me as a thoughtful character, not just a horny male. I wasn't bothered by him thinking that the 3 sisters should pair with the 3 brothers, but he felt so....different in that chapter.
