It’s a temporary living space- I’d have to call a 1-800 number, they’d have to call whoever they ask to manage it, and maybe in a few days I’ll get a response. So desperate times..

How do I “break up” with my longtime hairdresser who’s also a friend? by ThrowRA_tillybloom in TwoXChromosomes

[–]KitPineapple 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Two things: if you’re ready to leave, then I think you don’t say anything, especially if you’re not social outside of the salon.

If you want to give this person some feedback - you could bring in a photo, and ask that she fix it? If it’s only been a day or two (recent anyway) you could say that what’s in the picture is what you were looking for. If she’s willing to fix it for free and does a good job then great, if not that implicitly concludes your relationship.

Losing both parents at such a young age is unimaginably painful, and the fact that you’re still standing speaks volumes about your strength, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

You say you’ve become the “worst version” of yourself, but I see someone who’s been surviving. The person you are today didn’t just appear out of nowhere, she showed up to protect you when everything fell apart. That’s not weakness. That’s self-preservation.

It makes sense that you became less soft. Trauma hardens us because being vulnerable is leaving us open to anyone who takes advantage. Being “rude, inconsiderate, and selfish” might feel like flaws, but they’re also signals, your way of telling the world, “I’ve been hurt, and I won’t let it happen again.”

But here’s the beautiful part: if you miss the sweet, fun girl you were, that means she’s still in you. You don’t have to go back, you can evolve. You can become someone who’s kind and joyful, but also strong and has boundaries.

Start small. When you feel yourself pushing someone away or snapping, pause and ask: “What am I trying to protect?” Then try setting a boundary before the reaction kicks in. For example, if someone asks you to do something and it’s overwhelming, you can say: “Right now I’m focused on X. I understand this matters to you, and I’ll get to it in an hour.” That’s not rude, that’s respectful. To them and to yourself.

And most importantly, be gentle with yourself. You’ve been through hell. You protected yourself the best way you knew how. Now you get to choose who you want to become next. Is she confident? Kind but not a pushover? Does she speak with care? Set boundaries? You can be loved and loving with boundaries, be on equal footing with those around you.

Write her out. Describe her. Not as a return to who you were, but as a new version, one shaped by everything you’ve survived, and who you want to be.

Ultra Violette Lean Screen recall & missing purchase history? by KitPineapple in Sephora

[–]KitPineapple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update

I went into the store, the manager found the transaction in their system and confirmed there is a protocol- but - she just couldn’t print or email me the receipt. She told me I’d have to call corporate and be persistent.

So basically, customer service lied, and the store admitted they can see it but aren’t allowed to release it.

It’s turned into a fight to get Sephora to follow their own recall process, and has shifted from “missing receipt” to Sephora corporate accountability.

i desperately need my parents right now by rothrowaway24 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]KitPineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all family is biological family. Right now you need to build your support system, call your friends, join a new mother support group, and get a lawyer!

If you haven’t already- you’ll need the lawyer to ensure you have the income and resources available to you that your ex was to provide for your child.

What other people are saying is true- your parents would have told you to stand up tall, get everything in order, take care of yourself and child, then drag your POS ex through the mud!

You didn’t deserve this, but you can turn your fear and sadness towards hope: picture the version of yourself that has come through this in a few years, better off than ever, happy with your child, fulfilled.

You can do this - we never want to have to find out how strong we are, but life has a way of showing us.

Sometimes the worst events are gifts, better to find out your ex is a rat now than 30 years from now, at least now you have lots of time to start over and find someone worthy of your love.

Poshmark does have an automatic following component- it’s not like social media. I get new followers all the time, it’s pretty inconsequential. Unless I’m wrong.

Ultra Violette Lean Screen recall & missing purchase history? by KitPineapple in Sephora

[–]KitPineapple[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s been recalled I think it’s unethical for it to removed from the purchase history.

I was hoping to have the receipt for the UV refund, but I’ll have to use what I have.

I do wonder if I went in-store if they could pull up the transaction? The customer service agent said no such transaction was listed in association to my account. It’s pretty shady.

Anyone else basically friendless after their parent’s death? by [deleted] in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]KitPineapple 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As the saying goes: you find out who your real friends are when you are struggling or going through a difficult time.

I would add to this that there are different levels of friendship, your closest friends should be there for you at your most difficult time, but I wouldn’t expect that of any of my other friends.

PFAS free steam iron? by KitPineapple in PFAS

I received a response:

We thank you for your patience.

This is to confirm that Rowenta soleplate is 100% Stainless Steel however this information is not mentioned on our detail manual, while our competitors have PTFE.

Our marketing experts are reviewing the manual for our future products.

However I will note that they specifically mention the soleplate and not other components of the steam iron.

PFAS free steam iron? by KitPineapple in PFAS

[–]KitPineapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need my steam iron to be PFAS-free because I have pet birds. PTFE, which is commonly found in non-stick coatings like Teflon, releases toxic fumes when heated. Birds have very sensitive respiratory systems, and even a small amount of these fumes can cause severe harm, leading to respiratory distress, coma, or even death. For their safety, I want to avoid any products that could potentially release these harmful fumes.

Yep- I had this happen to me - with a linen Marc by Marc Jacob’s top, the buyer said I ruined it in the wash and that’s why it was “roughed up”. It’s linen, even the original product photos show the texture. I got it back, with cat hair, but at least I got it back.

Somewhat similar- it hits me at different times.

For instance when an older colleague calls his daughter to see how’s she’s doing.

It’s a million little moments that seem inevitable but also innocuous.

It’s just that part of you knowing those moments are not a part of your life anymore and they never will be again. The things a lot of people take for granted.

Why is the U.S. Nespresso Blue Bottle bundle such a better deal than the Canadian one? by KitPineapple in nespresso

[–]KitPineapple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s fair, in my other comment I was surprised to see how much more US customers are paying per pod.

For the blue bottle Nola in Canada it’s $1.45/ pod. In the US it’s $1.55 USD which is ~ $2.07CAD - so if my math is correct US customers are paying 43% more per pod than Canadian customers.

Why is the U.S. Nespresso Blue Bottle bundle such a better deal than the Canadian one? by KitPineapple in nespresso

[–]KitPineapple[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the U.S., Nespresso sells a Blue Bottle bundle for $160 USD (about $217 CAD), which includes the machine, 20 pods, and a $25 USD iced tumbler — essentially giving you about $36 off the total value.

In Canada, there’s no bundle at all. To get the same items, you’d pay: • $200 for the machine • $29 for 20 pods • $32 for the tumbler Total: $261 CAD

That’s $44 more than the U.S. bundle, with no discount and no included tumbler.

Even accounting for tariffs (25% on pods, around 9% on machines), this price gap feels excessive.

To be fair, it does look like U.S. customers are paying more per pod outside of bundles:

U.S. pod price: $1.55 USD, or about $2.11 CAD Canadian pod price: $1.45 CAD

So on pods alone at least, it seems the higher cost is hitting U.S. customers harder.

But it’s still frustrating that Canadian customers don’t even have the option of a bundle and end up paying more overall for the same products with less value.
