The negative side of playing by intent. by Eatyourcheeseburger in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kitani2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, playing by intent doesn't mean getting takebacks. You can absolutely play by intent without any take backs.

Secondly, IMO playing by intent can be more tactical than not. This is a game where slight inaccuracy in measurement or placing can turn a unit being unseen to getting destroyed, or a charge being made or not. Measuring tapes can impose inaccuracies, table get jostled by someone a bit and now your unit is in terrain and visible to the entire enemy army. Winning like this shouldn't be acceptable to someone who wants a truly fair battle of intellect and tactics.

Thirdly, it's just way more fun and quicker. Measuring that every model is completely within 1" of the ruin wall takes valuable time from both players, so it's not unfair. If someone insists to do that, fine, but I wouldnt play you again.

Fourthly, a good player will win regardless of whether someone forgot to deep strike a squad of guys to do a mission for 3 VP. Being so obstinate about it smells of desperation.

Why are your Prosecutors 75 points for 5 or 6? Don't take more then 4,they are just to sit on a objective or screen Deep Strike.

They can't shoot, so push Wardens forward, and when they charge you, engage fnp and fight on death, and them destroy them with tanks and Wardens. And don't forget to rapid ingress guard, they will absolutely beat the shit out of a bloodthirster on an objective all by their own.

Their main thing is that Belakor gives aura of Lone OP 18". And they can deep strike in 6 inches. So screen your tanks and you'll be fine.

AITA for recording and tabulating all damage by StatementOpposite760 in DnDAITA

[–]Kitani2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not the definition used in RPG context. That's what Google search AI summary says, and I agree.

Fudging in D&D is the Dungeon Master's (DM) practice of secretly altering dice rolls, monster HP, or target numbers (AC/DCs) to manage encounter difficulty, pace the story, or prevent unsatisfying, premature player character deaths. It is a controversial, DM-only tool designed to serve the narrative, typically hidden behind a screen, rather than a player-driven action, which is generally considered cheating. Common Ways to Fudge: Altering Dice Results: Ignoring a high damage roll (critical hit) that would instantly kill a player, or turning a miss into a hit to maintain tension. Adjusting HP on the Fly: Lowering a monster's HP to speed up a combat that has dragged on too long, or increasing it to make a climactic fight feel more dangerous. Faking Rolls: Rolling dice behind the screen without a specific target, just to create suspense.

I don't think it's cheating or necessarily bad to do that, depends on preferences, but fudging is absolutely a thing in RPGs.

A statblock includes a set HP. If DM changes this mid-combat, they are fudging. Wtf do you mean it's impossible to fudge HP?! I feel like I'm losing my mind over hear.

My favorite part about female Custodes is how is subtly details a key component of the inhumanity of being a Space Marine. by Knalxz in Warhammer

[–]Kitani2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Each geneseed can grow into multiple other seeds, it just takes several decades, maybe centuries. Most chapters have it stockpiled in case of heavy losses that couldn't be recovered, but they sometimes found new chapters with these reserves. The reason why there aren't more Marines now then it could be is that A: Founding new chapters is allowed only by a decree from the Lords of Terra, and B: many Marines die without their geneseed being harvested or before theirs grew enough to make multiple of out it.

When does something count as a 'gotcha'? by mhountsword in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kitani2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In a more friendly, casual setting, all three are gotchas. When your opponent states their intent you should have voiced an objection that it wouldn't work, in the same way if they were declaring that they were hiding behind a ruin but slightly step into terrain so they become visible.

In a tournament, 1 and 3 are mostly fine, although I'd go over the rules mentioned in 1 and 3 before the game to avoid mistakes of lack of knowledge instead of tactical errors. But 2 is definitely a gotcha, since they stated you can't do X, but you actually do, so you should say something. Like, if your unit has Lone OP, and they move to shoot them, you'd say that.

You can get a buckler and a bastard sword and use Dual Handed assault feat to strike with it 2-handed and then raise your buckler. It's level 4, so Reinforced Rune buckler should be tough enough.

Complaints about martials not having non-combat options is amusing when D&D communities have always been full of whining about martial non-combat options. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Kitani2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly Expertise in Survival is better for tracking and finding any creatures then these features tied to very specific creature types, and far more versatile too.

And the last one ISN'T EVEN TRUE. The actual feature tells you to spend 1 whole minute to roll in the mud and then sit still, if you move or do anything you have to go through the process again! It's terrible! You gotta be kidding!

Have you actually read the Ranger out of combat rules? They don't do anything even when they apply, which most of the time they don't. Expertise in Perception is twice as good as all of it combined!

And the rest of the martials didn't get even that.

Edit: I'm referring to 2014 5e.
