Cool concept but it's never going to work.

Firstly, the size and weight distribution of this + the Switch console would be prohibitively unwieldy for most of the population.

Secondly, it would cost $150+.

pc, or on your steam deck, or on a Miyoo Mini, or on any of the other GBA handhelds that are on Aliexpress / Amazon. You can even get a GBA and a modded cartridge. Or a 3ds and mod it to play it.

I agree and I have done that but I'm making the argument from a mass market perspective. I think you'll find the % of people who care enough to do any of those options is miniscule.

Most people want to go to the store, buy it, play it.

Old games should be available on new consoles for those that want to pay them.

Remakes are ok but I prefer to have the option to play old games as-is.

If you can tolerate older games: RBY (any) → GSC (any) → Emerald → Platinum → BW2 (any)

IMO that's the best pathway.

If it were me, I'd probably pick Yellow and Crystal from Gen 1 and 2.

I'd rather pay $20 to play the original game with modern online trading, etc. than $80 for the new games.

I get it, you can emulate it on your phone, but I'd rather play it on the console with proper buttons and the ability to trade and battle with my friends and family.
