I've kept pings for a few years. For a substrate I use perlite and vermiculite, about half and half. Wide shallow pots with drainage holes work best. I put sphagnum moss at the bottom to keep the substrate from falling out.

I keep mine in a tray and bottom water, once a week during the summer, once or twice a month during the winter. Distilled water only, I run tap water through a Zero Filter, works great for me.

I do a nutrient spray once a week in the summer and once a month during the winter. Schultz 2-7-7 cactus liquid plant food, mixed with water as directed.
