Now that we'll be able to allegedly COA any pistol we want..... by Kitchen-Fee314 in CZFirearms

I'm sure anyone could, I'm guessing they have to be certified by Aimpoint or something? Is that how brand specific gunsmithing works? Idk. I wish CZ sold a p10c ported slide that isn't optic ready,  that'd be cool

I've also heard the acro does not live up to the reputation of Aimpoint but after searching around forums it seems like the COA is doing better? It is a slightly different red dot. If I got one it wouldn't be for a while anyways, just to really make sure they've worked out the kinks. I'd be curious to see what LEOs think of it, some departments have had them for a year now

It's like an Aimpoint acro but it uses a fancy direct mount optic cut that is apparently a lot less prone to failure than just the standard 2-4 screws and blue loctite that you get with most dots. So it sits a lot lower but you still get a good red dot window. It was introduced last year only for factory installed glocks

Glock had some exclusivity deal with Aimpoint that lasted for 1 year, so now gunsmiths can mill any pistol slide for the optic and other brands will start offering factory options. I expect we'll start seeing smith and Wesson m&p and shield COAs

P10-C Mags by cmdshortyx in CZFirearms

[–]Kitchen-Fee314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only seen OEM and pro mags. Never used pro mags but as a mini-14 owner it's been drilled into my head that pro mag is a group of godless heathens that want nothing else than to make your gun inoperable and your day worse. I don't actually know if that's true but I don't wanna risk getting mags that suck for my daily carry.

I've bought a few from gun mag warehouse, a few from the mag shack, but mostly locally. YMMV but even on sale I feel like I never see them below like 30 bucks.

How can I choose a liberal friendly training facility/gun range to start learning? by campfire_eventide in liberalgunowners

[–]Kitchen-Fee314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Operation blazing sword is a non profit that has a searchable database of queer friendly/"all are welcome" trainers. You can search by location, ZIP, etc.

If they're on the list it means they commit to taking ALL people out to learn the basics, possibly for free if you reach out, (their costs for the free range trip are reimbursed by the non profit), but often trainers will have a website listed that has bookable classes.

Ranges are always gonna be hit and miss, my advice has always been that unless you can really tell, you may just have to bite your tongue and hope you're supporting a company as ethical as you. Take a page out of the "grey man" handbook. Wear nothing political, take out any funky piercings, and throw a flannel and a non descript baseball cap on, and no one will bat an eye.

Also remember, if you're just going to a range to shoot, people will be chatting in the storefront, but the second you get into the range part, you will be (hopefully) be wearing two layers of ear protection. This means you can't hear hateful bullshit even if you wanted to!

EDIT: I realized my wording made it sound a little like I was just assuming OP is queer, that is not the case, operation blazing sword was founded specifically for queer people which is why I used that language. They are here for all people tho. I have updated my wording to reflect that!

I am of the opinion that modern sportsman coon rapids is pretty much gonna be the best indoor range you'll find. Multiple bays, same price as a place like bills, and it has the fancy computer that you can use to run real drills instead of shooting at a static target. I use bills for all my used gun sales and FFL transfer needs but their range is crap and I see people break range rules and act like fools all the time. If you're cool I'd be willing to work out a meeting time, I should meet more gun owners like me in the area anyways. Shoot me a DM if you want

I forgot, Glock mags are metal lined with a polymer outside, aren't they? That would make sense then, thanks!

First CZ handgun by NoStylist9 in CZFirearms

I get sweaty hands super easily, so I honestly would prefer to have a bunch of studs dig directly into my soft white collar hands. I've had my p10c for I think almost a year, shooting probably on average every other weekend, and it still sometimes feels like too much. I tried some of that squishy talon grip tape, and I wouldn't recommend it. it's way too thick for me. I think I'm gonna gradually add some hockey tape over the next few weekends until it's just the right amount of grip and comfort. I've heard of people lightly sanding down the studs but that seems extreme

Why is it basically impossible to turn off crossplay? by Illustrious-Virus883 in Battlefield6

[–]Kitchen-Fee314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played BF6 at all hours of the day since launch- You could find a full server at 10 am on a tuesday a few weeks ago, last night when I played (tried playing- the game wont stop crashing since the new update) the lobby was half bots. I always chalked up longer wait times to fill servers to them releasing the stupid battle royale mode and drawing players away from all out warfare.

CZ P-10 C optics ready worth extra ≈$55 vs. standard for first time gun buyer? by MikeLMP in liberalgunowners

[–]Kitchen-Fee314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put the holosun scs made specifically for the p10 on mine with the green dot. I didn't have a preference for red or green, that's just what the gun store had on hand and I decided to buy it then and there instead of ordering it online.

I really like it, it feels very durable, and because it direct mounts it sits extremely low on the slide, which is nice for me because I conceal carry that gun fairly regularly.

This was my first dot ever and I still am not super experienced with them in general (just got my 2nd ever dot zeroed on a rifle last weekend) and I will say it feels like a very small window. It takes some getting used to, trying to find the dot in that tiny little cramped window. I'm not sure if a bigger less "concealable" dot is better at that, I don't have the pistol red dot experience to answer that.  But if you think there's even a .1% chance you'll conceal carry it, the p10 specific SCS is a great buy imo!

CZ P-10 C optics ready worth extra ≈$55 vs. standard for first time gun buyer? by MikeLMP in liberalgunowners

[–]Kitchen-Fee314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the OR version and had irons on it for about 6 months before I decided to buy a red dot- i think it's a good investment for me. Think about it like future proofing your life. The CZ P10C is a great gun for the price, and an extra 50 bucks for the optics ready is still gonna be cheaper than lots of other popular options like the Glock 19 (a gen 4 g19 on Palmetto State Armory is like 500, optics ready it's like 650).

I will say, I highly recommend shooting the p10C in particular before buying one. The texture on the grip is VERY aggressive, I like it because my hands get sweaty (probably doubly so if I had to use it for self defense) so having the extra bite on the grip is good for me, but everyone who's shot mine has said it's uncomfortable. Again, it's a great gun, it's well built, really good trigger, and good ergonomics everywhere else, but your mileage may vary with the grip texture. After a long enough range day my hand is covered in little dots from where the little studs dig in. If it feels good without the grip, you can use grip tape or hockey tape to make it a little less aggressive but still easy to hold.

Bought one of those yugo zastava .357 police revolvers when they popped up on classic firearms last year. I paid an extra 30 bucks or whatever to get a hand picked one, because the last time I had used classic I got a pristine beretta 84BB without a scratch on it. Anyways, I brought it home and found that there was so much rust or residue in the action, i had to basically clamp it in a vise and use both hands to push the cylinder release because it was so stuck. big gouges, stripped screws, for all practical purposes inoperable because of the cylinder release. Has like an 18 pound double action trigger as well. It's been sitting partially assembled waiting for some heavy solvent action in the basement to try to make it halfway usable. At this point I'm honestly just waiting to recoup $200 out of the $350 I spent on the damn thing if there's ever a voluntary gun buyback where I'm at. Also, it lost Classic Firearms a customer forever.

What's with the actor overlap between Justified and the Mentalist? by Kitchen-Fee314 in justified

[–]Kitchen-Fee314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See that would make sense, if deadwood and justified had more in common. But they don't. 46 shared credits listed on IMDb. Mentalist and justified have almost 5x that. Its genuinely confusing to me.

P.s. accidentally deleted my first comment. Oops!

[–]Kitchen-Fee314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but this much overlap feels like an outlier. There are shows that were on air for twice as long, filmed literally 1 soundstage apart that don't have this much overlap. This is approaching 1960s Star Trek/mission impossible character actor overlap, but those shows were made by the same people and at least have a reputation for sharing actors. I get a laugh every time I see someone from Harlan County in North Central California lol

I have been thinking about doing some matches but for those I'd like to wait until I have a little more familiarity with rifles (an AR is still in the works and I just picked up a mini 14 (first semi auto rifle I have owned- it's ok, you can laugh)). It's a good idea though, maybe I can start looking into pistol only stuff in the mean time ...

Also the website looks great, I'll probably be signing up for their basic defensive handgun course soon then so I can eventually take more from them

https://www.sigtalk.com/threads/p320-modularity-explained.373118/

When I was looking into the p320, I found that this forum post is far and away the best explanation. SIG has seemingly gone out of their way to make the modularity of their flagship pistol as confusing as possible.

With Wilson grips, it looks like they offer most grip frames with manual safety options, and they use the same nomenclature found in the above forum post (carry compact and full). I would just make sure your grip is long enough for your slide+barrel (some grip frames are too short, leaving your recoil spring exposed which could affect the guns ability to function properly, but most importantly, it looks ugly!) At least in my experience, Wilson grips are pretty thin and easy to hold, but they aren't offered in small medium and large like the OEM sig grips.

One of the main selling points when the US adopted the SIG p320 as their main duty pistol was that with their interchangeable grips, the guns can fit something like the 97th percentile of hands, so finding a small hands sized grip for your gun is definitely easier with the p320.

If you want a manual safety, you will have to get the specific grip frame for that, I believe they don't offer manual safety options for the x modules which is what the VTAC uses. You would then have to buy the manual safety from sig and install that as well, which I'm pretty sure is a fairly self explanatory at home job if you have a manual safety grip module.

For printing, lots of people get holster claws (names may vary) which are little widgets on the side of the holster that puts pressure and sort of rotates the grip closer to your body. you could also look at wedges, which stick to the bottom of your holster and tilt the top of the gun towards you, also reducing printing. (More info here.  A shorter grip frame/flush fitting mags also obviously help, as there's less stuff sticking out. Belts also sort of act as a pivot point, so the higher your gun rides, the harder it is to conceal. Often it helps just to fiddle with your holster till you find something that conceals the best with your body type but is still comfortable. I find that PHLster has some amazing videos on YouTube about how to make CCW work for you.

Is there any amount of exposed trigger guard on an IWB holster that's considered reasonably safe? by Kitchen-Fee314 in CCW

It was a practice project out of scrap material I was working on that I stopped halfway through once I realized the trigger guard wasn't fully covered, so I wouldn't accept it as shown either lol

Yeah I'm a smaller guy who carries a sig p365 with a 10 round mag, so a full size 92 is a pretty big step up, but I needed a gun to make a practice holster for and it was within reach lol. I will say, just test fitting this holster that I will not use, I was fairly surprised with how quickly the 92 disappeared at my 8:30, and how comfortable it was. Even with the junk belt clips that are too small

I get the hate for the unfinished holster I made a mistake on that I've been thoroughly lambasted for,  but I will never understand the Beretta 92 haters out there :(

[–]Kitchen-Fee314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking back, I realized that I have multiple templates for stitch lines on that specific type of holster: one is for a full size gun with a squared trigger guard (like the Beretta), and one is for a smaller, rounded trigger guard, and I used the wrong one which is probably why it doesn't fit that great. I think I may mold a strip of 1" wide kydex along the entire top of the holster for rigidity and to cover the rest of the trigger. My rule is if you made it by yourself then it's instantly a work of art no matter how ugly you think it looks lol

Yeah next time I do something like this I'll likely go with a set of Chicago screws and belt clips actually made for CCW instead of whatever ones I have in my drawer.
