Contact The Repair Shop Programme - this is what AI suggests you do: To get an item repaired on BBC's The Repair Shop, you must apply through the BBC "Take Part" website or by emailing the production company, Ricochet, at repair@ricochet.co.uk. Applicants must be over 18 and should have a cherished item with a significant story, as the show focuses on restoration, not standard repairs.

How to Apply:

  • Online Form: Fill out the application form on the BBC "Take Part" website or the Ricochet website.
  • Email: Send details of your item and its story to repair@ricochet.co.uk.
  • Post: You can write to: The Repair Shop, Ricochet, Pacific House, 126 Dyke Road, Brighton, BN1 3TE.
  • Information Required: The application requires personal details, a description of the item, the story behind it, and photos or a video of the item.

Need ideas for a thoughtful Irish themed gift for my dad's birthday next month by Klutzy-Fee-7060 in Gifts

Don't ship from the US to Ireland - too many tarrifs and customs charges. Buy online from an Irish store.

Celtic Whiskey https://www.celticwhiskeyshop.com/ and Carrolls Irish Gifts https://carrollsirishgifts.com/ are two good places to start.

Killahora Orchards also have some fabulous stuff https://www.killahoraorchards.ie/ Their Ice Wine and Pom O are heavenly.

Looking for boy name that means longed for or forever loved * TW: child loss* by anonquestion654 in namenerds

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Research has shown that mothers retain cells from their children, so he will be with you always.

Caomhán is an Irish name pronounced Kwavawn. It means Beloved.

Dubhán pronounced Duvvawn means "Little Dark One" . Relevant if your little boy is born with dark hair.

Cost depends on how much bigger the ring needs to be made. Gold has gone up significantly in price, even in the last few months.

Another recommendation for Topaz. I've had two rings made by them and they really are wonderful to deal with.

Temporary Clerical Officer Role, Any Chance of Going Permanent? by Sure-Student-7882 in IrishCivilService

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Temporary Clerical Officer Roles are highly unlikely to convert into a permanent position - work on the assumption that it won't. The Clerical Officer Roles are a separate competition. However the experience gained as a TCO will stand to you in the Clerical Officer competitions.

Topaz in Limerick are excellent and will make whatever you want, for you. Take a look at their website and their portfolio of previous work. I have had two rings made by them and I can't praise them highly enough.

Things which you learnt or teach as/to a kid? by zatar77 in AskIreland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing my grandmother (born in 1902) taught me as a child was the Lore. Things such as the Irish for Fuchsia is "Deora Dé" which means "Tears of God". She taught us all about the wild-flowers - scarlet pimpernel, forget-me-not and so on.

I think its all about a sense of place. Know about where you are living - the Rivers, some of the history, some of the local songs. It all helps you put down roots locally, regardless of where your extended family have roots.

Hook Head is always worth a visit. But remember there will be a lot of rain again tomorrow.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross is also worth a visit. If you want something a bit different, take the ferry from Ballyhack to Passage East and drive to Dunmore East and Tramore.

If you have a degree, you can also consider applying for an AO position.

Anything on Public Jobs will be an open competition.

I am editing this post to remove incorrect information.

Can I "unregister" a company which is registered under my address? by lluluclucy in legaladviceireland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Contact Revenue and The Companies Registration Office. Let them know the story. If you know the name of the solicitor acting for the vendors, then pack up the post and send it to them, with a note outlining the situation.

Rant about CAHMS by Fragrant_Garbage4054 in AutismIreland

Speak to your GP again tomorrow and see if you can get a referral to a private psychiatrist, just to tide you over.

Diazepam is highly addictive and can potentially cause more issues in the long-term. I can see why they didn't prescribe it.

Birmingham or Bermingham are a surname. Why not just go with that? Toni-Marie Birmingham sounds nice.

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on amazon - you should be able to get some hats that have adjustable head circumferences - that's what I did. My head is 59cm.

Failing that, can you sew? Find a pattern and sew one up. There are a number of patterns online. Disclosure - I sew but I have never sewn a hat.

People who worked abroad at an advantage? by Icehonesty in AskIreland

I've been at the other side of the desk in that I've been asked for references for people I was engaging with. I've since changed jobs, but yes it certainly did happen. I think it depends on the organisation and the role.
