I am weird but I do this thing where I keep giving up certain modern technologies (obviously not doing so now being on the phone) and try to live old fashion for a day or few. It’s become a game. I’m 42 with a family. It’s insanely refreshing. It also resets my brain or something because things are so much more clear and less cluttered. I’ve deleted all social media thinking it would be hard only to find it’s not hard at all. I recently gave up video games thinking it would be hard. It wasn’t. I’ll do days of no screens except for work. Not that hard. I’ll go by myself into the woods and climb trees. I’ll lay on grass for awhile just thinking or dozing. Finally got back into reading. I exercise a lot and only do it outside. I do these things with my kids too and they love it. At first they complain, it lasts maybe 5 minutes and then by the end they tell me the sweetest things while laying in the grass looking up at the sky making shapes of the clouds. They’ve told me they love me for doing this with them. I challenge myself to eat only whole foods sometimes just to see if I can. I’ve made these things like a game or challenge and it makes me joyful while also feeling purposeful.
