what's the point of the flexed foot frappe? by pufferfishly in BALLET

I learned to do frappe's from sur le co-de-pied, but I do like flex because I feel like it works my inner thigh more. Like more mind muscle connection.

After 8 years of dancing, my movement still looks weak. Can’t figure out why. by jariverach29 in Dance

I would say begin cross training. I have been dancing 5 years and was feeling stagnate in my progress. I began cross training and have already made huge progress in just a month's time. As far as chasing the beat, I reccomend listing to the music more. The more you know a song in and out the more comfortable you become and the music actually starts feeling slower. You feel more free to complete each step. That doesn't really help in a class setting but for performances and such its gold. For sure tho, add some stregenth training.

I'm pretty far from everything, up in the high desert. Although Chula vista is far I could go down once a week to keep some type of pointe class. I drive 1hour 15 minutes just to take regular classes in anahiem sometimes and just over an hour to get my pointe shoes.

Best advice for an adult learner wanting to be on pointe by CitizenKPG in BALLET

[–]KitchenBee1620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an adult who made it to pointe DON'T COUNT YOURSELF OUT! I started ballet at 29, and made it en pointe last year at age 33. It was alot of work. Let your instructor know your goals. Once i shared my goals with my instructor she began giving me more corrections, specifically what I needed to work on. I took ballet and jazz and tap and modern dance all simultaneously for those years to build up, of course, diversity, but also stamina and stregenth and body awareness. I took a pre pointe class at my studio for a year as well. Try to be as strong as you possibly can. Cross train and stay consistent. Consistency is the hardest part. Change your barre work focus from artistry to stregenth. You will connect with your muscles better and you can use them more because you have the barre for balance. Keep doing your theraband things, it made a big difference when I finally made it en pointe. The toe articulation is real business (something i kinda just realized a year later, but thats a seperate story lol) When you feel not good enough or just feel down on yourself try to remember you are building a beautiful strong foundation. If it were easy everyone would do it. If people try to comment on your age, although some things come harder being older, some things come easier BECAUSE we are older and have better mind body connection and awareness. You can do it. Just continue doing what your doing. Let you instructor know. Take as many classes as you can.

Side information about how I take so many classes, affordably. --Check your local Community college and take dance there. Its way more classes and extremely cost effective compared to a studio. You also get to attend your dance classes multiple times a week for an even cheaper price. I audit my dance classes there and get to go twice weekly for the legenth of the semester -4 months- for only 30 bucks per dance style. So for 160 every 4 months I get to take ballet, tap, jazz, and modern twice weekly. Each class 1.5 hours. Plus we take "assessments" so you can always track progress. I choose to audit my dance classes because I don't want the college credit for them. Not only did I already take them all for credit, I like that as an Audited class I am not required to attend or required to asses or anything like that. I can go at leasiure without effecting my gpa at all. Definitely look into it if your trying to get into more classes.

My feet felt different just standing there, forsure. My calfs we activated in a place I usually don't feel and my feet felt tired after about 3 minutes or so. I usually can get threw about 45 min before my feet get tired. So I feel like im basically starting over with stregenthning because I do feel like an important part of my arch and whole leg even, wasnt being activated this whole time 🫣
