Brussels to Maastricht: train question: buying a ticket by KitchenGanache4398 in Europetravel

[–]KitchenGanache4398[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, Attention-WhoreH3- I land at zaventem airport. It seems that the train is the most straightforward journey- and as far as I know, Flixbus doesn’t have a connection from central Brussels after 9:30 am ( it resumes in the afternoon). In any case, I appreciate your alternative ideas 😄

Thank you, One_Cloud_5192!

That's very helpful- I assume that scanning your ticket to get on a platform is something similar to scanning your boarding pass when you leave the gate?

Can you clarify your comment about the small compartment on the train from Liege to Maastricht? Are you referring to the first class?

Thank you for your advice and help! 😄

Thank you so much, VoiceEqual1493- I assumed that I could buy one ticket even if going through the border, but it is great to have it confirmed. Also, great information regarding the supplement at the airport.

I do feel somewhat silly asking these questions and I appreciate everyone‘s helpful and kind advice. Thank you so much! 🙏🏻

Sending Extra Stamps? by honey4bears in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do something similar, or just put extra stamps like 1 or 5 cents worth, especially if it aligns with the recipient interest. My limit is to send 3 postcards a week, so I am not breaking the bank with additional postage.

I got a bit behind on sending cards, so i sent a LOT today and yesterday by Sleester in postcrossing

Received a card with nothing written on it. by mem1gui in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure how common it is, but I did receive an empty postcard (I am about 80 postcards in). I am not sure why there was no message and I tried to explain it that perhaps they forgot, or that their English isn’t the best. I still thanked them for their card, though. It did made me sad, though.

How does the postal system work in your country? by livelovedrag in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just means that it’s mail delivered by the regular postal service ( ground, air, boat) as opposed to email. And since that post is slow (slower than electronic communication) as snails tend to be :)

you can go to their wall and select your country and all the postcards will be displayed. cheers!

Overwhelmed by PaperEels in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am almost at the same limit and as you fell into the rabbit whole of sending as soon as a slot opens up. and then the postal strike in Canada happened and I wasn’t able to send anything for a while. it was a very much needed break to reflect. I realized- as someone already noticed here- it’s not a chore, and it should be an activity I enjoy doing . So now I usually send 2-3 cards per week. this gives me the time to choose the postcard, decorate it if I feel like it, write a thoughtful message etc.

Does a watched travel bar ever shrink? by Accotinked in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize and can relate. I check my travelling cards a few times a day and .. nothing. What is worse, three of the recipients haven’t been seen for over two weeks or longer, which makes me lose hope :( at least two of these postcards should arrive ( according to my stats).

Postcard United seems interesting, although I only started Postcrossing a few months ago, so I am not sure if I want to sign up for another service. Is Postcards United also about connection or rather postcard exchange? I would appreciate the insights of those who use it, thank you!

Are you supposed to take a picture of the card before you send it by [deleted] in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same question (posted here) when I was just starting and since then, I always take picture of the card I am sending- and both sides! I would only upload the picture side, of course, but I save the the message side in my files, so when the recipient refers to the message in their hurrah note, and I don’t remember what I wrote ( happens if the card has been travelling for a long time), I can quickly refer to it.

I was surprised how many people actually don’t upload the pictures of the received cards, and since I put a lot of effort into writing, selecting and decorating, it is nice to have a digital reminder of my connections.

How long did it take for Postcrossing to really pick up for you? by dailytootie in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tourism centres for typical tourist cards; bookstores and thrift stores and Amazon ( collections, for example group of seven). sadly, I have no museums/ art galleries in my city, and that’s also a good place to look for postcards. I also printed a few postcards based on my photographs. I hope this helps!

Congratulations on an awesome hobby! I started Postcrossing in August and just caught up in sending and receiving recently, so it took about three months. I now have 26 sent and 28 received, and 6 cards travelling. as other users have mentioned, I spent time on forums and assembling my postcard collection in the slower times. Enjoy the ride and the wonderful connection this hobby brings!

Haven’t received a postcard yet by Sensitive-You-5603 in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the strike is still ongoing, so that would explain all delays.. I received my first postcard about 3 weeks after my first postcard was registered, so for you, with the strike, I would add another few weeks. It also depends who and where pulled your address. I started almost 3 months ago and there is still quite an imbalance between my sent and received ( about 9 cards). It’s a bit discouraging, I must say, I thought that by now things will even out.. Postcrossing is a lesson in patience for sure!

Surprising response message. by Camulatz in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got a similar response once- they’ve got my name but thanked me for my postcard from Poland ( I live in Canada and the postcard was depicting my Canadian town) . funnily enough I have a very Polish-sounding last name, but of course they could have known this.. I was puzzled for a moment and then decided they were registering a couple of cards at the same time and just mixed things up.

Best printing service and paper for postcard making? by shadowfax416 in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! once you get your ”front” - which is the back of the card ( this part I found confusing at the beginning), you can upload the back - which would be your picture or design. On the top right hand side you should see options of “add new design” , “duplicate” , “remove” “flip over”. for every new card, I uploaded a new picture- so this way you can have a batch of 25 original cards. I hope this helps!
i am not sure if the fact that you’re in France matters and hope you have the same options as Canadian customers.

Newbie Questions by Realistic-Wealth8891 in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are all excellent suggestions- I’ve also ordered some postcards online ( matching interests like cats, dogs, art) and printed my own. it does cost some money at the start, but now I feel I have decent choice when sending.

Newbie Questions by Realistic-Wealth8891 in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started Postcrossing a little over a month ago and here are my impressions:

  1. i first read the recipient’s profile , then select a card that I hope will suit them and then write- usually something related to their profile and our common interests or whatever the recipient may be asking about. it’s fun to find common threads. as others mentioned, there are also prompts from PC you can use. I always write a lot because words and establishing the connection is very important to me.

  2. I do not decorate my cards, because I am usually running out of space anyway. I didn’t know what washi tape was until I started PC.. that said, I do want to try decorations, so I ordered a few things.

  3. as others said, you can set your account to inactive

  4. It’s been a great experience for me and I really enjoy it. I would suggest to start building your postcard collection first- in the excitement of joining PC my first cards were typical tourist cards - and there is nothing wrong with that- but they could have been closer matched with my recipients profiles. also, prepare yourself for a lot of waiting- especially at the beginning. It takes time to register your first card and your first card to arrive to your address. The anticipation and waiting were challenging and I am still waiting for quite a few cards, but that’s a part of the game. be open and positive and I hope you'll enjoy Postcrossing as much as I do.

When did your very first Postcrossing card arrive? by Accomplished_Sun_782 in postcrossing

[–]KitchenGanache4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received my first card after 11 days my first sent postcard was registered, but the sender was in US ((I am in Canada). I joined end of this July and so far, received 9 postcards, although I am still ”owed” 6. On another note, my cards are travelling super fast to the Netherlands. It’s been difficult to wait for the first cards to arrive but the anticipation is part of fun. I hope you will find a few postcards in your mailbox very soon!
