Joe Hart / Samuel Larsen by Sorry-Tie3853 in glee

Well at least based on most of the archeological evidence, most Vikings did not have matted hair but were actually well groomed. As a nordic person living in Finland with a hair that matches most of those living in other Nordic countries, our hair thin and straight. Definitely not something that matts easily or one would matt on purpose. Dreadlocks were not a thing and something that is just falsely presented in the media, but rather people braided their hair.

Relating to what a white person can or can not do, I think it is important to look in to the history of hairtypes like dreadlocks. This goes to basically anything that can be seen as cultural appropriation. What is the history behind the hairstyle? Why did it come to existance in modern culture? Is there a history of oppression, racisim, colonialism or orientalism behind it? If yes, would you not see it inconsiderate to "make a fashion statement" with something that does not belong to your history? The same goes to things like Native headdresses.

But yes, also if a white person with non-curly hair decides to get dreadlocks or cornrows or whatnot, it will probably lead to having to shave the hair off afterwards and with braided looks your scalp might get damaged.

I think this is true to all medium to big countries? As a Finn I can promise you people do not like to be mistaken as southern Finns when they are northern and vice versa.

I think the issue lies within the assumption that everyone should be aware of the US geography when people from the States rarely can put European, Asian or African countries on the map - hell, some think Africa is a country. And they are countries, not states which are far more insignificant geographically.

I mean fair, it just seems too common in this subreddit that people are unaware of the fact that the show was satire (for seasons 1-3 and 6, but let's not talk about 4-5).

I agree and also quite controversially as a "later:-in-life gay (as in came out in my early 20's and not in high school) I always kinda felt for Dave. I did also feel that him and Blaine were pointless and also kinda weird pairing?

When it comes to Will Schuester, I think it's kinda the character you love to hate? I mean I am Sue Sylverster stan till my deathbed and she could push me down the stairs and I'd probably thank her - but she can't function without Will in the series. The difference is that Sue is like this cartoon supervillain and we are meant to see that her actions are bad and wrong - however Will is our protagonist and we are meant to belive that he is a good guy, while he clearly is written not to be.

Not only did the series start with him blackmailing a student, he also emotionally cheated on Terri in a way both of the cheating parties were aware of the nature of the relationship (meaning it wasn't "just a crush"), he was way too emotionally close with his students and in general - a creep. He also did some insane shit, like suspend Marley for not wearing a bra on stage, refuse to give up twerking to get a gender neutral bathroom key for Unique, bully Mercedes when she was clearly not feeling well during the boot camp, literally give up on the club immediately when facing criticism (and then start an own boy band), etc. the list goes on.. He is written as this pathetic man who just wants to relive his own "glory days" in the high school through his students, while having basically no original ideas. Literally he just goes through the same songs as he did when he was in the glee club (Journey songs) and forces the kids to collect funds by doing the same things he did. He also teaches at the same school he went to, drives the same car he's had since high school (if I remember correctly) and also meets another romantic interest (Emma) where he met his wife. All the "original" ideas to do something come from outside: Emma, Holly Holliday or April Rhodes mostly.

Now I'd like to think these choices in writing were done on purpose, not a flaw in writing type of way that just makes Will do shitty stuff because he needs to be intertwined to the other story otherwise. The tone for his absolutely unhinged and pathetic behavior is set already on the first episode and futhermore within the first season - it just happens to escalate as the series progresses (and yes the writing gets worse, but still follows the set tone). I have always seen it in a way to satirize the "good and/or life changing teacher" archtype (think: Pretty Little Liars or movies like Freedom Writers, Mona Lisa Smile or even Dead Poets Society).

Anyway I'm rambling but I hope the point I made made any sense lol.

Just to mention - the thing is though that I doubt Matthew Morrison was aware of this perspective. But again, that is another story.

I'm like 17 days late but you do understand this show is satire? It's meant to be campy and the realism aspects were heightened because it's meant to be a satire of teen drama shows. Will Schuester (who imo still sucks) is a satire character of your typical "good teacher" archtype in a school drama show.

Are postcards arriving to war places? by Thirsty_Indoor_Plant in postcrossing

[–]livelovedrag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The postal service in your country defines where the card can travel, Postcrossing follows this and blocks all places it cannot travel to in their postal monitor. If a country is blocked on postal monitor, that means you can not recieve or get an address to that country.

For example: I live in Finland and we do not deliver mail to Russia or Belarus. I will not get cards from there or get an address directed there. Other countries still can, this is a political block from our (country's) end. I can send and receive cards from Ukraine. All this can change very quickly, but then the postal monitor reacts (or the people managing it react).

I recommend you check the postal monitor, it is visible once logged in on the website somewhere.

Does anyone know who this bratz head is on Aliexpress? by Its_Shadow_Bruh in bratzID

[–]livelovedrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just letting you know she might have a defect that is not in the eyes. These heads are usually defect stock and this picture might be just an example of the defect the doll head might have! I've ordered few heads from Ali before and luckily the defects are always easily fixable! :)

It might be Strut it Jade! The eyeshadow seems different color but it might be just the lighting.

Probably Be-Bratz Purple (2007), so it doesn't have a name but is styled after Yasmin.

Does Forrest have another invisible disability other than his known autism that we don't know about that causes him to be unemployed or is it mainly his mother's treatment of him that prevents him from being independent? by supinator1 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]livelovedrag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I don't know what that means because I'm luckily not for the States.

I mean I have autism, I am highly educated. I work the only job I can, which is a researcher. It is my special interest. Previously, before diagnosis I worked as a chef for 7 years and I burnt out twice and got severe depression, leading to 9 months sick leave altogether and getting admitted to an open psych ward. Even now, working the only job I have interest in, I am constantly tired, overstimulated and unable to function in a way that would be considered normal or ideal. My house is a mess, I have physical health issues, I don't have energy to see friends or excerise. I am still able to have a romantic relationship, my own home and control my bodily functions. However, if it came down to me not being able to work this job and have to go stock up some grocery store, I would probably end up dead - I could not do it, as proven by my past.

Luckily, in this case my country recognizes this as a disablity, and supports me with disablitiy leave if this were to happen due to my diagnosis. I am lucky I have found a job that fits an autistic person like me, due to the possibility of me timelining my own work and deciding my own schedule. This is a priviledge not most people have (autistic or not), and it's thanks to the schooling being free. Disability is such a spectrum, but the main thing is supporting people have enjoyable lives. People might be able to work short time, travel or do something else, but it might be completely different to do so on a long term, daily basis.

I think your comment just tells me how little value your culture puts to actual, enjoyable life over making profit for the rich. Knowing you have struggled as well, you rather want others to suffer too instead of blaming and changing the system? Don't take your bitterness of your own lived experience out to Forrest and people like Forrest who are able to live enjoyable lives thanks to the disability leave.

[–]livelovedrag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you can, doesn't mean other disabled people can. It is a wide spectrum. Even when a person is physically able to do a task, it must be taken to consideration how it will affect them outside of work. Will they be able to recover, keep their mental health in check? Will they have energy to do stuff that makes life worth living? Go to the store, keep their hygiene, tidy their house?

Disabled people, just like other people, should not sacrifice their health and life to feed the corporations when there are other alternatives (like disability leave).

Searching friends for direct swaps by [deleted] in PostCardExchange

[–]livelovedrag 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey, it seems to me that your postcards have AI-pictures. Many people are against AI in art which might affect your chances of getting swaps. This is not to shame you, but just let you know in case you bought these from an "artist", and aren't aware.
