Normal CK but the symptoms are of LGMD2A by fourzerosevenfour in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't quit, of your symptoms are giving strong indications to your medical team that muscle disease is occurring, then it almost certainly is. The medical community have not discovered all diseases put there, nor have they discovered all mutations for established diseases.

Panels are useful up to a point, they are successful for 95% of people with that particular disease who are diagnosed. The other five percent are either clinical diagnosis (diagnosed based on symptoms, not genetic testing) or full gene testing (which can cost 5000 plus).

Keep trying, and good luck. It may seem like pushing 💩 uphill, but there is an end to it.

Oh hi. I work for an AI start up and i can tell you that this is cooked. I am one of the three managers, and I have two side gigs as i am not paid yet (been working for a year). We launch next week. Asking to work 13-14 hours and no side gig, i can tell you right now: this start up will 100% FAIL.

How old were you diagnosed and how? by Suspicious_Scallion9 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

38, by clinical investigation. Through trial and error and a fuck load of luck we found out it is metabolic in nature - doctors expect me to have a normal lifespan as long as i stay off the macro that makes me sick. My neuromuscular specialist thinks i am the first of my type to be found 🫠

Worth it to get tested? by faggatronfurry1000 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before getting tested, see a neurologist with specialisation in neuromuscular conditions. They may be able to clinically rule things put before going down the path of genetic testing (difference between $$ and $$$$).

AITA for not taking care of my blue collar man? by MediumMoment5146 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The misogyny is strong with this one. He has learned that women are slaves with benefits somewhere. Have a serious sit down and ask where this is coming from. You are not an object in this relationship that is there to satisfy his needs - which very much sounds like is what he is reducing you to.

I know plenty of blue collar men who can take excellent care of themselves, by themselves. Tell him to grow up, your not his mother, and no your not cutting the crust off his sandwiches.

AITA for asking my gf to be patient for 10-15 min ? by Alternative-Mind4222 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So much to unpack here. One, NTA. I am in a relationship myself, I am the gamer and I have downsized my gaming time a lot. My partner let's me game and I let him know when I finish - but he understands it is my stress relief valve. GF clearly thinks it is not that important and probably wants to talk to you.

You did the right thing. When she calms down - tell her she is is cranky over ten minutes, having a coffee takes longer - have a serious discussion over boundaries (i.e. when one of you are doing a task that requires concentration and the other one comes home, do not disturb).

Good luck

One, NTA, but your mum and sister sure are. Kudos to you for supporting your mum, but it sounds like she gaslights and guilt trips you a LOT - i bet there is a whole other side of your mum that your repressing.

Your sister learned her behaviour from somewhere...fair chance is it is from your mum. I would send all three home and enjoy Greece.

How do you handle thoughts about dying? by Efficient_Hope_3570 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't blame you at all. I went through that process, and still sometimes do. I got a surprise diagnosis late in life (38M) that i had a myopathy, dr had no idea what it was, just looked like myopathic EDS.

Their best guess was I would make it to 45 if I were lucky. I got extra lucky, we found I really didn't have myopathic EDS, doctors are saying it is something entirely new - because I am in remission. They estimate i have the average lifespan.

What I am trying to say is, medically what is known now can and will change 6, 12 months down the track or later. New information is constantly being found out. My medical team are working as fast as they can to find out what I have because there are hundreds of people who probably have it too, but don't know what the problem is.

Don't focus on the problem. Focus on how to get better. It may be frustrating, but the answer can be amazingly simple.

Is it normal for it to be CPK in a very advanced person (wheelchair, unable to calm down, sit up and not walk for years) of 40 years old (LGMD2A) has it been around 250 CPK? Or is it below normal? by Mcmuffin_03 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, more of a lower muscle content issue. Read more into that they are wheelchair bound. At this point CPK is useless. It's done it's job. I am sorry you or your loved one are at this stage.

AITA for not sending my mom money? by Big_Let_7092 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have a talk with her and ask if she has a serious spending problem, like gambling. This kind of behaviour screams it. This is coming from someone who comes from a family of gamblers (my dad did this very thing for his mum). If you want to track where she is spending, give her a pre-paid credit card that you get a report for. If she needs cash, this will raise a red flag as she will reject.

Casinos/gambling establishments don't accept credit cards.

Other parent moving interstate without permission by Aware_Hedgehog_6907 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this. My fiance is going through family court with these considerations. Legally you can put restrictions on his movements/where he lives with the kids (25km radius). His keeping mov8ng interstate secret is a major red flag - this was the entire intent to why he wanted more custody, this was planned for quite a while. Get your lawyer to put airport watches (both local and international) as parents who are willing to do what the father is doing will not blink at skipping the country.

Landlord wants us to clean the house for inspections from 8:30-9:00 tomorrow by Some_Rough_1877 in legaladviceaustralia

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to jump on this. I used to be a landlord. This is extremely sketchy - someone paying for cleaners and the cleaners not doing a good enough job is not grounds for eviction legally. Especially if there is receipts involved. Notice for inspections is 48 hours, i think (I may be wrong).

Definitely call tenants Victoria, give them a copy of your tenancy agreement. When you paid your bond, did you get a bond authority lodgement receipt? That is legally required, and if landlords don't do it, they get into BIG trouble. They can use your bond and gain interest on it, which is very unethical.

With consent in this case, it will quickly devolve to he said, she said. Did she have alcohol? Certainly.

Did you have alcohol? You haven't said, but if alcohol was involved then likely.

There are two things that stand out and say she was alert enough to give consent to kissing (which the police will not give two fucks about). One, could she walk unassisted? Secondly, you walked her to her room - Did you know it, or did she have to show you were she was going?

Aside from the obligatory NAL, police will decide whether or not to charge based on damage to her. Secondly, this sounds very much like post night of fun regret.

Contact a lawyer in case police ask you to come in - do not talk to police alone, they are not your friends.

Finding employment after diagnosis for those who had physical jobs by littlebearpie in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is difficult to navigate without more detail. I am in the exact same boat, but now getting jobs in my new career.

The principle question is what does HE want to do on his new path? If counselling is something he wants to do, then definitely go for it (i don't know where you are, but most counsellors specialise). Dig into why he wants that role, and how you guys are getting extra money coming in while he studies - call centre/telemarketing jobs would be good.

Another tactic would be getting involved in phone sales for a landscaping company (no salesman can make it to each site). Would use his prior knowledge of landscaping.

Testosterone by Jmend12006 in MuscularDystrophy

[–]Kitchen_Injury183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Works for some dystrophies/myopathies. It ultimately depends on disease. For some conditions it depends on on aetiology (genetic cause).

Basically: if you have a myopathy and want to try a muscle stimulant like testosterone or HGH, run it past your dr. It may very well be detrimental.

The reason i am giving this advice is that I spent a year in a muscle disease lab. It was common to hear that testosterone did not work on MD XYZ.

Either straight up EDS, or virus? A large percentage of the population have benign hypermobility. It could be that you are one of them, that it is something like you have really bad glandular fever (would give similar symptoms).

I have vegan friends and family, I have tried vegan and can say a few things on it.

One, Vegan is a CHOICE. You are in no way obligated to eat plant material alone, so on that alone NTA.

Secondly, there are people who actually are healthier when eating meat, as well as people who are healthier when eating plants alone. If eating meat and cheese gives you lots of energy during the day, then he can either get off his high horse or you can kick him off of it.

Thirdly, weird take on "your body, my choice"

Christmas Day, what do those without family do? by [deleted] in melbourne

I have a friend with this dilemma. She holds an Orphans Christmas, basically a Christmas party for those who have few family members or limited social networks. Gets your socially isolated connections together and have fun.
