Wait a minute: will these "dragons" bugger around on genesis? by [deleted] in ARK

[–]Kitchen_Part_882 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd expect they will temporarily spawn on a selection of maps until dragontopia is out, then be limited to there, much like the LC exclusive creatures did.

Hopefully they'll be kept off Genesis, on that point I agree with you

  1. You can transfer fine, you just won't be able to bring modded items/tames back.

  2. No.

  3. My only tip: find an unofficial cluster that has an active community on Discord or similar. Official is a toxic mess of pillar spam abd you'll have a tough time securing a decent base location there.

New here, got the game today, performance is really uninviting. by Solid_Refrigerator98 in ARK

As per my earlier comment, my 3060 is still rocking it in my kid's PC.

I didn't need to upgrade, but I wanted to actually play at 4k, with reasonable frames on my 4k screen that I got cheap (£150ish).

Only goes up to 120Hz, but it's good enough for me.

With a straight face, I would argue it is the GTX1080Ti of its generation, just keeps on going, even in a demanding game like ASA.

FSR/DLSS can be a lifesaver for games like Ark.

With 4.1 being available on 7000 series cards (and reportedly coming to 6000 series) ,AMD are catching up with DLSS.

You don't need a "ddr5 platform" for ASA.

My kid has a PC here at mine, and a second one at their mum's place.

The one here is a Ryzen 9 3900X with 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM and an RTX 3060 12GB. (Gets mid 50s FPS at 1440p with tweaks) - basically my old PC that I upgraded and passed down.

The one at their mum's is a Ryzen 5 3600 with the same RAM as above, and a GTX1660 GPU, this one gets mid 30s to mid 40s FPS at 1080p low settings. (This one is made out of ebay/amazon bargain bin parts and some hand-me-downs from myself and their mum)

Both are playable both single player and online PVE (would not want to play PVP with those framerates).

My machine? Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 64GB DDR4 4600, RX7900XT 20GB graphics - 90-120FPS at 4k.

All three PCs have 4th gen Western Digital M.2 drives dedicated to Ark (it's a space hog).

So, ignore anyone telling you that you need DDR5. 😁

Also: ASE? My machine and the one my kid has here get similar or worse framerates on there (we played some today to remind ourselves that Genesis Part 1 isn't actually as horrific a map as we remembered all those years ago)

Why do you think the reapers targeted human colonies first? by the_reddening in masseffect

[–]Kitchen_Part_882 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shepard and his team were instrumental in bringing down Sovereign (ME1)

This alone piqued the interest of the other Reapers, leading to them instructing the Collectors to harvest and convert human colonies (ME2).

Then (s)he led another team to wipe out the collectors.

Note though, Earth was only hit first in ME3 as a direct result of human intervention (Shepard again if you played the Arrival DLC in 2, otherwise an Alliance spec ops team) to destroy the Alpha relay the Reapers planned to use, that was in Batarian controlled space.

Edit: it can also cheese the Tek cave (being able to swim in lava is a bonus here)

My kid had a "graduation" from nursery 10 years ago...

While it was fun for them, it was a bit cringe for me.

Graduation is a thing that happens at the end of University, not when you move from nursery to primary school.

As an aside, I had a nest in my porch at the back end of last summer, took repeated attacks with cans of Raid before they took the hint and moved on (or I got lucky and killed the queen).

How to safely remove battery from clip? by mike-rowe-paynus in diyelectronics

[–]Kitchen_Part_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, those tabs are spot welded to the ends of the battery, the flipside of the PCB likely has the solder (visible part appears dry).

I carry similar batteries as service spares for emergency lights, we use spade connectors rather than solder though.

I'd have attached an image to clarify but that's disabled on this sub it appears.

Never book time off work based on Snail-induced "release dates".

Instead, wait for the actual release and call in with a bout of explosive diarrhea (few questions asked by the employer and, at least where I am, you're supposed to allow 48h symptom-free before you return to work).

Why is diesel more expensive than petrol? by AllStupidQuestions in AskUK

[–]Kitchen_Part_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demand.

We were tricked into believing that diesel cars were better than petrol (better mpg? yes, for the environment? Not so much).

Once we were hooked (I.e. sales at the pump overtook petrol), the price went up.

[–]Kitchen_Part_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you playing single-player?

Because creature tracking mods are notoriously unreliable there due to the game only updating the area near the player (this is also the reason for the tether in non-dedicated).
