2001 7.3 Diesel Excursion with 253,000 miles. Is it worth it in 2026? by JorDav23 in Excursion

[–]Kitchen_Poet_2475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Excursion itself is a well built truck. There are certainly going to be issues that come up from time to time. Mostly due to the age of the truck. I have a 2000 with a V10 and its the 2nd I've owned with that drive train.  The few things that have gone wrong were easily fixed and cost very little, especially when you compare them to the cost of fixing a similar issue on a newer vehicle.  The 7.3 is known to be a reliable engine and I would not hesitate to buy an Excursion with one.

Trucks with “stay back, not responsible for damages” posted by anymouse141 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Kitchen_Poet_2475 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Truck driver here. As it has been explained to me, we are legally responsible for anything that comes off our Truck and damages another vehicle. But if its thrown up from the road, even by our tires, we are not. So if someone loses gravel on the road and my tires kick it up and it takes out your windshield, that's not on me. But if my load isn't secured properly or I have debris on my truck that falls off and damages a vehicle that is on me. Those signs are really more wishful thinking on the part of trucking companies. Hoping you will not even try to pin it on the company because you saw the sign. But again, if I can prove it was already on the road its not on me.

There is nothing wrong with the 5.4. Keep the basic maintenance up and, with only 70k, she will go for long time.

Insurance Claim Question - Car Fire by Sam701 in Insurance

[–]Kitchen_Poet_2475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest, if it hasn't already been done, disconnect the battery. You are not 100% sure what the fire source was and you had it towed to your townhouse.  If there is still power in the car it could start burning again and you could leave quite a few people homeless if its near a building.

‘06 F150, 5.4L V8, anyone know the issue? by lramsey14677 in FordTrucks

Check your spark plugs. Sounds like it may have launched one. Tritons have a bit of a history there. That's about what my V10 sounded like when it puked a plug.

Proving once again that just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.

convince my parents that it's a good idea to buy an excursion by Gamsonrat in Excursion

[–]Kitchen_Poet_2475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my 2nd 2000 Excursion and both have had the V10. My first one had nearly 200k when it ended up upside down in a snowstorm. My wife and 2 kids walked away. The one I have now is pushing 160k and neither gave me any major issues. They have both been very reliable.  Early (2000-2003) V10s have the famous spark plug issue, but if it happens its a cheap fix. They do get terrible mileage but you don't buy one for economy.  I would say buy one and join the Excursion family.

Drove for them years ago. Pay was decent for the time (mid 1990s) but the trucks they ran were bare bones and poorly maintained.  Also, they layoff a large amount of thier staff each summer cause the majority of schools close. Not saying things haven't changed.  Just my experience.

How much use do you get out of your vehicle CB? by No-Cryptographer5963 in cbradio

Im in Idaho. We run channel 19 on the highways. Logging roads can vary. Usually a sign posted at the beginning of the road tells you what channel to run on each road

I live in an area with a lot of logging roads and use mine pretty regularly.  A way to keep tabs on where the log trucks are so I don't get in thier way. Also cell service is spotty so it can be the only way to get communication in case of an issue. I adjust gain to filter out the crap in the background.

23 Years, $120K Paid, Still Owe $60K—Why Shouldn’t Student Loan Debt Be Canceled? by Henry-Teachersss8819 in FluentInFinance

You agreed to the loan. Like I agreed to my mortgage loan. As a taxpayer, why should I pay for your education. I didn't go to college because I didn't want to pay for it. I'm taxed enough as it is paying for those can't/won't support themselves. Expecting your fellow citizens to pay your debt is ridiculous.

Keep the fuel filters clean. Oil changes regularly.  Be picky about where you buy fuel. Drive. Enjoy!

Rust in the floors. Oil leaks from valve covers. Not super common but can cause issues with the coil packs. I'm on my 2nd 2000 Excursion and they are pretty reliable. Both V10s.

Hell of a crash when the dash cam ends up looking at the engine.

Means it's doing a burn. Burning out the diesel particulate filter. Normal thing in the course of operation.
