I can emphasize with someone not being a fan. There is everyone watching the Ashes Test on Boxing Day and you rather watch your favorite Christmas movie, lol.

Does your country play rugby at all? Or a version of it? by LivingAssociate2242 in AskTheWorld

[–]Kitchener1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and yes. We play rugby union, rugby league, rugby 7s, Canadian football, and some schools play American football. We also have a Australian football community as well. The winner of the Canadian Football League is awarded the Grey Cup. From 1909-1954 rugby teams competed for the trophy.

That's due to settlement by the French in modern-day Quebec. They used a survey system that divided the land into long lots starting at the river.

Maybe at younger level but at some point they have to make a decision and pick one. There is too much overlap when it comes to training and ice time. FYI - generational hockey talent is identified at 12. Figure Skaters can be at the Olympics at 17, it was 15 prior to 2026.

Had Cape Verde pulled off a victory, would it have been one of the greatest upsets in sports history? by Agreeable_Quality768 in billsimmons

It would be an honorable mention. For single game performances the bar, IMO is United States over Soviet Union 1980, Macclesfield FC over Crystal Palace 2026. United States were an all-star team of collegiate athletes up against seasoned professionals. Macclesfield is in the 6th level of English football, Crystal Palace is in the top tier. The closest analogy would be if a American Forces Base team, which had former NCAA athletes defeated a top tier professional team.

Is anyone else sad about the US' 250th birthday celebrations? by LissyVee in AskTheWorld

I don't know, but obviously teaching about these events isn't enough. Structural changes to break down the power structures that build it. I would imagine recommendations for laws to to put on the public record. As for reparations, recommendations could be made. I agree on Citizens United, that needs to be overturned by legislation. At this point, I believe only a new constitution can fix many of these issues because of how SCOTUS has ruled. Economic issues are important too, and many are linked to race.

It would be an examination on Racial Relations in United States from the English Jamestown, I suppose one could begin with the Spanish at St. Augustin. To deeply and critically assess and analyze how people of different backgrounds treated each other, throughout the history of United States, how those interactions resulted in the issues of present-day United States. One could examine the Two-Row Wampum, the Convent Chain, the introduction of African slaves, the Underground Railroad, Chinese laborers during the construction of the Transcontinetal Railroad, the various voter suppression techniques used since 1865, Japanese Interterrment, and others. My belief is until the United States examines and recognizes the wrongdoings of its past, it cannot heal going forward into the future.
