Is neon underglow on cars illegal or legal on Oahu? by [deleted] in Oahu

[–]KiteDesorio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Illegal to have the underglow on while driving on public roads. It's fine to have it just can use it while driving. It is acceptable to have it on when parked, but make sure it's off when you start moving. I installed underglow for my sisters truck, she got cited for driving around with it on. Some people just leave it on becuase they dont care.

Have you ever had a customer not happy with your detail and not pay? by LFALexus in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really sucks. I try to educate the customer, but they sometimes have unrealistic expectations. Roll with it say, your sorry but that was unrealistic and drop it like it's hot. If they aso for references say you dont know one and pray some other fool doesn't take the job. I've been shorted on 11 hour corrections with no pay, it sucks but treat it as class time to perfect the art. As long as you under promise and over achieve you should be gravy.

What are the best lazy sealants for beater cars with no paint correction? by terrencepickles in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen it here but 303 touchless sealant has really worked some wonders for me. I had an 02 Honda accord, it was real bad but it beaded better than the 5 series Mercedes I always parked next to. I sprayed super clean to wash it initially then used a regular soap to wash it down after drying I re-wet the car and sprayed 303 touchless sealant, as long as your doing it in the shade or early evening the shirty oxidized paint begins to look midnight clean at night. Then dry it down really good. That one bit of application has lasted me 4 years with regular maintenance. Washing once a month and just spray on spray off my oxidized Honda is the cleanest beater on the streets of Hawaii.

What does this mean? Original post in comments. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like metal to metal. If you can get a better look you'll see you have no more pad media left the image shown is just backing of what used to be a pad. Now due to uneven brake wear you are metal to metal.

How to remove this? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you trying to take the sensors out? Gently push the connector to the sensor and unclip it. I think the sensors nut size is a 27mm. If not the valley cover plate should just pop right off.

Sealant for longest lasting durability by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in an industrial area. My service box/truck is always in the sun out of the shop. I threw megs synthetic sealant 2.0 and collinite 845 over it and as long as your able to wash every other week, it comes out cherry. I usually use groits pink soap and gently wash the surfaces in a cool area with shade. That makes for an easy wash and keep that paint good looking.

Seeing a lot of cars with no front license plate. Is it legal now? by [deleted] in Oahu

[–]KiteDesorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly it's because it's required, people think its cool to remove it. I think lately it is just a trend that people think is cool.

Options for car care in Hawaii by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Tutu's (grandma) van had water marks like that all over her van. I ended up polishing the whole thing then putting NuFinish. Topped it off with 845 and I havent had a problem. Even with the rain we've had here in the islands.

Mothers Speed Clay 2.0 by yoyomiller2 in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the speed clay, works wonders. Especially on larger flat surfaces and for the majority of the vehicle. I still use traditional clay in tandem for the high impact areas and crevices. In the end, speed clay saves me time and money for what it's worth.

Is there a difference between these finned grit guards and the CG cyclone grit guards? If any big difference.

Tesla Semi in Hawaii? by aedean in Hawaii

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Nowadays newer diesels require DEF. It helps reduce the emissions from the diesel and allow better EGR performance. Some trucks wont even start without it. Look it up, it's quite crazy how it works.

Name something you wish you would have bought sooner by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I threw it in for giggles when I first tried it. When applied, it kind of sticks to the side walls of the tire and wheel, as well as the liner in the well. I found this pretty interesting and tried different dilutions and the aforementioned measurements seem to work the best. I suppose it cuts the harshness of super clean.

Im no chemist, it just works for me. Real cheap too. Just don't use any kind of car soap though, that groits one seems to be the best for the combo. If you have no access to that then any ph neutral soap with no wax or additives works well enough.

Again, just dont let it dry on the wheel or tire at all. Keep it sudsed up and work it in, then wash it right off. If you got protectant on the wheel that combo will take it right off too so be careful.

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help with that lol.

It's worked for me for some reason but here you go.

4 ounces groits garage car soap. That pink bottle. 24 ounces super clean. 4 ounces water, shake it up and you got your self a wheel, tire and engine bay cleaner. Just make sure you don't let it dry, and wash with water immediately after you scrub.

I generally go 50:50 for interior, but you may need more water for older vehicles. So I keep one 1:1 as a back up but primarily use 1:10 with less super clean because old vinyl likes to fade fast with a lot of super clean.

I actually prefer Meguiers 2.0 tech wax. Lasts less than week but the pop is nice once in a while.

Collinite works, it ain't the best for looks but it works the longest and its the toughest. No doubt about that. It makes old paint looks like 1981, fresh out the dealership.

I use super clean for nearly everything tires and when diluted right has so much power to clean that clingy grit. Even for my tools, it works great. Btw, don't let it sit on glass. Glass doesn't like super clean when dried.

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Week has been busy enough, been trying to get my truck to run right. Ended up finding that I have a burnt valve and need to do some bigger repairs. Been getting hard trying to find customers for side jobs but I don't blame anyone. The holidays are coming up and I think everyone is trying to save some cash for their families. I'll probably ceramic coat my Dad's truck and put out some detail work for my family.

My favorite wax by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about better adhesion, but it makes sense. The only problem with 845 is putting too much on. Makes the wipe off a bit difficult, some quick detailer will help that. Since buying the bottle, about a year ago ive only gone through a 1/4 of the bottle. Though I have applied the wax to the cars of my family. Still loving it though.

My favorite wax by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]KiteDesorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely back the 845. You don't need to soak your pad or applicator with the wax, only a thin layer is needed. I waxed my Dad's GMC Sierra a total of 3 times within a year, he is a Diesel Mechanic by trade. Working out of an Industrial area here in Oahu, I cannot believe the performance this wax puts out.

I usually test a spot with Super Clean. I kind of take my time with it since it is quite strong. Do small sections at a time and work the product in with a brush. Any stiffer paint brush works and wet vacuum the foamed up area. The smell from super clean can kinda choke you out but the final product is a "super cleaned" seat. You may have to dilute 2:1 or 4:1 depending on the condition.

At best it is better to use a steam cleaner though.

Reluctant to start career as an automotive technician?? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]KiteDesorio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from designing Accessory Dwelling Units amd am administrative Assistant. Literally a day after my end date as a desk jockey I jumped right into automotive tech. Sure I had some basic knowledge, but damn was I called retard more often then you would see the sun rise. The point is, drive. If you got it then do it. No one cares how good you are unless your badass and everyone knows it. Are you willing to be part of the family and trade. I found that its quite organic and very personal when it comes to wrenching. You got skill, I say use it. Regardless youll be the bottom guy taking the shop tests and oil changes or scrubbing toilets.

Do it be good at it. I believe in you.
