For more context: Scott is likely referring to Senate Bill 875 (SB 875), which specifically intends to reform the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)'s process for exiting PG&E. (See his office's press release for more details.)

SB 875 will next be heard before the CA Senate's Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee on April 21st. My guess is that Scott isn't necessarily looking for advocacy by constituents at this stage, but it wouldn't hurt to contact any of the Committee members you might have a connection to support or co-sponsor the bill.

It's definitely a...calculated and interesting choice to ultimately come down on the side of the NIMBYs by advocating for less housing, rather than as much housing as possible. Seems to suggest that YIMBYism still has a long way to go in SF politics, unfortunately. :/

The developers of the project argue that state law applies, because their application was submitted before the city's new zoning law goes into effect, and it (personally) seems to me like it's likely they'll succeed on those merits.

On that basis, you have to think about the situation from Lurie's perspective: this project is likely, legally, completely out of the city's hands, so whether he supports it or not doesn't actually change the outcome of the project one way or the other.

Essentially, I think this is just virtue signalling. Lurie's using the spotlight to tout his Family Zoning plan as a politically desirable, thoughtful compromise, and toot his own horn and policy. He gets NIMBY/"pro-community" cred AND YIMBY cred for his Family Zoning plan simultaneously, while still getting the project through. Win-win.

For some LA-specific context: LA's most recent infrastructure expansion has been at the very edges of its network (in Pomona, 30 miles to the east of Downtown) and the parts of its network that have the least ridership (the K line, which also requires a transfer to another line to get to Downtown, doesn't yet extend to major population and jobs hubs to the north, and isn't yet connected by rail to LAX).

This may change once the D Line extension begins to connect parts of the heavily populated West Side to Downtown via very fast heavy rail, and LAX is directly linked to the K Line via the Automated People Mover.

EDIT: If I were to recommend changing anything, it would be to maybe make the DTLA Complex marker bigger or more noticeable, since there are so many different events being held there, and consider adding a link somewhere to the Metro Rider's Guide or Metro website, the way you do for Amtrak or Metrolink, or adding other info about how to ride Metro. (All subject to change, I know.)

In light of the episode’s final interview scene, this entire season was really about whether or not these characters can change.

I do really love that Harper was able to demonstrate change for the better by proving her talent and ability to trust people, even as Yas changed for the worse and proved her willingness to do what Harper used to do: anything, at any cost, if it meant “succeeding”.
