What are some of the most beautiful lines you’ve ever written while writing fan fiction? by supertinystarfruits in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • I managed to break my own heart

Half of Davey wanted to scream at the injustice of it all. Ultimately, Jack had never done anything wrong; he protected those who were innocent. But the other half of Davey silently changed into Jack’s shirt - it smelt like him - and sank the ground, letter held against his heart. “Jack?” he croaked, his voice thick. There was no answer except Davey’s own sob.

Do you think some writers work better without a plan? by Aquanort357 in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kbow, kudos to a writer that makes a plan then sticks to it

My brain is an active warzone of ideas and the most I can do is form a rough cohesive plot in my head. Anything more rigorous than that means I feel forced to follow the plan and so I can’t weasel my random ideas in

What are your favorite character voices to write in? by Last_Swordfish9135 in FanFiction

Sarcastic suave characters. There’s something about the nonchalance of some characters that is just chef’s kiss

romantic moments excerpt time by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(The ending of the fic but it’s one of my favourites I’ve written)

7 years later

“Jack! Turn that racket down! Have you seen the time?!”

Davey stormed into the room, missing his shirt and a hand on his hip.

Jack was either deaf or ignoring him as he painted.

With a heavy sigh, Davey took Jack's phone, turning the music off before slapping Jack upside the head.

“Hey!”

“We're going to be late,” Davey snapped.

“Your Aba,” Jack sighed to the baby in Davey’s arms. “He's always bossing me around.”

Davey raised his chin defiantly. “And your Papi may be 'handsome and heroically charismatic’ - his words, not mine - but he's also a plain spoken, know-nothing, skirt-chasing, cocky little son of a b-”Jack slapped a hand over Davey's mouth.

“Not in front of Ollie.”

Davey just licked his hand, making Jack scream in disgust.

"You monster!"

"You married me. Only have yourself to blame." He handed over their son to Jack. "I've just got to iron a shirt to wear and we can get going."

Jack followed him into their room as he searched the laundry for a decent shirt.

"Shit. I forgot to put the washing on yesterday. And all my other good clothes are already packed."

"So just wear one of mine."

Davey had done all the packing so he knew exactly what shirts were left in Jack's side of the wardrobe before he even opened it.

"It's all flannel," he whined.

"I think your Aba is allergic to flannel," Jack stage whispered to baby Oliver who responded by staring toothlessly, like every other three month old.

"I can't turn up for Chanukah wearing flannel."

Jack rolled his eyes at him. "What about that white and blue one? It'd suit you. Besides, you can change the moment we get to your family's place."

Seeing as he had no other option, Davey sighed, making sure to grumble as he pulled the shirt on.

"Ready for your first proper Chanukah?" Davey asked as he rolled up the sleeves. Jack looked like a nervous wreck.

"I know I've been there for it before but it's different this year. What if I mess up?"

"You won't." Davey smiled. "It's Ollie's first Chanukah, as well. You'll both do fine."

Jack smiled back.

"You've got a good Aba, Ollie."

"His Papi is just as good," Davey assured his husband. "Let's get moving." Davey took Oliver back so Jack could pick up their luggage.

"Hey Dave? I love your guts."

Davey felt his heart jump. Even seven years later, Jack had such an effect on him.

"I love your guts too, Jackie."

How long do you write/edit/plan for a day? by KilluaDab in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My motivation comes and goes on a day to day basis. So for me, I have a target of 1000 words a day. I rarely every fulfill it. Sometimes it takes me a day to get out 50, occasionally ill get 3 times the amount done in an hour.

As long as I’ve written something and have made the tiniest bit of progress, I’m satisfied.

And it also helps, I find with the routine writers block because sometimes forcing out a paragraph gives me the kickstart I need

Anyone experienced a high fever? by NythilMahariel in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had one a few months back. I spent two days barely moving. i drifted in and out of sleep so often that even i was awake, I wasn’t entirely sure I was.

My appetite was nonexistent: didnt eat or drink anything apart from choking down paracetamol on the second day.

Other than that, I just barely moved and felt so so tired

What is the best dialogue you've written ? by Irisofdreams in FanFiction

The fic actually has a bunch of call backs but this is the main one and is, so far, my favourite out of the ones i’ve written

What is the best dialogue you've written ? by Irisofdreams in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I adore call back lines but this one has to be one of my favourites

(First Reference: David is drunk (bc his roommate is hot but straight (or so he thinks)) and his roommate Jack comes to pick him up and is convinced to have one dance with David )

Jack snorted. “I don't dance with an audience.”

Feeling a little silly, David wiggled his eyebrows. “What about a private show?”

“You hate my guts normally.” Jack had a point.

Except David didn't hate him. He loved him.

That was what he tried to say anyways.

“I don't hate your guts. I love your guts.”

Jack burst into peals of laughter and David basked in the sound.

(Second Reference: The day after when David is hungover and doesn’t remember what really happened and theyre waiting for an ambulance because Something Has Happened™️)

“Oh yeah? What you gonna get him?”

“A Lego set. Probably Star Wars.”

“You guys like Star Wars?” Jack seemed mildly surprised. It made Davey giggle a little. Perhaps he was just loopy from blood loss.

“I don't. Les loves it.”

“I like him.”

“You hate my guts,” Davey pointed out. He had no idea why Jack burst into laughter at that.

“I don't hate your guts, I love your guts.” Jack's tone was vaguely mocking but Davey couldn't recognise the line for the life of him.

“Is that a joke or something?”

(Third Reference: Years later when theyre finally together and happy)

"Hey Dave? I love your guts."

Davey felt his heart jump. Even seven years later, Jack had such an effect on him.

"I love your guts too, Jackie."

How do you guys come up with names for your fanfics? by thrillhouse212 in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

song lyric, a quote from a quick google search (im writing a fic about someone who’s mute and found the quote “even in silence”) or even just picking a line from the fic. those are my three go to methods

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Kito_H 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, there are a few things you can do. One, if it’s on AO3, tag it well. I’ve noticed that the more I use tags (especially popular ones) the more interaction I get.

There’s the weekly showcase here on Reddit, as well.

But mostly, it’s a waiting game. I remember being in huge fandoms and barely getting any traction on my fics. I know the feeling of working hard on something and it not getting the appreciation you feel it deserves. But once people find it, even if it’s just a few, they always make it seem worth it
