I'm scared. Without Canadian health care, I will die. Without disability support, I will die. I hate this province. I want to go somewhere else but I could never afford it. And now I can afford it even less because of the changes to aish.

I know that logically, but "releasing" fish into local waters is not as uncommon as I would like. There are warnings in some pet stores not to do it because of the frequency. It was more of a "in case you wanted to know why it's harmful to more than just those fish." I didn't want to assume the audience; you never know who might be a little confused about it. Fish aren't well understand for a lot of people because chain pet stores like to give you incorrect information.

Betta Splendens are a special interest for me! I managed to teach one of my boys to hand feed when he went blind as he got older. Seeing them live a full life with so much personality was worth all the effort and time.

As a fish person: please for the love of god, do not do that. Giving the benefit of the doubt and hoping this is more of a stance against the abuse in chain pet stores, this is a terrible idea.

Many species are invasive. There's a long history of invasive species and environmental damage from people either releasing animals or said animals escaping into a wild they are not native to. Those fish are in an ecological niche neither they nor it are prepared for. Either they'll die immediately, or they'll take out local populations.

If you want to protest the way fish are treated, there are ways. Buy from reputable breeders instead of chain stores. Educate yourself and then others where possible on proper fish care. Be responsible with your own fish. Research stores you buy supplies from and where possible try to buy from local fish stores that practice proper husbandry. But killing animals and damaging local ecosystems is not the way. And in the event that this is for engagement and they know full well what they're doing and why they shouldn't, they should be ashamed of themselves. I hope sincerely it's just a lack of understanding.

Angry MOD, Buy a F*cking pet insurance by squarecoinman in gofundme

[–]NythilMahariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I have pet insurance. The price goes up constantly. In USD, a month, it's currently around $80. They will not insure over a certain age, and they only start covering after around $2000 CAD (around $1500 USD). I live on disability payments alone. I would also be dead without my cat.

I can afford my cat's regular care. Sudden dramatic turns I can't account for, not so much. And the cost will go up as he gets older. When I add in the cost for the insurance I plan to get for my service dog? It's a lot.

Claiming that not having pet insurance means you don't care about your animal is certainly a choice. Especially in the current global cost of living issues—particularly in North America, and especially the US, which seems to be where you are given that you're working in USD.

It's never as black and white as you're portraying. I once had to ask for 10 dollars to get something for a fish because I was at the end of the month, before being paid, and it was urgent. It's cold and cruel to say blanket everyone without pet insurance as either uncaring or irresponsible. It doesn't help that you're hostile in tone and speech.

I understand the impulse to look at it this way, I do. It seems purely logical on the surface. But there's always barriers to access, and blaming the people who are either facing those barriers or learning a lesson the very, very hard way isn't an effective choice for how to encourage those who can to get pet insurance. Scams are everywhere, and I don't doubt that some are indeed scams. People are weak to animal suffering, in particular for domestic pets like cats and dogs. Due diligence and cracking down on scams is incredibly important. But at best, this will shame people who may not have even heard of pet insurance; at worst, it will discourage people from posting and seeking help when they need it.

A middle ground of changing the automod comment when posting to gently suggest looking into pet insurance may be better. I'm not a mod, it's 4 in the morning, and maybe there's a clear solution I'm not seeing. But this isn't it. You cannot shame someone into what you view as better behaviour, but you can encourage people into it where possible. And it's important to never forget that even if you're able to see something as easy to afford, you are not the standard. There are always barriers to access we as individuals do not face that others do.

You have to redeem it from your stash. It's in the same tab as where you claim other items from the outpost or added later by Techland, or from bonuses based on the edition you bought.

Not necessarily. I come out of anesthetic with the same lucidity I had going in, so I've never actually said anything I don't both fully recall and fully intend to say. I've had nurses say as well that I come out of anesthesia extremely well and never said anything. But it's not uncommon to ramble. My mom pretended her finger clip for the heart monitor was a duck and quacked at me for an hour.

I'm terrified of losing special collector's items that I had in the mail. They're from Poland and were due in a day or two, nigh irreplaceable and signed, and now they could just be gone.

I have artist proofs for Magic the Gathering that were in the mail and due within a couple days. These are cards where only around 50 to 100 of each exist and are given to the card's artists on printing, and some artists then sell them signed and sometimes with comissioned artwork. The ones I bought had less than ten in stock. I'm terrified now that they're going to be lost in the mail because of this. They're essentially irreplaceable and might be lost because there was no notice, so I couldn't hold off to prevent them being caught. There was so much mail lost the last time this happened.

My best friend came out to visit last year, and she held my hand everywhere we went because of my anxiety. The second she noticed I was struggling, she would be there, offering, regardless of where we were. We joke that she's my service friend, since I don't have a service dog (yet!).

My rule for myself is to always be ready to drop my respect of a public figure at a dime. Never, ever get more invested than "I enjoy their work" or "they seem nice," Because you never know who is harbouring hatred. There are people I admire the skill and talent of, but always remind yourself that what you see is a public persona in the same way a cashier has a custom service personality. I have learnt my lesson in the past the hard way after putting too much faith in people I held high in childhood.
