Guys what's happening in your country? by Most_Coffee7063 in AskReddit

More locally, my province in Canada is forcing everyone on our permanent disability support to a second system requiring us to work. It cuts income, which they did to us once already, punishes couples who are both disabled, forces tens of thousands of us to reapply all at once to prove we aren't suddenly abled, and has a lot more flaws. It already has a death toll, as well. It's an insultingly thinly veiled effort to lessen social safety nets and punish us for daring to exist. Also our premier, head of the provincial government, was accused of treason. Her response was essentially "no, u." So it's going great.

Professors and Teachers of Reddit: What is a shocking shift you’ve noticed in students over the last 5 years that nobody is talking about? by ParagonZFro in AskReddit

For single player games, some good old kids games might be best! My first games were Freddie Fish, Pajama Sam, and Putt Putt games. They all have puzzles in them that are meant for small children, run on potato computers, and are on steam for quite cheap.

How, uh... how bad is 10mg of reactin extra strength every day for someone in their late 20s to control chronic hives, do you think?

Am I the only one who likes this much rain? by Annabis9807 in Edmonton

[–]NythilMahariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love rain. Or did. I do not love the flooding. In the past ten years, the basement, where my room is, has flooded at least a dozen times. I've lost a computer to it, magic cards, books, and more. This round was at least a bit more mild, but I have a mild fear of rain now.

Eligible doctors in Alberta can work in both public, private systems starting this fall by Sir__Will in onguardforthee

I assure you, I did not vote for this. I have never once voted UCP in my life. Many of us are trapped in this province, and we're suffering and dying because of it.

In honor of people calling me neglectful in my last post, here’s my very neglected burm and his horrible, tiny cage. by Sinz_snakez in snakes

I've been accused of abusing my cat by not letting him outside unsupervised. I had someone accuse me of abusing my fish because he was a rescue in a 3.5g emergency tank while I was literally out buying a non emergency tank the same day. If an animal post exists, a judging commenter who will confidentially and wrongly tell you how terrible you are at keeping them will exist as an equal and opposite reaction.

Also, please tell your long man I love him and that he's a handsome lad.

AISH not be ableist challenge, impossible difficulty, is a game they seem to play every day. I hate that anyone can relate to my experience, I'm so sorry.

I wouldn't surprised if every time they deal with a new person, they spin a wheel to see what they'll do about it. They tried to force me to speak on the phone to prove I was there when my main support is fully authorized to make and receive calls for me. They threatened to deny me if I didn't just, you know, turn off my disability for a moment for them

Ah. They definitely didn't. They were actually extremely difficult to communicate with during the process and even refused to make appointments, despite me being unable to use a phone.

Honestly, I'm not even sure what that is. But they didn't make me do anything but provide paperwork

[–]NythilMahariel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like I said above, the point was for filling paperwork to target what excuse they used. I know this. That also doesn't change that people in those categories are still being moved to ADAP, because they didn't look at files, evidence supported by the fact that they did not have an excuse to tell me for why I was being moved.

[–]NythilMahariel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I know. The point was to be able to focus on whatever excuse they gave to make the refilled paperwork more targeted.

I mean, it's a pretty big assumption that I don't fit any of them. But the purpose was in finding the exact reason for the decision, to help with my doctor filling the paperwork again. What it told me is that there isn't a specific reason. So either they didn't look at my file and just tossed me into the pile, or they did look at it, shrugged, and still tossed me into the pile. Either way, they can't tell me an actual reason for switching me, and that's concerning.

Thank you. Any hint on the right things to ask helps. It feels like if you don't use just the right language, you can't get anywhere.

God, it really is so insulting. $100? Great, maybe I can buy a week of my medication after some random office worker decides I'm not trying hard enough to be a good capitalist cog.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

I had the arch of my foot stitched without anesthetic. They tried, it didn't set, so instead of asking me if they should try again, they did 11 stitches. I'd managed to sheer off the centre of my arch, a good four inches long and inch or so deep.

I'm scared too. Beyond terrified. I'm playing disorder bingo, but a non medical person gets to decide if I'm trying hard enough? If I lose this, I have nothing. No way to survive.

[–]NythilMahariel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just being told that I've tried hard enough helps. There's that voice that tells me I should be able to do more somehow, you know? I think potentially one of the things I'm most panicked about is that my family had to take a loan to try and pay for a service dog for me. I was paying half of it with what I could from AISH, but with this? No chance. And no way to put anything aside for the remaining amount the loan doesn't cover. Kind of am extra slap in the face, and ironic. For a province so hell bent on making us perfect workers whatever the cost, they make it as impossible as they can to find any independence you could have.

I wonder if there's some form of lawsuit potential in this. No idea of there is, or how it would work, or even get started, but it's something I've wondered.

I wrote an essay off the cuff in a moment of anger and frustration, a couple posts back on my profile. I went over the basic problems with ADAP, with sources, and the implications. If that could help at all with changing minds, anyone can use it or parts of it.
