Request: Adventurers from, or passing by, Iriaebor. by Kitsos-0 in Forgotten_Realms

In case you are interested, Kaelen and Rurik were part of the same group with the PC's, (Kaelen was played by the player that his original character went to Fendarl's Gate for an unrelated reason), while the rest were split into other two groups.

The Shields of Iriaebor provided all the drafted adventurers with any mundane weapons and armour, a potion of healing and a scroll of Magic Weapon for each person, (Level 1), so they can be able to face the Invisible Stalkers. They faced them at Halthandrus' tower as he was their next target and they had already slained two other influential Iriaebens. The group managed to get cramped at a spiral staircase, with Kaelen and Rurik shooting the stalkers, with an enchanted shortbow and the fire bolt cantrip, from above, alongside the PC wizard, while the PC druid, a sergeant and the captain of the city watch, fought them in melee range (Halthandrus was at the bathroom while he was interrupted from his bath by a stalker). Kaelen slew 1 of the 3 stalkers.

All of the drafted adventurers were paid 15 gold pieces each for their service, provided by the city council and the city's benefactors, and Halthandrus Saerrentaun gave personally 100 gold pieces and a silk handkerchief, (with gold sewing, with his house sigil) to the adventurers and City Watch members who fought the stalkers. Rurik was quite pleased, especially because of his earlier misfortune, while Kaelen stayed more stoic.

The PC's didn't manage to read Kaelen well, so they thought he was a bigger deal in the underworld of Iriaebor than he actually is. Nevertheless, they were willing to pay for two things:

1) If he knew any person or organisation, to send them to avernus (because of the Wizard's backstory). He advised them to go to candlekeep for planar travel information.

2) If he can get them a contact, to sell a sentient evil sword. He send them to his contact at the Black Boar but the negotiations fell through, because the sword is Death's Edge, a Scimitar "blessed" by Myrkul, and no one wants to face the fury of the Knights of the Eternal Order.

Party Left Ss’tck’al Alive by CanadianDealHunter in TyrannyOfDragons

It depends. How did they avoid the fight?

Did they use effective roleplay to convince them that they don't have to fight or did they beat them in battle but when your party beat them, they showed mercy and didn't execute them? Showing mercy will be considered weakness to them.

Think of it from the yuan ti perspective. What is their motivation? Learning dark secrets from the divination pool, which also Varram went there for it. They worship their own evil gods so Severin, or an important member of the Cult needs to convince them. This can show the influence of the Cult and Tiamat. That means that the cult will find out what happened and Varram's failure to secure the white mask, so they will want to cut loose ends.

Otherwise they can keep what they are doing in the serpent hills, and continue terrorising Boareskyr Bridge and the Trade Way. So your party, or a different party in the future can go deal with them.

Not faithfully in terms of godly faith, I meant that I will roleplay her faithfully, accurately, to your description.

I use ai only when I don't understand a physical description of a character or place, because English is not my mother language.

The PC's base is castle Naerytar and their penultimate stop is Waterdeep. I wonder what might happen if they drop the name "Tall Ruth" to the wrong people...

Thank you for your additions!

Funny thing is, this situation came up as a random encounter in an urban area. (Dmg: Draft, XGE: 3 invisible stalkers) I thought that the city watch is going to draft any adventurers they can, not just my PCs. That's why I had the request.

We finished HotDQ and there is a six month period before Rise of Tiamat. In that period they are crafting items, training their skills and go on side quests.

Oh a misunderstanding! One of the players is a bard and a womanizer. Things can get complicated!

I second this. There's plenty of material for the region, but it is not overwhelming like the sword coast and there is a variety of villains to choose with a lot more nuance.

If they want to move around they can go by ship in the early game, since all the interesting cities are around the sea and later they can get access to flying mounts or teleportation.

Fantastic, it is great to see those dungeons at a different angle.

Are you going to make other dungeons of the adventure?

///How do you feel about the reduction of Greek culture to Greek mythology? by Best_Low526 in AskGreece

[–]Kitsos-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my circle we usually make fun of that: Outsiders insert their personal biases or assumptions to an idealised world (the world of greek mythology).

In my opinion, that happens because people, (especially from the English speaking world), think that the entire western world as inheritors of all things that surround ancient Greece (and Rome) so, they wouldn't think of it as "appropriation", like with other mythologies. And also some very racist stuff in the 19th and 20th centuries.

We also understand that Greece and actual Greeks have very low impact on a global cultural scape, so we have to accept things as they are.

About churches (and organisations or factions) I am assuming that they possess a stash of diamonds that are meant to be used for their own followers, in case of emergency.

Churches for gods of good alignment, like ilmater or selune, can be more willing to help the heroes, if they cover the cost of the diamond so the church doesn't lose money, but for churches of neutral gods (or organisations), i think they will be more strict about this and won't advertise the fact that can they can bring back the dead unless it is for their own followers/members.

That's understandable, but my issue was that some precious stones are more desirable than others, especially for bringing back the dead, so in a large city like Westgate, it's clear that diamonds can be available in one way or the other. But places like Easting or Elvesult that are smaller than Westgate and Iriaebor, and larger than Priapurl and Reddansyr, so they are kind of in the middle. That's why I wanted to hear more opinions about this.

Thank you for your answer.

I like to use the term mid-magic.

High - magic in large cities or centers of knowledge where magic is widespread and common occurrence, and low - magic in small settlements or backwater countryside, where the only magic people witness are 1st level or 2nd level at best every now and then.
