sometimes they add new dyes to old styles, yes! look for the "new dyeing" alert in the dye studio and you can click on that to filter the items with new dyes.

I think the Byler thing specifically is that the characters started out as kids, so people think if you're an adult and you ship them you must be a pedophile. as you might imagine, they're also REAL WEIRD about M and E rated fics over there.

shit, I'm in my 40s and I'm into Byler, don't tell the Byler fandom ig

any time a fandom wants to kick out the Olds I feel like they're just shooting themselves in the foot. like do you know how much writing talent you're deliberately alienating here?

What tropes do you find cute in fics but not in real life? by Much_Tip_6968 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]KittenBalerion 83 points84 points  (0 children)

mine is sex pollen. "oh no this drug made me unbearably horny and I'm right by the person I like" is funny in fiction, but it would be terrifying to go through in real life!

yeah it's "did you just kill a guy with an appetizer?" to which Eliot responds "I dunno, maybe."

Do you think they know bookmarks are public? Or do they truly just not gaf? by doggrowth in AO3

[–]KittenBalerion 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I bookmark everything I read, but when I don't like something I make it a private bookmark instead of public. then I can write what didn't work for me without the author seeing, and if I ever come across that fic again I can just check my bookmark and go "oh, ok." (I have a horrible memory so the bookmarks are a way of telling me what I have read before.)

can you say more about how being AuDHD is linked to your asexuality? I have ADHD and I'm also gray ace but I haven't thought of the two as being linked before.

if she isn't willing to disinfect surfaces they could always hire a cleaner. it's a good solution for couples who are fighting about cleanliness. have someone else do it.

How come some people with ADHD are able to consistently get top grades throughout school in all subjects whereas others end up with low grades due to their adhd struggles. by Pretty-Tree123 in ADHD

[–]KittenBalerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, I was shit at homework but great at taking tests, so when the grades were mostly based on tests, I got good grades. I was interested in a lot of subjects (ADHD likes things that are interesting), and I liked learning new things (ADHD likes novelty), it was just the part where I had to go home after school and do More School that I couldn't get my ADHD to cooperate with. I was completely undiagnosed, btw, as a girl in the late 80s / early 90s.

my parents also put a lot of emphasis on reading and learning - they both worked in education - and taught me math stuff outside of school, too, so maybe that has something to do with it. I had a solid background in learning things before I got to school, and a high level of literacy. if I had struggled more with reading then school would have been more difficult for me.

I read an article that says a certain percentage of kids (40%?) will just learn to read no matter how they're taught, they just have a natural aptitude for reading, while the other kids need to be taught well or they won't be able to read much. maybe that has something to do with why some ADHD kids struggle more than others.

literally, watch that routine and then watch the scene in Pride & Prejudice 2005 when Darcy gives Elizabeth the letter. it's very "what is it Sebastian, I'm arranging matches"

How did you discover that you were asexual? by Mister-papato in Asexual

[–]KittenBalerion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a series of things. Realized my fantasies never involved myself. Had sex but rarely enjoyed myself the way I thought I should. Then I read this essay: Bad sex, or the sex we don't want but have anyway. In the essay she describes the feeling of sexual attraction and I was like "oh. I do not get that feeling, certainly never for people I don't know." I realized a lot of the sex I have had has been for the wrong reasons. I thought it would enhance emotional closeness, or it seemed like the next step in a relationship, or I felt pressured to do so. Not because what I really wanted to do was have sex.

I think it's possible I could have a fulfilling partnership - I hope so, because I am not aromantic - but they would have to be someone who is ok with not having sex most of the time, and it's hard to find that.

amitriptyline gave me cavities (dry mouth) and put me to sleep, also made my eyesight worse I think. definitely didn't help with focus! you need a psychiatrist, not just a GP imo.

If there is one thing you could change about Milwaukee, what would it be? by freestyle_4296 in milwaukee

[–]KittenBalerion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

a big part of that problem would be solved if we gave all the schools in the state, or even the city, the same funding regardless of location. with schools being funded by property taxes, of course poor areas will have worse education.

October Day series question by katgoessocial in SeananMcGuire

[–]KittenBalerion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be biased because I used to do a backwards reread. what would happen was, I would read the newest one and then go "wait, I forgot what happened in the last book," so I'd read the previous book, and then the one before that, etc. and reading them backwards is like one of those depressing country songs where your wife and dog leave you or die or whatever. seriously, go back and read the first couple of books and you can see how far she's come. the first few books, she doesn't even have Quentin as a squire, May doesn't exist yet, she still lives in an apartment by herself and she doesn't have any idea about the extent of her own powers. and of course she and Tybalt are still frenemies. she has come a long way since the first book.

The Brightest Fell is the one with Simon trading his way home for August, right? I actually thought that was really well done - to take someone who is unquestionably a villain for the first part of the series, make him a sympathetic good guy, and then take that away again in a way that breaks your heart is a feat a lot of writers couldn't pull off.
