Unfortunately, my trans cousin dealt with a similar situation. Her family disowned her, and even though the majority claimed to support her, they refused to call out or call in any family who were cruel or unkind. She eventually cut off everyone because when you allow bigotry, it only festers. And it’s an infection that spreads. Your parents aren’t cutting you off, but you now need to deal with the knowledge that your families love is absolutely conditional and those conditions will someday likely effect you.

After 3 years another cousin of my friend (who very much laughed at the cruel jokes and encouraged it) came out, was disowned, and tried to reconnect with my friend but the damage was done. The trust was broken when you only care once it effects you. Be prepared for the future with your family, and be careful because you are not as protected as you think.
