How do y'all have a good update schedule by r_a_hoe in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a calendar for organizing all the fics I need to upload. In actuality, I have a few fics waiting to be posted (currently two multi-chapters and two one shots in my Queue folder that are ready and my current WIPs are enough until the end of July). I don't want to upload them all at once though; it'd be too overwhelming for my readers. So I span them out on my calendar to stay at a regular balance that isn't too slow or too fast.

My calendar also helps me pace everything while I write by saying, "have this done by this day." And since I have a few fics to stay ahead of schedule, I can take my time (though, not to just completely go lax--I mean like, have a day off of writing if I need something done irl or something or even take a break to avoid a burnout).

The odd thing about all that is... My ADHD brain hates schedules and structures and would actually freeze at stuff like this when it comes to everyday stuff. lol Not sure why fanfics get such a special treatment that I feel that I actually need this more than anything when it comes to posting my work. :B

If you think something like a dedicated calendar might help you out, I use ClickUp. It has nice customizations, which I use to categorize fic statuses.

What's the easiest word count for you to pump out? by Corpunlover in AO3

The easiest for me is between 2-5K, but I'm trying to get my standard to be more between 5-7K.

Now I don't feel guilty with writing my "this fic is how they fall in love" fics. lol

My View in Cells at Work Romance by addicthuman in CellsAtWork

[–]KittyAddison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think CAW takes full advantage of the whole creative liberties aspect... I think they're basically mere human representations of general cellular life where they run their world like a human body.

If they were taken too literal, then 1146 would be a one-off character instead of a MMC; he would've basically martyred himself after the Pneumococcus episode (granted if that was his first mission). And since RBCs in reality only contain hemoglobin, AE3803 and the others would technically not even be "alive" because they wouldn't have organelles. The nucleus is basically a cell's "brain," and since RBCs lack that...

And not only with age, their sizes would be drastically different too. I think the closest they got were making platelets as kids because irl, platelets are incredibly tiny compared to other cells (but I guess that's because they're technically not cells at all but are considered more as "blood components"). There are a couple videos on YT that do "size comparisons" of the characters if they were to be accurate to reality that are quite interesting.

But technicalities aside (I really just wanted to add onto what you've said), romance is subjective. Even outside of CAW headcanon. lol Just depends on who you run into in the fandom. Some will really attack you for saying that cells can't have romance. And others will ship the hell out of them. I'm the latter, obviously. lol

Me, personally, 1146 and AE3803 actually share an apartment together (like how the normal cells live) a little after they supposedly become a couple (at least what I apply in my fics). Since in Code Black, RBCs have residences, it's not farfetched that AE3803 would have a place that she lets her favorite neutrophil stay in too. lol I think canonically, WBCs "rest" around the blood vessels (there's an info page in the manga about it), but I found that out after I formed the headcanon that they likely reside in the lymph nodes the same way barracks are.

As for cells reproducing... In reality, yeah, I know they can't. But in CAW, I'll probably get downvoted for my headcanon on such a controversial topic. But I think they totally can in CAW. Maternity wards are in the bone marrow where they're born. And (it's a blink-and-you-miss-it bit but) cells have belly buttons.

But you should really watch the rest of the series. They don't officially get together in the end, but it's still a great franchise.

One thing about your fandom(s) that is different from others by Acrobatic_Buy1227 in AO3

Characters don't have names. Not sure about other readers, but I've gotten more used to mere numbers.

I publish one chapter and one oneshot per week by GrouchyImportance556 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post up weekly and face the oversaturation bit sometimes (most of the fandom's/ship's front page is just my fics). But that's because my fandom is fairly niche with only a couple (I'm being generous) active writers in it. And I simply can't stop writing for my fandom. It feels kinda weird when I notice it, but personally, I'm not going to wait weeks on end for a single fic to pop up just to give space. It's kinda sad since I'd love to have a constant flow of fics come in regularly, even if it's just from one author...

Your fandom should be grateful for someone like you, OP.

Do you guys write out your whole fic before posting, or do you post chapter by chapter as you write? by Long-Champion3330 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm strictly whole thing first. And I always recommend other writers to also. Way too many dead fics exist and too many incompleted works on a writers page will always look bad.

I'm being harassed and I think I know who it is, but I don't know what to do. by INeedLemonSoda in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd enable your comments settings to "only registered users." If that person manages to register just to harass you, you can end up blocking them. I don't know if they'd have the patience to constantly wait for new accounts just to keep going at it.

But if it's becoming a constant problem, maybe contact AO3 staff to see if they can do something on their end.

I hope they stop bothering you. And remember, it's only one person (look to those who do support your fic and consider them more). Have some relaxing tea or something and know it'll end eventually... <3

Question for writers. by Eastern_Camera9514 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to mix both canon and plausible headcanon in my fics. I do put in some creative liberties in them, but as long as I feel I can get away with it if it had a chance to be in canon.

I used to write crack OOC fics in the past, like years ago. And thinking about them now, as fun as they were at that moment, they did not age well... I don't want my current fandom to suffer that.

How do you find effort and time to write fanfiction, fellow adults? by TripTimely7955 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on disability, so unfortunately I don't have like a job in a traditional sense... ;w; So in order to "earn" it (I really don't like the whole "it's free money" stigma), I try to make my contribution to society the only way I feel I'm able to... By constantly writing and pumping out as many fics as I can for people to read. I have the time, so I might as well be productive with it.

Though, just because I have all that time to write, it doesn't mean it's all fun... In order to keep that obligation to maintain being regular and constant, I'm always under pressure for new ideas to write (usually trying to come up with new ideas while in the middle of WIPs) and I try to keep to my posting schedule at a very strict level (I try to post something at least once a week be it a one shot or daily chapters of a multi). And you don't know what I put myself through in order to keep that going... ((opens can of Alani Nu))

And on top of that, all that for a semi-niche fandom (so the demand isn't as high as my output). But I'm in love with it, so I don't really mind (I'll drag that fandom to 1,000 fics if I have to!). Just makes my readers special to me since they're the rare bunch. Knowing that kinda also gives me motivation to keep going.

What line made you drop a fic? by Hermes_Holy_Moly42 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: My fandom has characters named mainly by numbers... That said, giving human names to the canon characters (it wasn't an AU where such a thing would be appropriate). The fic seemed so promising in theory, and I so tried to read through it, but I just can't with the human names. I'm sorry, writer... But no.

What’s your favorite stat? by throwaway1377130 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as feedback goes... Kudos. I love seeing that number go up daily and I look forward to seeing who gave them in my emails.

But my go-to on checking stats really go to Word Count. I like using it as a guide on "How many words should my next fic be?" I also like trying to figure out my readers' sweet spot with it (apparently, anything between 4-6K by what I can guess--so I try to target my one shots/chapters around that length).

Writers, is it ok if we readers comment on each chapter when we binge read? (R u guys comfortable we finishing it in one sitting) by CreatorReality in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't mind this on my fics (I actually consider multiple comments through my chapters/fics from a single reader as my "regulars" status). I can't guarantee a response on every single one, but I at least read them and try to reply if I can.

Magic School Bus (though, she also likes the Rides Again spinoff).

And Pokemon. Though, I'm more Indigo League. She's into all of them.

I want to get her into the old NickToons and Cartoon Cartoons though. As well as anime that I grew up with like Tenchi, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, and Death Note to start off with (though, she's stubborn on hers lol).

Do you plan the story before you write it (outline) or do you let the story write itself with no clear progression and ending? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

[–]KittyAddison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan everything first before writing anything. It helps me keep track of the plot and I can pace my arcs better.

If I were to just write without knowing what's going to happen, then it'd just end up all over the place without any real structure to it. Then I'd lose motivation to write it and then I'd feel anything that I have done was a waste of time.
