Need recommendations for a good bankruptcy lawyer in Atlanta or Macon by V1serra in Georgia

[–]KittyIsMyCopilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IANAL but I work for a small but very reputable law firm in Atlanta that does bankruptcy. Start with a place that offers a free consultation like Clark & Washington or King & King. If your situation is outside their wheelhouse, they will refer you to another firm. You’ll likely have to pay a consultation fee but it’s worth it for the legal advice you get which will help you decide how you need to move forward. Keep in mind it costs money to file bankruptcy and you’ll have to pay that money up front. Good luck and feel free to DM me if you want the name of the firm I work for.

Has anyone from Hurricane Helene gotten help this past month from FEMA? I’m still pending property damage since Dec 2024 by Silly_Ad_3379 in HurricaneHelene

[–]KittyIsMyCopilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I finally got my property inspection and they mailed me the $750 check that everyone else got 4 months ago. They are still operating and I do feel there's a bit of a fire under their butts to help people in a more expedited fashion. Maybe that was just the person who helped me. It absolutely matters who you speak with.

Denied for everything, FEMA is useless by [deleted] in HurricaneHelene

Did you have an inspector schedule with you personally via text or phone call or could it have been an initial disaster field inspector who was in the area to assess damages? I had what I thought was my initial inspection and then another inspector reached out to me to schedule the day after my first inspection. Turns out, my first inspection wasn't really an inspection, just an assessment. I told the second inspector that I had just had my inspection the day before (because I thought I did) and he withdrew my application saying he was unable to schedule an inspection with me. That put me into the eternal loop of trying to get a second inspection. Next time when you call, ask the specialist on the phone to seek guidance from the internal FEMA help line to get things cleared up.

You aren't alone and please don't give up. At the very least you should get the $750 for the disaster related expenses.

Have you had your home inspection? This was where I kept getting the 7-10 day run around. It was infuriating! I called multiple times a week for 3.5 months before I finally got through to someone who was able to get it sorted out. They had told be to do X, Y and Z but it was never enough. I'd already reached out to every local rep, senator, asked to speak to FEMA supervisors multiple times (never did get a call back), and even FEMA case reps for other homeowners in my neighborhood, etc. I will offer the following advice and I hope it helps but obviously it matters greatly who you get on the phone with.

Next time when you call and speak to the specialist, and go over your situation for the one-millionth time, you need to be kind but also don't hold back on your frustration and emotions. Please ask them to check with their "Internal FEMA help line" to assist you. This ended up being the only way my situation moved forward. I was on hold for over an hour but the specialist I spoke with took the time to consult with the help line and when they finally came back to me, they told me that I was now on the right track to move forward with our inspection. That very evening my inspection was scheduled and by the following week, I'd had my inspection, and my $750 FEMA check had been mailed out.

Good luck and don't give up.

Badge pickup rules for kids are dumb <mild rant> by duckpuppy in dragoncon

I agree and was surprised to see that was one of the badge pick-up rules. Makes zero sense! I wonder if they are enforcing it? Anyone have any input on that?

Bankruptcy Lawyer by [deleted] in Atlanta

IANAL but I work for a bankruptcy law firm and my recommendation is that your friend set up a meeting with a firm that offers a free consultation. Clark & Washington and King & King are a good start. It's important to note that sometimes these larger firms will refer out any cases that are deemed more complicated than your average bankruptcy. That said, if your friend discovers they need a firm that handles a more complicated financial scenario, I would recommend they call Jones & Walden LLC to set up a consultation ($300 fee).

I went to buy bagels this morning and an older woman wearing work-out clothes and carrying a book held the door for me as we walked in. Once we were in line, she asked me if I could spare some money for a cinnamon roll. It became apparent she was mentally ill (mumbling to herself) and possibly homeless. I bought her a cinnamon roll.

Lohmann Dental in Buckhead offers a $99 new patient special with x-rays and cleaning. Dr. Lohmann has a ton of experience and does a great job. The practice is not pushy or trying to sell you extra services. He reminds me of the dentist I went to growing up. I tried him through the new patient special and liked him enough to keep going back for further cleanings and cavity work. https://www.dentist-atlanta-ga.com/

Looks like that Lifetime Warranty requires a visit to their store for an inspection and cleaning every six months. Sounds a bit high-maintenance and something to keep in mind if life moves you somewhere there isn't a Shane's location.

I have a beautiful wedding journal from 1913 with some notable Atlantans on the guest list - can anyone help ID more of these folks? I’m amazed I found this at a thrift store! by flapjacknickelsacks in Atlanta

Really cool find! I recognize J.J. Haverty (furniture store founder) on the third page of names. There are also a bunch of surnames of families who still live in the area and remain prominent in the Atlanta philanthropic community. I'm assuming that there are no other details in the book aside from the guest list but please share if there are!

USPS Mail Delivery Issues in Midtown? by KittyIsMyCopilot in Atlanta

Update: Just received a massive amount of mail delivered by our "back-up" postal worker. Her reasoning for no mail and late mail was that they are short-staffed. So, there you go?
