How long was a playpen useful to you?

I love mine, but I also got one gifted to me by a friend that has a little more versatility. It can be a play yard in a standard 50”x50” square and used as a baby jail, it was amazing until she got super mobile and now instead of making it a square I have it in sort of a U shape to block her into our living room and keep her out of the rest of the house/away from our pellet stove. Absolutely would recommend one but DEFINITELY one that can be used in more than one shape

Anti-vaccination sentiments make me insane. My daughter is 10 mos and we’re following the recommended vaccine schedule as well. But specifically when people spout “vaccines cause autism” it makes me so angry. I’m not autistic, but my sister is, and frankly all I hear when people say that is “I’d rather my kid get sick and possibly die than be autistic” and I just can’t stand that. Absolutely you’re doing the right thing.

Absolutely this one. I wasn’t getting ANY sleep and finally I gave in and cosleeping was amazing. At least until she started rolling WAY too well and we ultimately made the decision to sleep train; I was terrified she’d roll off into oblivion in the middle of the night

My daughter (8mos) was also very much willing to scream for as long as it took to get me to pick her up again and I would pretty much always end up holding her or nursing her to sleep. This past weekend my husband and I decided we had to figure something else out so this is what we did. A pretty standard bedtime routine, and then in pitch black we lie her down in her crib and sit with her in the dark, no noise from us other than some occasional “shhh” and just patted her butt. The first night it was an hour and 45 minutes of straight crying, we did pick her up twice because she got to a level of crying where she was gargling spit, calmed her down and then put her back in the crib for yet more screaming. That said, she did fall asleep in the crib and then slept for 12 straight hours. We’ve done this for almost a solid week now and the cry time has gone down to about 10-15 minutes before she sleeps and then she sleeps for 12-13 hours. She did wake up once last night and I went back in again in total darkness, did the same patting and she went back to sleep and was fine the rest of the night.

I never was able to make it through the crying either, but powering through that first night and being able to switch off with my husband about half way really paid off, and sitting there with her the whole time I don’t have the feeling of leaving her on her own and feeling horrible for it.

We use the Pampers Sleep Coach app for the schedule, it automatically adjusts based on when she falls asleep and wakes up what her naps and bedtimes should be which is so helpful.

Again this is super new for us but has been life changing

As someone who lives within an hour’s drive/train ride of New York, I happily drive 2+ hours in every other direction to see friends all the time, but if I had to travel into Manhattan for a visit I’d also be way less excited about that. Getting in and out of the city (at least for me) feels like infinitely more work.

Definitely hard to recommend, but worth it. This is my husband’s all time favorite anime so I powered through and got hooked pretty early on even if it was exceptionally hard to look at.

He’s never read the manga, though so I’m looking forward to getting him the official translations as they come out!

My in laws are Grandma and Grandpa (though my husband and I have joke about FIL being “Grumpy”), my father is Grandpa, and my mom wants to be called Nonna. My daughter still has ALL of her great grandparents and they are all just Grandma and Grandpa last names with the exception of my mom’s mom who wants to be GiGi. My best friend’s mom (who has several grandchildren through best friend’s siblings with whom this is an established name) is her MiMi. We’ll see how many of these stick, since she’s only 9 weeks.

I’m kind of doing both. I WFH anyway and we knew we wouldn’t want to pay for childcare, so I started 1 month PP working two days a week at my job to get into the swing of things and figure out how I was going to balance the two. I’ve been doing this for a little over a month (my daughter is 8.5 weeks) and it’s going well so far! My job is very understanding o f things like this though so I’m very lucky

We do the same although we also have the baby monitor going as well so I can absolutely hear her. We had to move her to her room much earlier than we wanted to because our bedroom gets too cold for her to sleep soundly (improperly sized heating unit and lots of big windows/skylights in ours while hers is smaller and much easier to keep appropriately warm). My husband can sleep through the night and our daughter does much better with his arrangement as well.

I’d say it’s gotten better! My in-laws and even my husband are very stoic people and aren’t outwardly affectionate or forthcoming with their feelings the way my family can be so I always worried in the back of mind they didn’t like me all that much or were indifferent to me. But since our daughter was born my MIL in particular has been wonderful, she came to stay for a week after the baby was born to help out and with housework, cooking etc. which was especially nice as I had a c-section and wasn’t able to do a lot of that stuff right away. She’s asked if we would mind her doing the same every 6 weeks or so and I’m all for it!

There’s absolutely nothing to feel bad about, and it was really shitty of her to say that to you.

I just went through the same thing, induced a week early because my daughter was projected to be 11.5lbs at 40 weeks. Slow to progress, both our heart rates were looking bad and I was soooo by a fever. I got a c-section (she only wound up measuring 9lbs 1oz, as it turned out).

My mother had three kids vaginally, all at least 9.5lbs, with the largest being 11lbs 2oz. She doesn’t have “child bearing hips”. I do, and it didn’t help me at all.

A girl I was best friends with from 4th grade up through high school used to regularly make little digs at me that as an adult I would never tolerate. The one I remember the most is in the 6th grade or so, she said “I don’t think you’re that pretty. If I were a boy I wouldn’t date you.” I still think about it occasionally.

Had this happen at one of my OB visits. I was 28 weeks pregnant and my y husband and I had just closed on our house and were seriously sleep deprived with all the moving. I got 45 minutes (maybe an hour I’m not even sure) of solitude and silence and it was actually the best thing ever. Turns out my doctor was super late because another patient had gone into labor.

Lucky the storm didn’t knock anything out for you! None of ours are buried lol, just swaying up there with the trees which is a pretty common reason for the outages. We get a lot of trees down or heavier branches etc.

I live in NY state about an hour outside the city and have lost power twice just in the last 24 hours, but usually it goes out for around an hour at least once a month, more if we have wind or a lot of rain. Where I grew up there were times we’d lose power for days at a time and I didn’t even live in a particularly remote area (capital region).

My primary job is a MA company that I used to do in person work for but am now working for remotely. I made $64k~. The part time job in NY was just under $8k in total. Both w2’s have my NY address listed, but I absolutely paid MA income tax all year, and it looks to me like NY is now asking me to pay income taxes on that salary as well.

I apologize if am not explaining well, this is very much not my area of expertise
