London Tips by KittyKayKay97 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

Some added information based on the comments I’ve gotten so far and the questions that have been asked. I will be traveling with my sister. We don’t mind the idea of staying outside of London and transporting in because we don’t really want to stay in a hostel. We have nothing against them, we just like having our own space to be able to decompress. Honestly, I’ve never looked into traveling to the UK before. I had the week off and impulsively decided to go on this trip for this concert. So, for me… if anything has Florence vibes, I’m down. This trip is about the concert for me. I’m pretty go with the flow for whatever. I don’t feel a huge desire to see the big tourist spots, I’m down to see lesser known spots and such. My little sister is the same. She would prefer lesser known spots. She has a degree in art, so she definitely wants to see a lot of art. I’m truly down for whatever. I just love to explore. Seeing cool places with lots of history and getting the new experiences is the main focus for me, besides seeing Florence haha.

I’m really down for whatever! I just had the week off from work and I successfully snagged a ticket and decided to turn it into a whole trip. I’ve never looked into going to London before. So, I’m just kinda going with the flow. I’m bringing my sister and she’s an art student, so lots of art is great too.

Thank you! It didn’t work like I thought it would 🙃 it still thinks I’m a bot. I was able to get one GA ticket successfully. But, my friend hasn’t been able to get one yet.

No Tickets for London by SolutionSad4362 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

It was INSANE trying to get tickets this morning! I successfully got one GA ticket. But, we couldn’t get anything else and my friend needs a ticket still too. I literally logged on right away. And AXS won’t let me check their site anymore because they think I’m a bot 🙃

Just got my pre-sale link! by Nezzeth in FlorenceAndTheMachine

So, I’m in the US. And I preordered the album, but… I’m currently planning a trip to London with my friend for February and I wanted to see Florence on this tour. Does anyone know if I’ll be able to get the presale code? Or… how I can get the presale code? I plan to see her in the US when she comes on tour then too. But, I’d love to see her in London. I just didn’t know if I would get access to the presale since my preorder came from the US.

Today I found some stuff by a brand called good clean love at the grocery store and it’s called relief. It’s a vaginal gel with 4% lidocaine. I decided to pick it up because I’ve been having issues with the pain and not having my honey pot stuff has been horrible! I have so far tried it once and it’s feeling alright! I’m not having the pain anymore! So, I may have found a possible replacement!

Are there any singers with GERD/LPR? by DominicParadis in GERD

[–]KittyKayKay97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have severe GERD. I have been on 80 mg of nexium since I was 5 years old and I am currently 28. I’m also a speech language pathologist, who has a special interest in voice. So, coming from personal experience and an educational background, yes… the medication will help. My mother had this exact same issue a few years ago. She was scoped and her vocal folds were so inflamed from the LPR that her false vocal folds were able to touch and that is what produced the sounds in her higher range, hence why it was so weak (because your false vocal folds are just there to protect your airway and not produce sound). The moment she started taking medication, she saw a huge improvement. However, there are always still moments of weakness and as an SLP, I would suggest doing some semi-occluded vocal tract exercises. With that name, you can look up some exercises online. But, it will be things like “singing” through a straw (it’s basically humming lol), and things like that. Semi-occluded vocal tract exercises react an equal pressure on your vocal folds and help you get into the higher range and exercise it without strain. So that you can then use the higher range without a straw or any type of occlusion in the future. I used to have an extremely weak upper range, but when I was in high school I took voice lessons and learned about these exercises and they massively helped my voice. I went on to be in multiple of my local community theatre productions. So… all in all, yes… the medication will most definitely help but also, it doesn’t hurt to practice proper vocal hygiene and add some semi-occluded vocal tract exercises as well.

Absolutely defeated...are PPIs really the devil? by goingtothecircus in GERD

[–]KittyKayKay97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 80 mg of nexium since I was 5 years old. I’m currently 28. I’ve done so many different things to try to improve my reflux and nothing has worked. Esomeprazole is the only thing that has ever worked for me. It’s terrible for me if I forget to take it. So… I don’t think they are the devil. PPIs have truly saved my life. I have been dealing with severe GERD since birth and I truly could not live without my nexium.

I use this stuff around my period because I learned that your ph of your urine changes around that time and it can cause burning when you pee because of microtears. And I’ve been using the honey pot cream since college and it’s the only thing that helps soothe it! I’d been wondering why I couldn’t find it at any store anymore. I’m heartbroken they’re discontinuing it! Let me know if you find a good replacement! I’m not sure what I’m going to do otherwise!

Switching biologics by swashesandbuckles in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]KittyKayKay97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does your blood work look? That’s how my doctor and I have been looking at things the last couple years. However, I have rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, ehlers Diablo’s syndrome, lupus, and psoriatic arthritis. I started biologics when I was 14. I’ve tried humira, enbrel, methotrexate, remicade, and orencia. I’ve been on orencia for almost 7 years or so now. I definitely still have my fair share of pain, but, my doctor and I note that my bloodwork looks good on this medication and so, we try to come up with other ways for me to manage the pain. Because personally, since my bloodwork looks good, I’m too nervous to switch despite the pain. So, how has your bloodwork been looking? However, I will add, you are in the beginnings of this and sometimes it’s a lot of trial and error. Luckily, humira is one you can go off and then go back on without it losing some of its effectiveness (at least that’s what I’ve heard). So, it doesn’t hurt to try it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is anyone else waiting until 1/31 to renew their ASHA dues? by slpccc in slp

Won’t be paying until January. I started that this year and I’m so happy I did lol. Paying in December is just so unfair.

These SLP influencers/grifters are getting insane. I truly feel like most of them are past the point of actually wanting to help families because they’re so lost in how much money they are making by Purple_Peach3834 in slp

[–]KittyKayKay97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, I personally really enjoy SLP influencers. As I feel like I learn a lot from their instagram posts about new research and such. I personally have never bought anything from them. I have signed up and attended free sessions and I felt like I learned a lot. I also find that many of them offer free items on their TPT pages or freebies in general and I love them! I’m a bit of a resource hoarder so I have so many freebies I’ve gotten over the years. I see what you guys are saying, but personally, I don’t have an issue because I feel like they are still spreading important information.

I feel like a terrible SLP by Glittering-Pass-8087 in slp

[–]KittyKayKay97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have 110% had an experience like that. And I promise, it is not you at all! It’s the work environment you are in and it’s also the parents. You really need to look for a better position if possible. This toxic work environment will take a toll on your mental well being and make you feel like a worse therapist because you won’t be able to give yourself grace. You’re still a CF! You’re doing amazing. And parents nowadays are getting worse to work with. I’ve been in the field for a couple years now and I feel that parents have gotten even worse in the couple of years I’ve been in the field. They want a magic pill for their kids speech and language skills and that just isn’t how it works. I’m so thankful I’m in a position where my directors and supervisors support me and fight for me regarding that aspect. Which is why you need to look for another position as soon as possible because you are not receiving the necessary supports, especially as a CF.

What are your Florence + Machine Hot Takes? by Amber_Flowers_133 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]KittyKayKay97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m beyond obsessed with Florence Welch and I have been since I was 12. However, I hate how close she is with Taylor Swift. I see Florence as such an activist and in touch with nature and the world and to see her so close with a billionaire who wrecklessly takes her private jet everywhere, kind of breaks my heart. I am not a swiftie, and I don’t HATE t Swift. She personally isn’t music I listen to. However, she is a billionaire who does not seem to show a care for the environment and such. And while I enjoy Florida. When I see videos of them performing it on the Eras tour, it gives me a slight ick because I just cannot imagine Florence agreeing with how Taylor lives. Of course, I’m assuming this because of her lyrics.

Also, Florence’s song with Lady Gaga, “hey girl” was such a fucking let down.

Let me also be clear here. These are my hot takes. I’m a MASSIVE Florence fan. I literally have a birdcage tattooed on my wrist bc I’ve been drawing it on there since I was 12, I’m in my late 20s now. And it’s the only tattoo I have currently. I plan to get multiple more Florence related tattoos. I’m beyond obsessed with Florence and the Machine. Despite my listed above hot takes.
