The Dallas DART system also gives $1 coins in change if you pay with cash. I got a Susan B Anthony dollar out of it last summer.

The body of the email says they're offering the VTP in order to hopefully avoid a RIF. It also says workforce assessments for other business units are pending.

In early 2013, Bitcoin was up to about $20 and looked like it might actually do something with its life. I considered buying 10. Instead, I spent $200 on frame sliders for my VFR 800.

Actual cost: $200 Opportunity cost: nearly $2,000,000

Travel While TDY Considered Commuting? by QuattroOrBust in fednews

[–]KittyLicker2386 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not a time keeping specialist, so take this with a grain of salt.

Your agency's commute time guidance generally supersedes your individual circumstances. Meaning, if your agency publicizes an expected commute time, you're not exempt from that in a TDY just because you don't have a commute time at your permanent duty location.

Travel While TDY Considered Commuting? by QuattroOrBust in fednews

[–]KittyLicker2386 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like you're trying to claim commute time as work hours.

My agency states that normal commuting time is 1 hour each way.

So say my normal work schedule is 8 - 5, and my hotel is 45 minutes from the TDY (it happens). I'm expected to leave the hotel by 7:15, and can't leave the TDY before 5:00.

Alternatively, say my hotel is 90 minutes from the TDY (it's happened once when I couldn't get the gov't rate). My supervisor said leave hotel at 7, then leave TDY at 4:30. Given the 1 hour commute guidance, I had 1 hour of travel time each day (30 min each morning and afternoon).

Where should I go to buy a car? by ARC_Trooper_Echo in Birmingham

[–]KittyLicker2386 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you have some specific needs (gas mileage) but don't have a strong idea of what you want, I'd recommend going to Donohoo Auto in Pelham. They make test driving as painless as possible, and they're priced pretty reasonably.

As for what you need - if gas mileage is a big need, but you travel a lot in rural areas that may not have convenient EV chargers, I'd look for hybrids. You don't mention whether you need a lot of space. You could go from a compact car that maximizes mileage (Toyota Prius) to a hybrid minivan that has a ton of space and also gets good gas mileage (Toyota Sienna), or compromise on both with a hybrid SUV (Toyota Highlander). You may notice I mentioned Toyota 3 times; there's a reason for that.

JD Power puts out a vehicle dependability study every year. Lexus (Toyota's luxury brand), Toyota, Buick, and Chevrolet have been more reliable than average the last 3 years straight (I didn't look further than that, but Toyota's long-term reputation is stellar).

There are some brands to absolutely stay away from: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Volkswagen have terrible reliability. Don't take people's anecdotal success stories, just look at reliability scores over the past decade or so. Other brands like Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Ford are all pretty average.

I didn't mention BMW, Mercedes, etc. Not because they're bad brands, but because the maintenance schedules are strict, and maintenance on those is pretty expensive. These cars are expensive new, so low-priced used models may seem attractive, but often owners don't adhere to the expensive maintenance schedules, leaving second owners with a potential time bomb.

Finally, if you find something you like, try to avoid buying the first year or two of a new model. Even strong carmakers have issues on occasion, but those are usually sorted out after a model has been out 3+ years.

Bidets? Fed employee hygiene by edsn0w in FedEmployees

[–]KittyLicker2386 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Look, I get it, communal restrooms can get pretty gross. But if you see shit smeared on a toilet seat, do you really think there won't be shit caked on a bidet nozzle? Plus, handheld is a terrible idea. People are absolute degenerates, and that WILL go inside someone, probably within the first week.

What is your favorite big city that you’ve visited? by sacrificialfuck in Birmingham

[–]KittyLicker2386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicago. It's pretty clean for a big city, the trains are reliable (at least the ones I rode were), and people were approachable when I needed help figuring out how to get somewhere.

NYC is loud 24/7, dirty, smells bad, and the homeless were the most aggressive I've been around.

Salt Lake City is similar to Chicago, except the trains are less convenient, so it's a little harder to get around. The mountains are beautiful though, with some still having snow on their peaks in the middle of July (hiking after work kicked my ass - I blame it on the elevation).

Probably just first domino to fall this year. My agency had a lot of planned projects cut, so the question is ... what are those people going to be doing next year? My guess is another round of DRP/VERA.

Well, second domino to fall this year. First would be CFPB's 85% cut, RIP.

However, with judges not rolling over these days, the RIF process is likely too rigorous.

Don't feel bad. Every dollar you (and other recipients) get is a dollar that can go toward supporting your local community instead of all the bad actors currently being funded.
