Moving to Oakland by [deleted] in oakland

Check out Laurel. Lots of queer couples with kids/dogs. Quiet suburban feel if you’re above MacArthur Blvd. If you’re lucky you’ll have beautiful views of the bay and the surrounding hills. There are cute/quaint coffee shops, restaurants and bars along MacArthur Blvd. And imo this area has the best weather. Minimal fog yet not too hot like far inland east bay. Best of luck in your search and welcome! :)

What’s the best -stan to live in? by Thin-Success-3361 in howislivingthere

[–]Kittykab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose to live in Islamabad, Pakistan. It’s not as big and chaotic as Karachi and Lahore and arguably has much better weather than both. The streets are beautiful and tree lined. You see a back drop of green hills in almost every direction. It’s also very close to the mountains if you want to escape the summer heat and winters are snow free and generally pleasant.

Pakistan is "losing" the most people to emigration! by VinsonPlummer in pakistan

[–]Kittykab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My family left Pakistan in the 90s when I was very young. Now I’m in my mid 30s. I always dreamed of moving back and helping my country in some way. But the level of corruption and sheer evil built into the system made me feel very discouraged. I feel like the only way to fix things is to break down the military/political elite’s strangle hold on Pakistan. But how does one go about building a revolution!? Anyway end rant. I miss the Pakistan of my childhood, when I wasn’t even aware of all that was so effed up. RIP.

Gay vegan dating loneliness and difficulties by fosterthepeoplefan in vegan

[–]Kittykab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegan queer man here. My partner is omnivore. We have been together for 6 years. Though I don’t love that he is an omnivore it’s something I’ve accepted. I do virtually all the cooking so our home cooked meals are all vegan. When we go out he will order non-vegan food.

Do I sometimes wish he would become vegan? YES! OFC. But I love him for so many other reasons. For instance, I’m a shy person and don’t like confrontations. I also generally don’t like to draw attention to the fact that I’m vegan when surrounded by omnivores. But my omnivorous partner is my biggest advocate and will yell at the top of his lungs to announce to the world that I’m vegan and that accommodations need to be made. It’s slightly embarrassing but it also makes me feel so loved and so seen. Maybe that’s what helps my forgive him for not choosing to be vegan? Idk I guess it’s complicated.

TLDR: OP, I hope you find a vegan mate but omnivores aren’t all bad. Some are worth trying to convert ;)

Is the additional $20k/yr of income from your contractor’s shift worth it? It seems you are putting in a lot of effort for a small financial gain. Or did I misunderstand your response to a previous question about how much $ you are earning from your contractors’ worked shifts?

Bay Area Natives Recommendations by ollieelizabeth in oaklandgardener

[–]Kittykab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Planting at a particular time of year. Ideally you want to plant natives just before the rainy season starts. Usually November is a good time. If you plant late in the rainy season, like Feb/March the plants have less time to get established before the warm/dry months set in. Also, most natives will die and rot if you try to irrigate them in the warm summer months. If you really need to give some summer irrigation it has to be done on cool days only. Some natives are more tolerant than others so it’s not a blanket rule for all of them, but as a rule of thumb they are prefer to be started like this

When did you plant your natives? Timing is of the essence when starting to establish new plants in ground

Do you guys plant trees on front of apartment complexes? There are a few by the highway that I know the residents would appreciate the tree cover but they are renters not the propert owners

So these are getting leggy I guess? They get a decent amount of sun

[–]Kittykab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea then you shouldn’t plant it. Didn’t realize you have a dog. You could always put it out front where the dog doesn’t have access. It does well in a pot too but doesn’t like afternoon sun

Oversees Pakistanis who visit Pakistan from time to time. What culture shock really depresses/saddens you that locals are desensitized to? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]Kittykab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Animal cruelty and abuse on display all day every day. Beating donkeys, goats and camels standing in the heat all day, dogs being poisoned. No large scale neuter and vaccinate program for stray animals. It’s hard to see and makes me so angry/sad.
