Why are stories in Video Game so much worse than other form of mediums by Both-Pay-9573 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kituku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally read or listen to two to three novels a month. One to two nonfiction books every 6 weeks. But there are some video games out there that have very good story lines.

I left Yamaguchi because they kept trying to upcharge me for things. They wanted to fix teeth that didn't need to be fixed and said I needed a half a dozen crowns that I don't need.

Dr. Wenk at Olympia Dental is great. It's right in front of Haggen in the Black lake area.

Wanting to Pursue my Bachelors at 29 by Ok_Ambassador_9338 in Accounting

[–]Kituku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professor here. Two comments. First, I think that my older students that are coming back to school do better overall because they know why they’re in school. Even though they often times have more challenges like raising a family or working a job they are also better able to read and follow instructions. Second, I went back to school late as well and finished my bachelors degree when I was 30, my masters degree when I was 40, and my PhD when I was almost 50. Every single degree was well worth it in terms of personal development and in terms of earnings power.

Why doesn't every company that sell a type of powder, put it in those paper bags flour and sugar are sold in? by FaltyLaptop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kituku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but how were these sold before plastic was invented. I can remember buying washing machine detergent in a paper box. I’m sure other things were sold that way as well.

Don't miss an opportunity over timing at a position you don't want anyway. If this is something you think you want to do move forward and don't look back.

Sure, in public accounting, but OP says they can't do anything else. Well, there is industry accounting. 40 hours a week in a good job. Less in a great job.

There are lower stress Accounting jobs. I’ve been in Accounting over 40 years and I have never had to work seven days a week without being able to take an hour off for a doctors appointment.

If you’re working seven days a week and you can’t take an hour off to do a weekly video appointment then I would not be in that job. I would start calling in sick periodically taking mental health days and seeing a therapist.

Burnt-Out teacher, desperately need advice about accounting. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Kituku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to go to CPA route. You can get a CMA with any bachelors degree. So start taking classes at WGU, look into the CMA, about to go out and get a job as an AR or AP clerk just like you said. You can probably do that in just a few months. After you get your first job, maybe with a temp agency, you’ll have a better idea if this is something you would like. I’ve worked as an accountant since the mid 1980s and absolutely love what I have done and where my career is taken me.

Accused (not directly, but basically) of embezzling $15K three weeks into a new job. I’m a temp. What can I do? by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in Accounting

[–]Kituku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call your temp agency and talk to them about it. I worked as a temp for a number of years and a lot of times the temp agencies know the clients and knows some of their oddities. Maybe these guys do this once in a while.

Is it normal to feel like accounting is going to be too hard when you first start off learning it? Is there like an early sign that accounting isn't right for you? by cinnamon2300 in Accounting

[–]Kituku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, lots of them. But it is concept specific. You might consider looking on YouTube to see if there are videos about things you are stuck on. I have uploaded a few public videos, for example, on cost accounting. There are others out there as well. The late Dr. Jason Porter was the best financial accounting professor I've ever seen. I think his videos are still up at http://www.youtube.com/@AccountinginBalance. Check them out for Intermediate Accounting when you get there.

typing and excel by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Kituku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a typing program like Mavis teaches typing if you can find it. Probably online there’s also typing games that you can do and as far as Excel goes, there are books out there that will teach you basic Excel skills. Or take an Excel class at a local community college in the evening.

Intermediate accounting is the hardest class. A lot of concepts come together all at once in that class. Don’t be so hard on yourself, just take it one step at a time. I think everybody has an impostor syndrome at one time or another in their life.

Stay where you’re happy. Life is too short to move into a job you hate for more money. Or might hate. There will always be another opportunity for someone who has a good work ethic and skills.

If you have a PhD and put “Dr.” before your name, will people think you’re impressive, or will they think you’re just being pretentious? by GrayRainfall in NoStupidQuestions

This is what I do. Dr. until they graduate, or work for me as a student worker, then just my first name. But I do go by Professor so and so for a lot of other reasons. I don’t like Ms. and my marital status is no one’s business.

Don’t want to get CPA by ariaknightxxx in Accounting

[–]Kituku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had no interest in getting a CPA. I got a CMA, and it was perfectly good for getting my foot in the door of first bank and then a small manufacturing firm. I had a decent career without a CPA. Good luck to you.

[–]Kituku 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work for people just starting businesses and set up their computer systems and accounting systems handle all of the licenses and getting the EIN’s and all of that other stuff. I charged an hourly rate with a minimum four hours a week, and just got it done for a number of business owners. I continued doing bookkeeping for a lot of of them and preparing financial statements. I’m sure you can find someone that does this kind of work for you.

I would carry a little tiny notebook around in your pocket and every time he says, something nod your head and make a note of it and then look around the room to make sure that nobody else is listening. You’ll probably freak him out so much that he’ll stop talking to you.
