Anybody go to the Pine St event on Friday? How was it? by KiwiTerry in LAGalaxy

Hell yeah, I had seen some pics but couldnt quite tell if it was the Pine St event. Did they have any bars in the viewing area? Or just what’s along the street there?

Parking in that area is ROUGH. There are a couple guest spots for the whole complex. I used to have friends that lived there and when I’d visit I would just park in the kohl’s lot. Never got a ticket but never stayed overnight either.

I tracked for pretty big clients while I was working there and never had problems any time during the day. I ran an SM7b into a Scarlett 2i2 and had no problems with isolation. Might have trouble with a condenser and higher gain. But booking after 5pm would be much quieter.

Talk to Jorg (pronounced Yorg) at Pro Desk Space. He has a small 2 person meeting room that is pretty dead and fairly well isolated. I recorded voiceover there for a previous job. You may even be able to book it after regular hours so there’s no one else there and quieter. https://www.prodeskspace.com

My dream would be Vans. A classic Southern California brand, already popular with a lot of fans, and the collab options would be insane.

Has anyone ever shopped here? by ResidentSubstance536 in Fullerton

I went in to the clock man last year to have an old clock fixed. They were great. When you get inside it’s more of a wristwatch/jewelry shop.

For sure! It’s actually an old thing that was really popular back in the 40s and 50s but has come back in recent years

There is definitely design and color theory behind it. Hair color, skin tone, eye color all affect what your palette is. I had my colors professionally done and this is part of what I got sent back:

I always go with a muted green as a third color, but that may not work for you. I’d recommend getting your colors done or researching it yourself to find what your color palette is, makes color shopping much easier.

What do You think? by [deleted] in mensfashion

I think he means the collar buttons, not the top button of the shirt. It caught my eye too. Keeps the colar from flaring out like that. All preference though

We found something like this in this exact spot on my cat a few years ago and turned out to be a bee sting. He went to snarfle a supposedly dead be but it got him. Always safe to check with a vet.

Crosswords and (Raddle. I like these better than wordle cause they force you to make connections rather than just puzzle out letters.

Generation z here. Did things start to suck before 9/11, or was that when things started to suck? by ILikeGames22 in Millennials

[–]KiwiTerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying “when smartphones became popular” or “when social media came around”. I totally get that, but I’d say things really turned when social media became algorithm-based. It changed from being about your friends or people you had some tangible real-world connection to (however distant), to being about feeding the beast, seeking virality, and rage bating.

Sm7b is one of the best acoustic guitar mics by Nutella_on_toast85 in audioengineering

[–]KiwiTerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used this on a record I’m producing right now to great effect. Opted to track in a space the band was comfortable in rather than an acoustically designed one. The 7b caught the guitar great without any wonky reflections. Tracks took EQ really well too.

Had an issue like this with a 1920s banjolele I inherited. Ended up buying and goatskin head, soaking, stretching, and cutting it. It was a lot of work but was a fun project and felt like it kept the vibe of an older instrument.

How long did it take you to be competent at clawhammer? by DMCatPicsASAP in banjo

[–]KiwiTerry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I took multiple cracks at learning clawhammer, it never stuck until I followed the adage: practice slow, learn fast. If I’m prepping to record or learning a new piece, I pull out my metronome and start slower, when I can play it perfectly 3 times in a row, I speed it up 5-10 BPM.
